Description
Ataman airguns are known for their outstanding quality, exceptional reliability and cutting-edge technologies. The legendary expertise of Russian gunsmiths stand behind every Ataman airgun in addition to their state-of-the-art production and the superior materials they use to construct the guns.
Fine craftsmanship and excellence is evident in every aspect of this pistol from its Lothar Walther barrel, to the adjustable trigger, lightweight versatility, and power.
For the ultimate in shot-to-shot consistency, the integrated pressure regulator ensures the Ataman makes the most efficient use of the remaining air supply. Because of the regulator, the Ataman AP16BSM delivers more shots per fill and it features a stunning 4,350 psi (300 BAR) fill pressure. With up to 20 shots per fill, you'll enjoy the consistency of shooting.
The two way adjustable trigger allows you to adjust the first stage travel and second stage release point, while you can customize the pull weight to your preference.

Accuracy: With open sights, standing, at 20yrds I can hit a 6in plate every time. You'd need a scope and bench to really wrestle out just how precise this guy is. Looks: If you're a 1911 fanboy it's hard to say no to this thing. The finish is quite good as well, and I love the scales on the grips. Trigger: This alone could be the number one selling point. If you like tinkering with triggers the AP16 has you covered. It has adjustable spring tension on the trigger, primary sear, and the secondary sear. It also has adjustable preset on the sear as well as the trigger. You'll be measuring your trigger pull in ounces rather than pounds. Power: While it doesn't have near the power of a full length barrel it will get you the advertised speed and then some with light pellets. Technically, it exceeds a lot of the UK regulations (sorry guys). Consistency: It'll shoot true until you run it off the regulator.
Things I Would Have ChangedPrice: The only reason I justified this purchase is that it was a refurb and priced lower. I would not personally pay full price for it. Magazine: Technically a "clip" but that's splitting hairs: my problem is that it doesn't always index properly and frequently misses a cylinder. I've shot about 3 dozen clips through it (about 250 shots) and have had it only function properly on maybe half the clips: All the others have had at least one skip. Holster: Seriously, for the price of this thing they could throw in a holster. Currently I carry it around the farm in the back pocket of my 511's uncocked on an empty cylinder. And as far as I can tell there isn't a 3rd party holster for it either. I will have to make my own. Grip storage: Maybe this is just the engineer in me but, there is plenty of room in the grip to store a couple clips and even the fill probe. Just seems like a missed opportunity and wasted space. I have misplaced the probe several times already.
What Others Should KnowThis gun is fun, but can be really frustrating when it skips a pellet and you have to index it manually. I'll be looking into ways to fix this since I do enjoy the gun and don't want to send it back. It really does feel great in the hand and is just dang pleasing to look at. Everyone I have had shoot it is extremely impressed with the trigger.
I do recommend getting 2 extra clips "magazines" so you can walk out and shoot a full tank without reloading the clips.
Personally, I like to adjust all of the first stage out of the trigger as there is no real solid "wall" to feel in it, but to each their own.
Impressive quality, fit, finish and function, and INCREDIBLE accuracy and trigger action (after adjusting out the gritty, crunchy first stage). Long-slide 1911-esque styling is a bonus for 1911 cultists.
Things I Would Have ChangedI would say make it less expensive, if that wasn't unrealistic. In my opinion this beautiful beast is a bargain!
What Others Should KnowThough I've only had a couple WINDY days to wring it out, it quickly became obvious the AP shoots so well it would take a 4-12X rifle scope to expose its accuracy potentials (at 50 yards). My AP16 (long) will average sub-1" five-shot groups at FIFTY YARDS. Charged to 270 BAR (on the gun gauge), the 30 shot powerband with 18.13 grain JSBs was most impressive- Low= 626, Hi= 633, ES= 7, SD= 1.5, Average= 630 FPS/16 foot-pounds. Last night I couldn't resist shooting a (7 shot) magazine before retiring, despite light and variable crosswinds. Adjusting my hold with each shot in reaction to the wind flags, that seven-shot, fifty-yard group measures just .74" center-to-center! NO, the AP16 is NOT overpriced.
Everything, very well built and surprisingly lighter than I expected. Accuracy is very very good, I'm currently shooting the 17.5 nsa slugs at 625fps and they pack a punch! I also mounted a hawke red dot and this helps tremendously.....
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing its good as is
What Others Should KnowIf u are on the fence, don't be, it's a beast!
The appearance of quality.
Things I Would Have ChangedA pistol that works.
