Description
The Gamo Hornet Maxxim incorporates Inert Gas Technology (IGT) into the powerplant by using a gas cylinder versus a conventional spring. That means you get smoother cocking and shooting, no spring torque, no spring fatigue, no issues shooting in cold weather, and a much longer life than a spring powered gun. Not only is this rifle incredibly powerful, but it has many features that set it apart from ordinary breakbarrel rifles with a typical metal spring. The IGT allows you to cock the gun and wait before you take your next shot without worrying about the metal spring weakening. Gas pistons are robust and shoot MUCH smoother, delivering less twang and vibration to the shooter!
New to Gamo is the Whisper Maxxim sound suppression technology. Not only does it deliver a quieter shooting experience, but it also offers even more recoil reduction in addition to enhanced balance and handling.
The ambidextrous synthetic stock has a raised cheekpiece on each side, making this gun ideal for right- or left-handed shooters. The buttpad incorporates the Shock Wave Absorber (SWA) for more recoil reduction. While the gas piston seriously reduces the vibration, the SWA recoil pad stops you from feeling most of the recoil from the remaining movement of the gun.
The Hornet Maxxim is equipped with the Custom Action Trigger (CAT). Light years better than the previous version, you can tailor this trigger to your personal preference. With this smooth and predictable trigger, you'll be amazed at what a great shot you are!
Only Gamo offers the Recoil Reducing Rail (RRR). Designed to subdue the stress on your scope, the RRR absorbs shockwaves and reduces the stress on the internal components of your scope by almost 100%. That equals a longer scope life for you. This rifle is sure to please any shooter who wants precise, quiet accuracy.

10 of 32 Gamo Hornet Maxxim IGT CAT Air Rifle Reviews
Extremely happy with my air rifle, shoots great up to 100 yards. Had ages 8-70 shoot it multiple times. All very excited about shooting more.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowVery accurate and powerful. I highly recommend this air rifle.
Great value and quility. With a little better scope than what came with it, I get quarter size groups at 40 yard's... great.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowEveryone I have let shoot it, ages 7 and up love shooting this rifle in 177 call.
The Gamo hornet maxxim is worth every penny great hunting rifle for small game and shooting targets
What Others Should KnowYay buy one its worth it
Accurate and powerful. My rifle will produce dime size groups at 30+ yards. Like I said powerful enough to kill small game. I have killed many squirrels, rabbits, a coon, skunk and a crow. It pushes Hobbie 11.9 grain pellet 803 fpe =17.04 fpe and the H&N Field Target Trophy pellet 712 fps =16.5 fpe. This is a light, easy to carry and shoot rifle. The trigger is nice and light, this is what you want in an air rifle. Gamo has it going on on the barrel lock up system. Some people complain that gamo has a synthetic barrel cover, but they have it so the barrel never comes loose and locks up perfect every time. I have never had to tighten my barrel one time out of thousands of shots, it always stays tight. That is superior technology. I have to tighten the screws on all of my other spring rifled barrels.
Things I Would Have ChangedMaybe open sights would be nice. Nothing else.
What Others Should KnowYou don't need a 1000 fps rifle to be effective and deadly on small game.
Yesterday I shot a rabbit through the neck and out the chest, dead right there, power to spare.
I own several break barrel air rifles, a Walther Parrus 22, Hatsan125 .25, Weihrauch HW80 .22 and they are more powerful than the Gamo Hornet Maxxim 22, but the Gamo is easiest to cock, super fun to plink with and I don't get worried about scratching the stock like I would with my HW80. Fun without the worry.
Plan on putting a tin of Crosman Premier Hollow Point pellets through it. $6.24 for 500 pellets at Walmart. Happy shooting.
I've purchased 3 all in 22 caliber. On first one, I learned how accurate this rifle is IF you clean the barrel BEFORE attempting to site in scope/ gun. Once clean, had quarter size groups at 30yd. I've hit targets 90 ft high in trees and well over 50yds linear distance, felling them as plenty of power. Seems GAMO has got game. This rifle is probably the best value for the money in nitrogen piston arena.
Things I Would Have ChangedBetter scope, although it's adequate
What Others Should KnowExcellent one piece scope mount.
Found that JSB Match Diablo exact 18 grain 5.52mm take full advantage of power plant, seat tightly, and are more stable, consistent for this rifle vs lighter pellets
A really nice smooth action break barrel rifle. Easy adjustable trigger and exceptional accuracy.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe scope is inexpensive!
Lightweight. Shoots good and accurate. Not bad Scope when compared to others that are included with Gun.
Things I Would Have ChangedPut some Black Paint on Metal Trigger so it matches the Gun. Would have saved me doing it.
What Others Should KnowA worthy Gun to add to your collection.
Cocks easy enough, feels comfortable, about as quiet as I expected, haven't found the right combination of pellets but fairly accurate.
Things I Would Have ChangedAdvertised for small game and plinking, Plinking is great, but only pisses a squirrel off. Maybe not the right pellet yet. Hollow points aren't working.
What Others Should KnowThere is no adjustment to the trigger as advertised or mentioned in owners manual. Set screws are bottomed out and tight, cant turn in to adjust.
everything! this gun shoots great.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing.

Things I Would Have ChangedTerrible Accuracy, produces 7" groups at 20 yds on a good day. Chronic Dieseling, smoke in the barrel after every shot, even after thorough cleaning. I never once used flammable cleaning agents. Ineffective "Recoil Reducing Rail" that began to dent or deform where the scope pin inserts (it's made out of a softer metal than the pin). I have put about 500 pellets through it by now, and seeing no benefit from break-in. I am familiar with artillery hold and the mechanics of piston air guns. At this point, the squirrels are laughing at me while they make off with my apples by the bushel. They'll probably turn on my tomatoes next ...TL;DR This gun is not for hunting, unless you dont want to hit what you're aiming at.
What Others Should KnowI purchased this gun after having good experiences with the .177 Varmints I borrowed from family members last fall & winter. In hindsight I should have just bought a Varmint for half the price, but I wanted something with more stopping power in .22 without the plastic auto-load. Given that I shot dimes with two different Varmint guns at 20 yds, quarters at 30, I have to assume its the gun. Bear in mind, I am convinced I received a lemon based on other reviews, so take this with a grain of salt, but don't assume it can't happen to you. I have heard nothing from Gamo on my warranty claim in over a month.
