Super easy for my 6 year old son to cocktail, load and shoot!
Things I Would Have ChangedSlightly more power, but it's still very good for kids learning how to shoot.
What Others Should KnowI bought this airgun for my 6yr old son. He wanted a break barrel airgun just like his dad. After doing some research, I ended up picking this Stoeger X3. Glad I did, my son loves it! Added a leapers 4x32 and he's nailing 2" spinners out to 20 yards consistently. He have a blast out in the back yard. After school that's all he wants to do, shoot his airgun! If your looking for a super fun, super easy to cocktail, and accurate shooter for a young little shooter, look no more! Get one! Nice little wooden stock too. Can't go wrong with this X3.
Nice stock work, fit and finish. Sights are good and cocking effort is very light. Bluing was rich and deep, a perfect job for a gun of this price.
Things I Would Have ChangedFor the money it's design leaves nothing to be changed. If, for it's size and power it could send out a pellet with more energy, it would be a more effective walk around pest gun. I had about half the pellet (Crosman Premier HP) stick out of a plywood board at about 45 feet.
What Others Should KnowIt is great for those who are new to the sport and just want to try out these type guns. Cocking effort is very low and easy to find target with the included peep sights. I would suggest a nice all metal peep (Williams, Beeman) sight for faster target acquisition and accuracy. I was not enthralled with the power it produces so I returned it and ordered the X5 which is substantially better in size and power for the same price. Have been really impressed with my X20 and this new X5. I will probably get the X50 in .25 cal, but it will be a much heavier gun for sure.
The size is very nice. I am 6.1 and I really enjoy this little shooter. I have 2 of these. One with a scope and one with a peep. They both shoot as good as the x5. X5 and X3 shoot the RWS Basic pellets extremely well. Pea size groups at 10 meters. Wow!
Things I Would Have ChangedThe color of the stock is unattractive. Kind of a muddy orange with black specs. Paint remover is uneffective, so the only way to remove this ugly color is to sand it off. It is a strange finish as it does not even load up the sandpaper. A nice deep dark Walnut stain on this Maple stock really changes the look of the quality and makes it look like an expensive rifle.
What Others Should KnowThis rifle (both X3's) weigh in at 5.2 lbs each. The X5 (both X5's) weigh 6.2 lbs each. The X3 shoots the .177 RWS Basic pellets very good and averages 550-560 fps. The X5 shooting the same pellet fires about 100 fps more. I like the short solid feel of the X3. After shooting the X3 a while then trying the X5, the X5 feels long and a bid awkward. The triggers are the same and much better than they first appear. Oil the trigger and shoot a tin of pellets through it and you will be amazed.
Good youth rifle for my 9 year old. Nice size, easy to cock, made pretty well/solid.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe trigger is pure agony (for me) and noticably alters POI.
What Others Should KnowMy Son loves it, but I wish we could have gotten the X-5. Unfortunately, the X-5 is just too big. I wish a better youth rifle was available for about $150!!
Small size, light weight, decent trigger, and good accuracy.
Things I Would Have ChangedNo chamfer was cut on the edge of chamber. Pellets were hard to load until I fixed this.
What Others Should KnowThis was the smallest lightest shortest spring air rifle I could find for my 8 year old son. I would highly recommend it.
Build quality, adjustable three-dot fiber optic sights, quietness, size for a 10 year old. Just a nice little airgun.
Things I Would Have ChangedTrigger is decent for a $90 gun, but it might be nicer if it was adjustable like with the X10 on up in that line.
What Others Should KnowThe 10-for-10 test by PA saw FPS speeds of about 530 using a 7gr Beeman Laser. Ideal gun / velocity for teaching my son to shoot. It's easy to cock, is handy, points well and is a great indoor gun because it's very quiet.
I'll just say this -- when I unwrapped the gun, inspected it and then shot it in my basement range to start the break-in process, I practically couldn't put the little guy down. Fun shooter!
