    Things I liked:

Nice high power and accurate. The included scope is acceptable but you may want to change it later. The weight of the gun does a great job in helping to control movement at the bench.

    Things I would have changed:

I would prefer a no scope option so that I could substitute in better optics. The weight I great for bench shooting but I would prefer a couple of pounds lighter for field carry.

    What others should know:

Some people are reporting breech seal problems from a tag that Umarex puts in the chamber. I requested that Pyramyd check my rifle before shipping. There was no tag in the chamber and the seal is fine.

    Things I liked:

The Umarex Octane 0.22 is one fine air rifle. Well made, substantial, accurate, and very powerful. I stand five six and weigh 165lbs, and will be 83 in one month, and can say this is one of the easiest magnum rifles to cock that I have in my collection. To gage the power of this and all my other rifles, I use a collection of saved soup cans. This rifle will penetrate through four cans and nearly into a fifth, that's eight layers of corrugated metal. I was firing the following pellets at a distance of 20ft and they all had about the same penetration. Beeman Crow Magnum Hollow Point. 18.21gr. Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy. 21.14gr. H&N Baracuda. 21.14gr. JSB Match Diabolo Jumbo Heavy. 18.13gr. Polymag. 22.16gr. and finally Crosman Premier Hollow Point. 14.3gr. which did not quite make it through the fourth can. The sights are dead on out of the box with the Crosman 14.3gr and shoots about 3 inches low with the heavier pellets at this distance. I found the trigger acceptable and will see how it works in as I use it. There is virtually no movement of the barrel when firing.

    Things I would have changed:

The safety is one thing I have issue with. It does not feel as smooth as the rest of the gun and is a little awkward to operate.I would also prefer an enclosed front site as this one stands up just begging to be hit. Also carry swivels would be a godsend as this is one heavy piece of equipment.

    What others should know:

At this time I am not sure if I want to add weight and put a scope on or not, as I am impressed with the accuracy unscoped regardless of which pellets I use. The problem with all the manufactures of air rifles is that they provide the modern colored sites. What they should be providing is an enclosed pinhead front site and a V rear site for accuracy. This colored stuff covers too much of the target, especially when you are firing at a distance. This is just my opinion on sites and not a criticism of this rifle which will be a real winner with the right scope. All in all, this is one fine rifle, and I am very impressed with it, and looking forward when I can test it out at long distance and may be with a scope. I own a PCP, a couple of springers and another compressed gas gun, and this one is easily the best of the bunch. Congratulations Umarex, you have a winner and I'm glad I got mine before the rush starts and the price goes up. Hurry up guys, get one you won't be disappointed.

    Things I liked:

Before I bought this, I did allot of research. I got burned in the past with a Benjamin NPS...( not from Pyramyd)...This rifle is far and away better. It shot two 3-shot clover-leafs at 20 yards, with 2 different types of pellet, literally right out of the box. I followed the instructions and cleaned the bore before did anything. I was busy the afternoon it arrived so I just ran off 2 shots into the woods without really picking a target. I just wanted to make sure it functioned. Three days later I had some time on a warm afternoon so I sat down with 2 tins of pellets. RWS Supermag-9.3g-fieldline wad-cutters, and JSB Monster diablo 13.43g. They were my most accurate in my other high-velocity air guns. I didn't expect much until after break-in, but I set up a target for some open-sight work at 20 yards. The first 3 shots were Monsters and the grouped a dime size group just touching the upper left of my penny-sized target sticker! The second 3 were RWS and they grouped a clover-leaf just touching the bottom center of the sticker.!!!! I never even touched the sights!!! The fit and finish is impressive for a Chinese product. The power is exceptional. after the 8 total shots fired I set up my Chronograph and found the JSB Monsters ran at 797 fps and the RWS Supermags ran at 944 fps. RWS Meisterklugens 8.2g ran at 1065 fps and were not quite as accurate as the former 2 types of pellet. I am sure that after break-in this will shoot as advertised or better.

    Things I would have changed:

I would like the safety to be reversed. The way it is now, is too close to the trigger when on "fire". I would also like a little lighter trigger pull. I think I can take care of that myself. I enjoy tinkering with things. There is nothing more boring than something being perfect. I would also like to see it offered without a scope. I haven't tried this one, and don't plan to. If I get to the point where I can't use open sights at air rifle shooting distances, I will hang up shooting. Besides, I don't have enough retirement savings to buy enough scopes to outlast a magnum air rifle

    What others should know:

This is a seriously powerful rifle. If you are thinking of getting one for a youngster, be sure to teach them safety just as you would with any deadly devise. I shot a hole in my International Scout!!!! I hate to think of what it could do a person.

