While Japanese sword cutting competitions have been popular for many decades, there has been little or no interest in exploring the cutting potential of Western swords until very recently. Now in response to this awakening Cold Steel would like to encourage it by offering our own Competition Cutting Sword. Broadly based on the Arbedo, its intended for contests using rope, mailing tubes, tatami mats and similar soft targets. The thin, wide, double edged blade is hand forged from 1050 high carbon steel with a hard spring temper and is delivered fully sharpened and polished. For maximum control and leverage, when attempting big cutting feats, our Competition Cutting Sword comes with a substantial leather covered wood handle that will accommodate one or both hands. To protect your fingers and fend off opposing blades, a simple yet effective double quillon steel guard is provided. To help counter balance its wide blade, its supplied with an attractive flared, lozenge shaped steel pommel and comes encased in a thick and sturdy, black leather scabbard with matching steel throat and chape.

This will cut ! with two hands a bit big for one hand but can be done,The blade is sharp with some flex the over all balance is very good
I bought this sword mostly because it was the most affordable option for a classic looking medieval blade, it is a thin blade, because it’s meant to slice through mats and other light targets. I used it to cut water bottles, cardboard boxes, reed mats, water hose with hard bamboo in the middle, empty Pringle cans, green branches 1” think or so, and sliced a whole pig to baggie sized pieces. This is NOT what it is intended for and I did bend the blade on the shoulder blades of the pig, but that was my own dumb fault. This thing exceeded my expectations so much I bought 4 other blades from cold steel and lan to continue buying their products to add to my collection! Anyone who buys a blade from the factory should always assume it needs a little hone to be razor sharp, this one was very sharp already, plenty sharp for defense and cutting. I always have a steel or ceramic rod with me when I’m cutting and use it through out the cutting, this is normal reality.
It’s a little idk flimsy basically it’s very thin and very flexible I worry it wouldn’t hold up in a defense situation but I still carry it so it’s pretty good

I was got interested in swords again recently and was excited to find this reasonably priced usable sword at a local store. I'm don't really know anything about swords but this one seems really nice. It came sharp but not razor sharp, I was able to cut a sheet of paper with a few inch section of one side of the blade. I'll have to learn how to sharpen it. I am excited to test this on more than blackberry vines.
