    Things I liked:

Broke in with open sights for approximately 150 shots. Installed scope, sighted, then shot half inch groups immediately.

    Things I would have changed:

Stock. A little less overall weight would be good.

    What others should know:

I am probably going to get a add on cheek pad for the stock.

    Things I liked:

Extremely accurate air rifle. Plenty of power both in .22 and .177. ; Quite an accomplishment. The break in is short and the rifle becomes very easy to cock. The pistol grip is positioned and shaped very well. nice and quick to bring to bear. The scope is very good. 5 stars with ease.

    Things I would have changed:

    Nothing.

    What others should know:

An excellent hunting and field rifle. Consider it if that's what you are looking for. You might save some money and still be plenty happy.

    Things I liked:

Quality built, good overall feel, these are my initial thoughts.. easy to sight-in with a few rounds... but it still varies after a few shots... will update if I find any more useful info to share. Pyramyd Air is great to do business with... very efficient in their updates on shipping, etc.

    Things I would have changed:

First look... VERY heavy... harder to cock than I am used to.. but hopefully will get over it... I would HIGHLY recommend that a new "O" ring be included with the gun... the one that comes with it is 'squashed' and I am sure that makes a difference in sighting the rifle in as well as FPS that it gives....

    What others should know:

Nice feel... and well made... will report back with any updates after I have used it awhile...

    Things I liked:

Overall it's exactly as described. I like heavy guns cause it helps me hold them a bit more steady when shooting.

    Things I would have changed:

I would chance the location of the "Quick-Tips" tag for shipping. This little yellow tag completely flattened out the rubber O-Ring seal at the breach causing a loss of velocity. Also, the trigger leaves alot to be desired; it's was real gritty on my gun and all the screws had to be tightened.

    What others should know:

Factory damaged rubber O-Ring was replaced with one I bought at the hardware store. No schematic or replacement parts drawing included with instructions. As a result, I had to go in and figure it all out myself. Online detailed info is sparse on this gun so, I started my own Yahoo Umarex Octane forum group dedicated to this air rifle. Trigger jobs, power tweaks, custom ammo, etc. with photos. This is a great gun with alot of potential but, it needs to be tweaked inorder to get the most out of it.

    Things I liked:

This rifle is very solidly built. The lockup is perfect with no looseness at all. The stock feels very nice despite the forward balanced weight bias. The cheekpiece is much more comfortable than I expected from pictures. The reaxis piston is super smooth and powerful. This gun is just as smooth, if not smoother, in the shooting cycle than my CFR with the nitro piston or my vantage NP. The rifle is not particularly hold sensitive that I can tell. The power is outstanding. It blows right through 3/4" mdf and keeps on going at 50 yards. It is not any harder to cock than my vantage NP, but makes almost double the energy. Does not feel anywhere near 48 lbs. I shot 500 pellets today with no problems. Of course, I'm a grown man and in good shape, so don't expect your wife or pre-pubescent child to be able to handle this. I suspect the 10 lb. weight once the scope is mounted will be tougher to handle for most than the cocking effort. The shot cycle is so surprisingly smooth, I don't think it will be very tough on scopes. This rifle is unbelievably quiet. Easily the quietest of my 16 airguns, while also the most powerful. It is seriously not any louder than a red-ryder. I can hear the pellet going through the air and the impact is several times louder than the shot cycle or report. I haven't benched the rifle yet, but from a sitting position I can put 10 pellets into under 1/2" at 25 yards. All-in-all, I have to say that I am 95% pleased with this rifle.

    Things I would have changed:

The trigger sucks. While it is pretty crisp and has minimal creep it is also very heavy and gritty. I must have gotten a bad one because my gauge shows over 8 lbs. even after 300 shots fired. I tore down the trigger group (which is a bit of a pain, and the pins will fall right out as soon as you remove the stock) and polished everything and it made very little difference. The grittiness is gone, but the pull weight is still 7 lbs. I will try shimming and going a bit further into the geometry, but this should really be unnecessary in a rifle that is $200 and so well made in other respects. The bundle scope is okay, and I am using it right now with no problems, however it is not as nice as the rifle deserves. I would have bought the rifle without the scope and saved some money. I would then buy an appropriate scope for this hunting-style rifle with better lenses, more magnification, and mil-dots. I guess at least this isn't a throw-away scope like most combos include so it is really a step in the right direction. But seriously, I would rather choose my own scope and be able to buy the rifle for less. I should also point out that the rear sight on my rifle needed to be all the way to the right to get the gun zeroed. Not a big deal for me since I plan on shooting this thing scoped.