What Others Should KnowThe one I was sent had a loose rubber O-ring in the bottom of the breach when I cocked it the first time. It could only be charged to about 2.4 bar's. the first magazine functioned okay but when I put the magazine in the second time the bolt only went partially forward pushing a pellet into the chamber but not closing completely. When I pulled the cocking lever back it would not go forward at all. I returned it for a full refund of the $1,104 I paid for it after wasting the day trying to get the damn thing to work. Tech support is e-mail only and they didn't get back to me. I called customer service this morning for a refund and they sent me a return label. For $1,104 I got a piece of high priced junk. Customer service was very nice to deal with and it wasn't their fault the damn thing didn't work.
Accuracy, balance in your hand (just a great quality built PCP hand gun). We love this gun, not the price.
Things I Would Have ChangedOther than a lower price, none.
What Others Should KnowNew owners need to purchase a moderator due its loud report. I purchased my moderator from DonnyFL in .25 cal to avoid any clipping. Air fill: avoid cheat hand pumps and other PCP fill devices (In the long run, 300 bar fills separate the cheat from quality).
This pistol ( I bought the long barrel version), unlike most PCP pistols which are exceedingly large, is much closer to a regular size pistol and can be carried easily. It is very accurate as stated and very well built. It is strong but should have been more powerful. Having a bit more power would have made it a perfect overall choice since it is a repeater
Things I Would Have ChangedI would have wanted at least another 100fps for the price. I am sure that could have been done with 300 bar pressure
About a year and a half ago I purchased the AP16 from Pyramid and hadn't had much of a chance to get acquainted with it until recently. I also own an FX Ranchero and have put more than a few rounds through it. What I like about the AP16 is the way this 1911 styled piece fits in the palm of my hand, better than my Ranchero. Also, with a little work on the shroud and receiver it now shoots spot on at ten yards with open sights. The light trigger is just what the doctor ordered for someone with arthritic hands.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe one thing I'd change is the pistols manual. It definitely could be more informative.
What Others Should KnowAfter putting more than a few rounds through it with open sights it kept pulling low and to the left. I'm not bad with open sights and have taken a lot of deer with open sights. At ten yards it left me very frustrated and I started thinking it was me. So then I thought I'd I'd drop my Leapers 1.25-4x32 on it that was on my Ranchero. Popped it in my gun vice, slapped some levels on it and couldn't believe my eyes. The shroud had a twist in it opposite of the receiver. Loosened the shroud and brought it back in line with the receiver. What a difference, it's now spot on with open sights. Mounted my scope on it and its a tack driver at ten yards, confirmed. Cant wait to zero it at 25 yards. A word of advice, don't let it drop below 120 bar or it will dump what ever air is left in the air cylinder. My advise, refill it after every two Mags. It loves JSB jumbo heavy's and jumbo monsters. This is a great shooting pistol; however you need to take your time getting acquainted with it.
The accuracy is almost as good as my feinwerkbau target pistols. One ragged hole at 10 meters with 7 shots. The ergonomics are very similar to a 1911, so it is comfortable to shoot. The trigger is smooth, not perfect, but very good. The power is insane considering this compact of a package.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe noise level, this is a very loud airgun. The barrel is shrouded, I would have like to see the shroud including a bit of baffling or suppression built in like many of the pcps on the market now. The trigger would be nicer as a 2 stage. The sights are a bit weird with the vertical adjustment being done on the front sight and windage on the rear, this is just like a Russian target gun I own.
What Others Should Knowthis gun likes heavy pellets. With JSB Exact Diablo Monster and Diablo Heavy I get ragged one hole 7 shot groups at 10 meters, and the heavier pellets also produce more energy. I dropped a burris fastfire 3 red dot onto the build in dovetail along the barrel shroud and the gun shoots amazingly. I can get three full magazines on a 300 bar charge, 21 full power shots. I have a Benjamin marauder woodswalker, Hatsan AT P1 in .25, a Diana Bandit in .22 and several feinwerkbau match pistols to compare to, and although it isn't the best value for the money of my collection, it is pretty much the most powerful, and aside from the feinwerkbaus it is the most accurate and comfortable to shoot. For field work the only other pistol this one contends with is the Marauder Woodswalker, and this definitely has more power and is more comfortable and accurate, but the marauder is much much quieter. If the shroud on the barrel functioned like the marauder's there wouldn't even be a comparison here.
The accuracy of this is sickening amazing. I couldn't be happier with it. Russians make some sweet stuff, and this thing just proves it. If anyone doesn't like it, they either never had one, or just didnt really have the money to spend on a neat rig like this. I love having all of the spare air cylinders for it too. I put a nice burris pistol scope on it and it can't get much more accurate and consistent.
Things I Would Have ChangedI have zero complaints about it.
What Others Should KnowYou'll it. I will probably buy another one too, so I can ha e two different setups.