    Things I liked:

Good full size rifle. Fairly quiet operation, 74db. Consistant velocity 2-3fps sd. Accuracy OK at this point, about 1"@ 25yrds., not fully broken in yet, only 100 pellets so far, hoping for 1/2" once broken in. Hi-Vis fiber optic sights standard. Fit and finish are good quality. I like the factory trigger better than my Benjamin Nitro XL or Crosman Nitro Venom. Nice rifle for the money.

    Things I would have changed:

Offer for sale without the scope. Velocity well below advertised 848-851fps with Crosman .22 Domes, but rifle is not broken in yet, but do not think it will see more than 900fps with lead.

    What others should know:

This is a good rifle for the money, smooth cocking and shooting, plenty of power for hunting up to Rabbit.

    Things I liked:

Having already submitted a posted review of the Octane this is a follow-up. As I stated in the first line of the original review, I really wanted to like this .22 break-barrel from UMAREX...and now I do. My two sore points were the terrible too high fiber-optic sights, and the 14.25 length-of-pull(LOP) non- adjustable Synthetic stock. I was told by a UMAREX factory rep. that the balance of the 3 year warranty would remain in effect if I altered the stock. Since I would only lose the stock's warranty, I went ahead and shortened the stock, and used a Limb-Saver butt-pad to replace the original. With the LOP now at my 12.5" requirement, the front sight replaced with metal and shortened by 1/8", a Leapers UTG 4x32 scope mounted with Traditions see-throughs, and a left-side sling mounted on the very tough stock, I am now entirely satisfied with this rifle. It is my most accurate break-barrel. A friend and I compete on a 60' back yard range by picking off 20 gg shotgun hulls mounted on golf tees. With this gun properly zeroed I was able to remove 5 of 7 hulls with a pellet each and the remaining two with two pellets each, something only my too noisy GAMO Hunter extreme could duplicate, but it is too noisy for a backyard. The Octane is so quiet that the greatest noise is the pellets slapping the target. With the sling wrapped around my left arm (USMC style), and the rifle supported or not, this heavy gun is a pleasure to shoot. I recommend it for its accuracy, quality, and price.

    Things I would have changed:

As previously stated, the stock and sights. Also it would be very nice if UMAREX had some kind of keepers on the trigger group pins. If you take the stock off of this gun you must keep the action upright or you may find yourself trying to reassemble the trigger group, as all of the unsecured pins will drop out with the help of gravity. A good trick is to carefully wrap the trigger group with a paper strip and rubber bands to prevent spontaneous disassembly.

    What others should know:

I chronographed this gun with both GAMO Raptors and GAMO Match Diabolo wad-cutters, and found the speed to be 1120 fps for the Raptors, and 875 for the Diabolos. I now shoot only the GAMO Diabolos, as for me, they are the must accurate for this gun. Those speeds are more than enough to yield great accuracy with this gun's short 15.25" barrel. Part of the GAMO wad-cutter's accuracy is attributable to the pellet being so long in relation to other pellets, which while lighter and faster, are also shorter. Shortened pellets often yield inferior exterior ballistics even when they are pointed, as the aero dynamic advantage is often not enough to overcome the instability of shortness. Also, wad-cutters stop small game very well. The RWS Superdomes, nearly a grain lighter, just couldn't produce the tight groups that the GAMO wad-cutters could. Shortening the stock was easily accomplished by first removing the curved butt-pad, and using a 1/8" bit to extend the screw- holes about three more inches. In drilling plastics it is essential to only advance the bit a 1/4" at a time and withdraw it to remove the cuttings from the flutes of the drill bit. After careful measuring and using a cut-off power saw, I shortened the stock by 1.75". Then mounted a Limb-Saver butt-pad whose holes matched the original pad. With careful trimming and sanding the result was professional in quality, and with the proper 12.5" LOP, the gun was now more accurate and a pleasure to shoot.

    Things I liked:

I did a lot of research before I purchased this Air gun. I watched every You tube video, read every review article as I wanted the best air gun for the money that I could get. The power is great and accuracy it the best for this price level air gun. Seems to be well put together and fits the shooting position great. If you can get this air gun for under $200, get it. You will not be dissatisfied.

    Things I would have changed:

    Better finish!

    What others should know:

Now the bad: This air gun is heavy so if you are looking for something light, this is not your weapon. This air gun will arrive rusted. The finish and metal composition are prone to rust and it took be 2 hours or detail dissemblely to get it clean and rust free. This air gun is loud, no matter what you see on a review about it being quiet or their new noise system will make it soundless, is false. If I had to do it all over again, I should have bought a Ruger 10/22 or Marlin .17, both at around the same price point. Do not believe the hype about this air gun.

Wicked looks, high quality build, accuracy. Scope is nice too, better than a lot of combo units.

    Things I would have changed:

Maybe the trigger - pull effort is a little hard, but the more I shoot it the better I like it, so will probably leave stock for now.