    What others should know:

The big picture here is that I think this rifle is a real winner. It shoots very smoothly, seems to be a tack-driver (I will post some bench results once I get it fully broken-in), is super quiet, and not that hard to cock. The only reason I can't give the rifle 5 stars is the awful trigger. My example may have just been an anomaly, as reviews post lower pull weights, but my trigger gauge and my finger don't lie. One last thing....clean the barrel first. It was absolutely full of gummy black goo. And also expect the first shot to go super-sonic from dieseling. My first shot sounded like a hv .22 lr from a 16" barreled rifle.

    Things I liked:

My first 22 cal pellet rifle. Only have a Gamo .177 Silent Cat to compare it to.The Octane blows it away. This thing is powerful and accurate. It's pretty quiet too. The crosman premier domed 14.3 gr seem to be the most accurate. Don't have a Chrony yet.

    Things I would have changed:

Get rid of the plastic shipping tag in the breech. It flattens the breech seal. I replaced that at my cost. The scope was way better than the scope that came on my Gamo, but I still prefer a better scope.

    What others should know:

I replaced the scope with a Leapers 3-12x44 AO SWAT Accushot, and put the Octane's scope on my Gamo. Improved accuracy with both guns by doing so. Love the weaver rail. I can't imagine anyone not being satisfied with this rifle? I highly recommend it. I'm a Umarex fan now!

    Things I liked:

I purchased this gun in .22 cal for the sole purpose of eliminating pests. This gun is heavy, but very manageable. The trigger does take some getting used to and I haven't messed around with adjusting it yet. It has great power and is quiet enough for my subdivision. The scope has held up so far. The only issue I had was sighting it in. I was using crosman premier ultra mags and I couldn't get them to center on target. Although I was getting dime size groups at 30 yards high and to the left. 8 out 10 shots in dime and 2 on the bullseye. I was going nuts. Switched to kodiak heavies and took aim at a staple holding the target and it disappeared. The next 5 shots the small x bullseye was gone with what looked like one single but larger hole. Lesson learned, it likes heavier pellets. 1/2" plywood is nothing I had 2 pieces with a 1" gap in between and some shots went straight though to a tree and others would just imbed into the surface of the second sheet, but within a few shots into a small group a quarter size hole would appear in the second sheet. My dad bought one too in .177 cal. He had same issues with accuracy with lighter pellets. He loves his gun too. My garden is now rabbit free and his raccoons have unfortunately ran for hills when his arrived and has not got a kill yet. It is still fun to get out and shoot. It's well made, great warranty, awesome value for its price, and even better with Pyramyd Air's service and sales specials.

    Things I would have changed:

It could be a lighter, but overall it's a great gun. It is fairly easy to cock and I'm no weight lifter. The butt of the stock is nice but it seems too sticky I guess is the best way to put it. It grabs onto anything you're wearing. Otherwise it is soft and does a great job of absorbing shock, perhaps too good of a job.

    What others should know:

This gun is powerful and is the best bang for your buck. With the right pellets this thing is deadly accurate. In my case it seems umarex's claims of velocity are right on. Lighter pellets just can't handle the speed and maintain accuracy. Mine likes kodiak 21.14 gr heavies and jsb exact 25.39 gr jumbo monsters. Crosman premiers shot ok, maybe for fun plinking, but not if you want dead on accuracy.

    Accuracy,power,trigger,fit & finish & overall quality

    Things I would have changed:

How about a variant with a nice wood stock?

    What others should know:

I am more than impressed with this gun, I am completely amazed! Its awesome, & not just because it was inexpensive. Its light years ahead of not just any other Chinese barrel cocker I've ever tried but any made outside of England or Germany. Fit & finish, trigger & overall smoothness of operation seem very similar to an RWS rifle. Its big, but doesn't feel nearly as heavy as it looks. Its easier to cock than my less powerful Beeman RX2. Mine is .22 caliber- I chronographed premiers at 820 fps at an elevation of nearly 5000 feet- It should easily hit 900 fps or over at sea level. Accuracy is outstanding- I'm going with iron sights on this one, I want a simple easy to carry powerful iron sighted gun to supplement my scoped models. The supplied scope is going to a smaller rifle that needs one. I shot offhand groups at 30 yards with several medium to heavy weight pellets & premiers were the clear accuracy winner with nickel sized groups at that range. Walking around plinking at things like rocks, small pinecones, twigs etc. I was amazed how easy it was to hit with this gun. Even with iron sights golf ball size rocks at 50 yards were easy pickin's. Umarex hit a home run with the Octane & once word gets out how good it is they'll sell a ton of them. If the gas spring holds up over time we'll have a super winner! Mine sure brought a smile to my face & I would recommend it to anyone without reservation.

    Things I liked:

The workmanship is great, the plastic parts(stock) are solid and not cheep feeling. The machining finishes on the metal parts are excellent. Overall I was very impressed with my first airgun, I was kind of expecting, but hoping it wasn't a cheep feeling toy gun. First shot, Wow! Impressive.

    Things I would have changed:

The gun is a bit heavy, but manageable. This air gun is long and won't fit any of my gun cases, time to buy another case!

