Our Cold Steel 1796 Light Cavalry Saber is inspired by the iconic swords used by the British and their allies at the Battle of Waterloo. Its distinctive blade profile is considered by some to have been derived from the Indian Talwar, and it gained such popularity that it remained in use (by the German Cavalry) until the beginning of the Twentieth century! But this is more than just an historically inspired showpiece - its a high quality modern saber that is fully capable of passing the famous British Proof Test for quality and durability. It comes with a fully sharpened forward edge, and your choice of a wood and leather scabbard with steel mounts and fittings, or the traditional all steel scabbard.

Great sword! Well lubricated so it's smooth removal & return to the sheath. The blade has a lot of heft but balances well in hand. The "blood grove" is cool; I'm not sure that is the proper name for it.
Expertly put together. I could not be happier with my purchase. Furniture is solid with no rattles. Sharpening service put a fine edge on the blade. If anything at all, the blade is a tad heavy, but well balanced.
I received the saber a few days ago. It came with the proof test certification and all I can say is this weapon is an absolute beast. The blade is sharp enough for cutting. The false edge is sharpened as well, and the weapon handles beautifully in the hand. It is light enough to be able to maneuver, but heavy enough to make an incredible blow. This is an excellent saber is running slightly ahead of my Polish Saber as my favorite.

I bought this back in 2009 and it certainly is a good looking saber at a very reasonable price. When compared to the real thing, the Cold Steel seems to weight about 1020 grams, while the original is 860 grams. It seems this is because the Cold Steel version has less steel removed from the fuller making it less flexible and heavier to wield. That given, unless you are going to get into a saber fight, the Cold Steel replica is very handsome.