    What others should know:

This gun is addictive. I got the 22 cal. version. Fun to shoot. Have been breaking it in at 50 feet using Crosman Premier 14.3 grain hollow points. Quarter sized groups. Scope is clear and sharp and easily sighted in. Great looking gun. Super value. Pyramyd Air is easy to deal with.

    Things I liked:

I have already reviewed this affordable and accurate break-barrel with praise for its accuracy but criticism of its sights and non-adjustable too long stock. I haven't solved the stock problem yet, but took two hours to solve the annoying fiber-optic sight issues yesterday. With a hacksaw, I carefully trimmed off the three supports of the front sight fiber, cut a deep slot, and JB welded in a new front sight I fashioned from a worn out hacksaw blade. I made the new sight two mm lower than the old. I turned down the rear sight an estimated number of clicks and struck a quarter sized target at ten yards with the very first shot size. This gun is accurate, and now mine has acceptable sights. I increased my rating of this gun based on how easy I was able to remedy the sight problems. I will shorten the stock, but only when I can figure out a way to do it that will not detract from the appearance of this nice looking rifle.

    Things I would have changed:

As I said before I would change the sights and stock.

    What others should know:

I chronographed this gun and was neither surprised nor disappointed that it didn't deliver the promised speed of 1250fps for alloy, or 1050fps for lead. Shooting a GAMO raptor produced an average speed 1120fps, and a GAMO Match Diabolo wadcutter an average speed of 875 fps. As far as I am concerned these are fine speeds, as I think many shooters obsess over it too much. It is worth noting that the speeds varied a lot less from shot-to-shot with this gun, and it isn't even broken-in yet. I have shot less than 100 pellets through it and am satisfied with its accuracy and consistency. I zeroed in a temporary 4x32 Barska scope I had laying around while waiting for the arrival of a new UTG of the same specs. Again, the accuracy was very good in the this quiet, limited recoil rifle with nice trigger.

    Things I liked:

muzzle silencer works great! scope mounts are solid.

    Things I would have changed:

Trigger second stage is way harder than any rifle I've shot. I have a Benjamin NPS .22 (Made in USA) and its trigger is great. This one is like 3 times as hard to pull through the second stage. The safety is exactly opposite of my other rifles in that you have to pull it backward to fire. HOW CONFUSING IS THAT? Breech seal was flattened/leaking by the plastic tips card that it comes with out of the China factory. Had to get another.

    What others should know:

This gun is heavy - 9.5 lbs with scope mounted. I have fired about 100 rounds through it so far and it still does not present the tight pattern that the Benjamin NPS has right out of the box. Still like the design and warranty so I'll keep it, but the Benjamin NPS is a much better gun.

    Rating 3.03.0 3.0

    Rating 3.03.0 3.0

    Things I liked:

I really wanted to like this gun. I like the: price, accuracy, quietness, safety, trigger, cocking effort, picatinny rail, low recoil, 3-year warranty, and even the weight. This is the quietest unaltered off-the-shelf break-barrel I have shot.

    Things I would have changed:

What were they thinking when they put such terrible sights on this gun? Visually impaired people who need fiber-optic sights are already scope dependent anyway, so why not put on a decent metal sight. The front sight is so tall that you will never use it once you scope this gun. The rear sight is so tight that it finishes the job of obscuring the target that fiber optic sights always do. The rear sight should be opened 2 mm more, and the front sight should be 2 mm lower. It seems that UMAREX out of fear that we would use the front sight as part of the cocking lever, or out of love of plastic, ruined this gun with these terrible sights. I guess UMAREX knows the sights are awful because they don't even include see-through mounts with the free scope, which doesn't have mildot crosshairs. I set the freebie aside and will use a UTG 4x32. I will also trim the front sight, and drill a new hole for the red fiber-optic. I will use Traditions muzzleloader see-through mounts for that UTG, and will, after much work, actually be able to use both those awful sights as well as the scope. The 14.25" length-of-pull stock is too long for me, and for a few dollars more UMAREX could have equipped this with an adjustable stock, or perhaps given us the choice of wood. The factory rep I talked to assured me that if I figured out a way to shorten the stock, that the only the stock's warranty would be void, with the rest of the gun remaining covered. Good luck trying that trick on a synthetic stock.

    What others should know:

Even if you clean the bore, the first shot will be loud from the dieseling of factory oil. The barrel is not 19.5" as the owners manual states, but is actually 15.25", with the remaining 4.25" being the SilencAir assembly. Internal ballistics end and external ballistics begin when the projectile is no longer in contact with the bore: that occurs after the pellet travels 15.25 inches. This reduces lock-time and helps accuracy. The shorter barrel was no surprise: after reading the reviews, but before buying this, I anticipated a shortened barrel as a key to this guns accuracy, in addition to its fine vibration/recoil management and nice trigger. Break barrels industry-wide tend to have too much barrel for cocking lever advantage, and lacking porting, require extensive auditioning to find the right pellet. Ported guns are less fussy about their diet. This gun needs no porting with it SilencAir assembly, but it is important to follow the owner's manual in regard to not grabbing the front sight area in cocking...there is no real need to put your hand much farther forward than the rear groove around the back of the SilencAir assembly, as this gun is not that hard (for me) to cock. If I was content to use this gun as a dedicated sights-only or scope-only gun, the only bone I would have to pick with UMAREX would be the 14.25" length of pull. Again, don't ignore the owner's manual admonition not to turn the trigger adjustment over a turn clockwise to reduce trigger length.