    Things I liked:

I had a Gamo that was rated at 1200 fps that cost considerably less a few years back. I use it to thin out the rabbits in the back yard. This is noticeably more powerful with a fairly strong recoil. It is a little scary in a residential area. I zeroed in the scope quickly and it seemed to be more consistently accurate.

    Things I would have changed:

I bruised my inner thigh cocking it as shown in the manual. I would suggest a softer recoil pad designed not so much for recoil, but cocking.

    What others should know:

It is a little heavy and the cocking requires some effort.

    Things I liked:

very accurate and pretty quiet; some have complained about the scope, but mine is great, adjusts correctly, stays put. after sight in, am able to put 5 shots in penny size group at 30 yards using crosman premier 14.3 grain hollw points. Sighting in 1" high at 30 yards, pellets hit at point of aim at 50, and completely penetrate a 3/4" board. easy to cock and has a great trigger. Safety is easy to reach and use. Like the thumbhole stock, makes shooing easier, and saves weight. I have about 50 airguns, and this one will be a favorite for small to medium game hunting.

    Things I would have changed:

Needs a sling or at least the mounts for one; other than that, this is one of the best gas piston rifles that i have owned....how about making one in 25 caliber??

    What others should know:

Clean bore before use, tighten all screws; you do your part, it will do it's part!! Great rifle! Rather use this for small game than a .22 long rifle.

    Things I liked:

Easy to cock for an Ultra Magnum air rifle. Accurate almost right out of the box. Not as hold sensitive as some of my other Ultra Magnum Springers. It's pretty quiet for this much power.

    Things I would have changed:

The stock needs a raised cheek piece. Get rid of the Quick Tips Tag that they stuff in the Breech and flattens the breech seal. I'm running out of Umarex Breech Seals. Better quality scope. It took over a hundred shots before it would hold center.

    What others should know:

This is not the most powerful Break barrel rifle on the planet. Trying 11 different pellets, the most power generated was 26.10 FPE. It fell 139 fps short of it's claim shooting alloy pellets and 98.9 fps short shooting 11.9 grain lead pellets. This rifle is however worth the money. It's accurate and pretty easy to cock for the power it generates.

    Things I liked:

I just picked one of these up and I am impressed. I cleaned the bore with some patches and shot some jsb monsters through it as I suspected that regular pellets would go super sonic. The jsbs still detonated the first few shots but then it settled down. I moved to h&n baracuda matches at 10.65gr. And they shot good. Next was crosman premiers and gamo red fires. These went super sonic immediately and sound like a .22 rimfire. This leads me to believe the claims of 1250fps with lead that Umarex makes. The baracudas are probably gonna be your minimum pellet weight for this gun. The scope is ok but to use it you need an adjustable mount as the rail is bolt on and not straight. Trigger is pretty good compared to crosman guns. I would say a 3-4 pound break. Its not pcp good but is way better than the crosman ones.

    Things I would have changed:

    Welded scope rail.

    What others should know:

Heavy pellets are a must for this powerhouse.

    Rating 5.05.0 5.0

    Things I liked:

The gas piston is phenomenal and the thumbhole stock is very comfortable. The weight of the rifle is a little on the heavy side but suits the power that the rifle has. The accuracy is second to none. I can easily hit a penny at 35 yards and it almost punches a crosman premier hollowpoint pellet through the penny at that distance. At 10 yards this rifle has penetrated THROUGH a one inch thick oak board. The trigger is alot nicer than many that come stock on a lower priced air rifle but I cannot wait until someone makes an aftermarket for it. The Octane in .22 will hold a half inch group at 30 yards, which is great for a rifle that produces 30+ ft lbs and is a break barrel. A great hunting air rifle that will easily take a ground hog out at 50 yards, from experience.

    Things I would have changed:

The scope is garbage. I cleaned and leaded in the barrel with 1000 rounds before mounting the scope and was able to get about 200 rounds through it before the scope broke. The accuracy of this rifle deserves a very high quality scope that is at least the cost of the rifle. 4-16x44 or more magnification and objective lense would suit this rifle well. The open sights are a bit sloppy but prove to be great inside 20 yards. The recoil pad is a bit tacky but nice and soft. The only downfall the this rifle that will make any difference to someone who likes to hunt at 30 yards or farther is the scope.

    What others should know:

This rifle is not for children! Careless actions with this rifle could VERY easily land someone in the hospital or the grave. That being said, this is the air rifle I will be using to hunt for a very long time to come. I have faith in this air rifle unlike any other rifle I have owned. The action and recoil is very smooth and easy to get used to. The .22 that I own seems to like the cheap Crosman Premier Hollowpoints perfectly. Cannot ask for the ability to put three pellets into a quarter at 50 yards with only three shots And the power to drop anything from a chipmunk to a raccoon at that distance. Great rifle when a quality scope is added
