This is a Fantastic air rifle, that is due some Respect, The craftsmenship that Cometa puts into their products is second to none, ordnance grage cold hammered steel barrels, fiely crafted walnut stock(premier model's), I have the .22 Fusion Premier(minus the rising comb), and it puts out as much power as my Hatsan AT44, maybe a little more, and that's with outstanding accuracy. This is definately a gun you'll be passing down the line, It's that good!

Not a Thing!

My gun just loves H&N Field Target Trophies w/ a head-size of 5.54mm, with a drop of lube added to the tin, I easily get sub3" groupings @ 75meters, Easily takes down 20-25pd JackRabbits. The length of the barrel is a little decieving, the actual "rifled" barrel is about 12" long with the remainder being a "hollow-tube" capped off by an Air-Diffuser",very innovative, right up there with Air Arms "Smooth-Twist" barrel, Don't let the "smaller" rifled barrel scare you away, this guns a "Tack-Driver" in every sense of the term. Simply Excellent!

Glen,,,,,,It sounds to me that "Domingo" must of gotten a "Lemon"(It DOES happen occasionaly), I have 3 Cometas 2 Fusion Premiers(One w/ a Full "Performence" tune, the other not as much , w/ the difference being the MainSpring used, My "Performence" tuned Fusion has a Crosman Quest 1000 m/s, while the other has a "Mendoza "Medium Velocity" m/s in it which gives it a "Decent" muzzle velocity of around 850fps(depending on the weight of the ammo I'm using),,My other Cometa is a .22 Fenix 400 Premier that has the Crosman m/s in it, and puts out just under 1000fps(And that's with "LEAD"!). It's a Great shooter, but I prefer the Fusions, especially for "Long-Range" shooting. Now that I've gotten into PCP's, The Cometas don't get as much time in the field now(Except for the Winter months, Where I usually don't bring my PCP's out into the field for obvious reasons. I hope this answers all your questions, but don't be "shy" in asking if there's something else you'd like to know. Cheer's Andy.

Richard,,,,,,At this time(I usually switch my Scopes around periodically), I've got my "Hawke 4-16X50 A/O I.R. Mil-Dot", on this Shooter now, and I've got No Complaints w/ it's Performence so far. I'll usually put on a "Fitco 4-16X44 A/O I.R. Mil-Dot", or one of my UTG R/G Dot's on(especially if I know I'll be doing "Short Range" Bush shooting for "Cotton Tail's), I usually save my Red Dot's for any "Short Range" (50 meters or less) shooting or for my Cross-Bows. I actually just received my UTG 4.2" 38mm ITA CQB in preparation for the Benjamin "Pioneer" Air-Bow I recently ordered,,,,Now, That's a Combo I can't wait to try out, Too bad I have to wait 'til P/A gets them in. Cheer's Andy.

32ft/lb springer you're making 150 yards shots with; 25 lb. jackrabbits ............ya right.

Andy Dec 20, 2015

I bought this shooter in Canada, and "Out of the Box" it was nothing to right home about performance wise, very under-powered, but with minimal tuning it's a fantastic shooter, All I did was clean & polish the internals a little bit, and the best mod you can do w/ these guns is change the main-spring,,,I switched over to a Crosman Quest 1000 mainspring, and that was the kicker so to speak. The power level went up by almost 100%, putting out over 30ft/lbs, just a touch below my Hatsan AT-44 that puts out 32ft/lbs, As for the other question, I put some "Sports-Match" fully adjustable rings on it, and some good glass on top, and it's a "Tack-Driver", w/ this set-up, you can easily make 150yd shots hole on hole, its one of my favourite shooters now for Jack-Rabbit, making shots I never dreamed of before. Cheer's Andy.

Such divergent experiences with the same gun. What do you think this can be attributed to? Cometa seem to have a strong reputation, but Domingo's review below describes a very bad experience with his Cometa Fusion. Should I buy this gun?

I have the Cometa Fusion in .22. The wood is lovely, the bluing is of medium depth, and the fit and finish is excellent. I find the accuracy of the rifle to be first-rate. Right up there with my Dianas out to about 30 yards. For pest control and small game, it has become my go-to rifle and is very reliable. I use Predator PolyMags from here at Pyramid Air for ammo in it. So, while this gun is pretty, it is not something to hang on the wall.

Trigger pull is very acceptable but it would be nice if it could be made a little lighter.

I am writing this review because there is only one other review of this rifle here and I do not think that review is accurate. I have several break barrel and side lever air rifles: 3 Diana's, a Stoeger, and a Hatsan.
I have no idea what it would be like to try and get this rifle services if anything ever went wrong with it. Fortunately, it is extremely well made and mine has been completely reliable.

Pyramyd has been trying to unload this 1 returned rifle for well over a year, nobody wants it. That speaks volumes.

Nice design, comfortable stock, very easy to cock, light weight.

The quality controls. The rifle is pretty, but nothing else. Accuracy is abysmal. The trigger is unpredictable and feels like sandpaper. A pretty object to be displayed on a wall, not to be taken to the field.

If you are thinking about getting this rifle, read this review carefully. There are huge quality control issues with this product - what I will describe of course pertains to the gun I looked at, tried, and inspected very carefully before returning it to PA.

a) The bore was horrifically undersized (0.177) - to the point that Premiers did not fit into the breech. As a QC issue, this is totally unacceptable.

b) When cocking the gun it was obvious that the contact area between the barrel and the action was uneven - again, a completely unacceptable degree of quality control sloppiness.

c) The gun was grossly inaccurate, printing groups of over two inches at 12 yards, even when great attention to hold and follow through was paid.

d) The gun has a perforated aluminum muzzle piece which looks very nice, but which fulfills absolutely no useful purpose. The company that makes the gun claims such a component helps dissipate the turbulence that forms as the air exits the barrel and that the pellet must go through as it leaves on its trajectory. Such claim is unfounded and has no merit, especially in a rifle so utterly inaccurate as this one.

Close examination of the gun gives the firm impression of a dressed-up $90 Chinese rifle, only much less accurate and with far worse quality control issues.

To be fair, there are some elements of design in this gun that reveal some attempt at quality, but without proper QC that means very little.

Sounds like you had a very bad experience. I was considering buying this model until I read your review. What did Cometa say about your problems? Did they offer to fix the gun? There are plenty of flattering reviews about Cometa's Air Rifles, and conflicting reports on the same models, like this one. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll avoid Cometa. I wouldn't want to be bummed out. Hope you are shooting a better rifle lately. Cheers.

I will note that the photos provided on this listing make the gun look slip-shod. The picture of the safety mechanism looks like it was slapped on and then sanded with 50 grit sandpaper. When even the sales photos of the gun look terrible it makes me worry. It definitely does not look like a $400 gun.