    Rating 2.02.0 2.0

    Rating 5.05.0 5.0

    Things I liked:

The precision is definitely worth mentioning - at 10-meters I was able to make 10-shot groups with Beeman Kodiaks that were simply one ragged hole. Groups got progressively larger with lighter pellets.

    Things I would have changed:

The factory either installed the wrong breech seal or crushed it during assembly. Half of it was actually embedded deeper than the metal surrounding it. Since other reviews have noted the same problem, these should be shipped with extra seals. Without a cheek rest, the stock is OK with the open sights, but when using the scope, it takes a little time with each shot to get proper eye alignment. I didn't find the recoil pad objectionable like some reviewers did. Even though I have extra large hands, I find the safety is hard to reach without rotating my hand on the pistol grip. The trigger pull weight is not adjustable - you can only adjust the length of the first stage (I didn't try it). All three screws on the stock came loose after about 150 shots - there wasn't enough locktite on the screws. The scope broke after about 200 shots - everything went blurry, and the zoom stuck on 3. Perhaps sell this gun cheaper without a scope?

    What others should know:

After replacing the breech seal, I put about 100 pellets through the gun before these tests. Here are my results for 5 shots of each (pellet, weight, average fps +/- approx range): H&N Field Target Trophy Green, 9.56 gr, 1038 +/- 20 (200 fps or 16% slower than claimed performance); RWS Superdome, 14.5 gr, 800 +/- 5; Beeman Kodiak, 21.14 gr, 683 +/- 0. Even though the description reads "Functions perfectly in cold weather," I found that the velocity drops about 12% and becomes erratic at temperatures near freezing. Tests with the Beeman Kodiak went from 683 fps +/- 0 at 65F to 600 fps +/- 30 at 33F. Worse, much like a CO2 gun, the more I shot, the slower the pellets went - dropping as low as 530 fps. Perhaps the metal of the barrel or the piston cylinder is contracting and increasing friction, or maybe the piston lube is turning to gel. Regardless, assuming the chronograph is functioning consistently at all temperatures, the perfect function in cold weather claim appears to be untrue. Lastly, I tested the statement "No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours." I left it cocked indoors for 8 hours and then shot through the chonograph. The speed of the Beeman Kodiaks dropped to 415 fps (previously 683 fps) and RWS superdomes dropped to 510 fps (previously 800 fps). Worse, it never recovered - this caused permanent damage. I'm assuming the gas piston leaked. I returned the gun and ordered the Hatsan 125 nitro piston.

    Things I liked:

So far I love it, it’s a powerful tack driver. I haven’t seen some of the problems noted on You Tube reviews such as the flattened breech seal or gritty trigger. The scope seems to walk somewhat, but it seems to be settling down. My only complaint so far is the rubber butt pad which is a little too soft and sticky, and the delicate unprotected front sight is just waiting to be damaged.

    Things I would have changed:

    Front sight, butt pad.

    What others should know:

After my Stoeger X50 (.177 cal) ate the combo scope that came with it after only 100 or so shots, and my Crossman MTR77 NP ate a BSA red dot after maybe 60 shots I’ve come to the conclusion that for any given power plant, gas and steel spring piston guns should be used with the heaviest pellet it will shoot well, so I got this one in .22 cal.

(2" groups) H&N 18.21g Baracuda hunter hollow point the same thing but 1.50" lower (3" groups) rifle shoots better than I can. I have nerve damage and shake and need glasses. My daughter at same distance can do (1" groups) same impact points as mine but much tighter.

    Things I would have changed:

I would like the rifle to come with out a scope. The scope that comes with it works well still after 1500 rounds. NO readjustments needed. I would like mill dot scope for estimation of heaver pellets and not need to guess hold over. I have purchased a 4x12-40 mill dot cant wait for it to get here. P.S. "UMAREX, GET RID OF TIP TAG IT FLATTENS OUT BREACH SEAL" and does not come with a spare

    What others should know:

I had to shim rear of scope to have enough height adjustment. before shimming at full adjustment was hitting 2" low. just take aluminum and fold it over a few times and slide under scope. if that does not give you enough add more foil. Hits like .22 cal. short. shot .22 cal. shorts to compare the OCTANE to.
