SIG Sauer ASP20 Gas-Piston Breakbarrel Air Rifle, Beech Stock

  • Gas-Piston
  • Breakbarrel
  • Weaver/Picatinny Rail
  • Black Stained Beech Stock
  • Integrated Suppressor
  • 2-Stage Adjustable MatchLite® Trigger, 2.5-4 lbs trigger pull
  • GlideLite™ Cocking Mechanism
  • Wedge Lock Breech System eliminates barrel droop

SIG Sauer breaks into the breakbarrel airgun market with the US made ASP20 Break Barrel Rifle, a suppressed single-shot, gas piston rifle ideal for backyard target shooting and taking down small game.

Available in .177 and .22 the ASP20 uses a gas piston powerplant that is specially calibrated to deliver its pellets downrange at optimal speeds for accuracy and energy.  The added benefit of this powerplant is the ability to shoot in colder weather without sacrificing power as you would with a spring-piston.  Each uses a Glidelite Cocking Mechanism to ensure that your cocking effort is a smooth and manageable 33 lbs.  In the .177 caliber, the ASP20 slings pellets at 1021 fps, and at 841 in .22 to dump 20 to 23 FPE into your targets.  This design is based on the notion that subsonic pellets will fire more accurately, a maxim that proves true time and time again among premium airguns.  Built for quiet backyard shooting, those powerful shots are all moderated by an integrated suppressor.

Moving to the action, the ASP20 features an adjustable 2-stage Matchlite® Trigger, designed for smooth and consistent trigger pulls to aid in accurate shot placement. A proprietary drill-pinned Breech Wedge Lock System also aids in improved accuracy by perfectly lining up the action with the barrel.  A long Weaver/Picatinny rail awaits your choice of optics, and all of these features are set into an ergonomic black stained beech stock with excellent checkering on the grip and forend.

All of these options culminate in a superior gas-piston breakbarrel air rifle that lives up to SIG’s legacy of crafting airguns with improved tech, quality build, and are a thrill to shoot.

Things I liked: I like the feel, balance, weight, accuracy, cocking weight, build quality, noise level and looks. Mine is in .22 with the Beech stock.

Things I would have changed: I'll have to get back to you on that as I've found very little that I don't like yet, though I might add sling swivels. I wish the scope base came back farther as I have to crowd the stock to get a full sight picture. An adjustable length of pull might help with this too.

What others should know: The only pellets I've been using so far have been Crosman Premier Hollow Points. There are acceptably accurate but don't seat without a little help. I've been using a pen to seat the pellets and it works fine. I'll be trying other pellets and maybe they'll seat easier.

Things I liked: This is my first Breakbarrel air rifle and im impressed. It took about 100 shots to break in, and for the accuracy to really get going. I have this in .22 I was able to get good groups at 50 yards. What impressed me the most is when i loaded it with JSB 15.89s and shot at a bird from 50 yards. SMACK! From the first shot! It dropped dead immediately. Then 10 minutes later another bird sits at the same spot. I load the barrel and take another 50 yard shot and again, from the first shot, its down! This thing prefers, the JSB 15.89. Ive fired the JSBs 18grain, the Crosman Premier Hollow points, and the H&N Hornets. This gun shoots them all well. Accuracy is the hallmark of this gun, it also looks and feels premium. I feel as though this gun can last 10+ years with ease. The cocking effort is easy, i shot this thing for 4 hours on my first sitting and felt no fatigue. This needs an airgun rated scope. I use the Hawke Airmax 4-12x40 and theyre great together. The trigger is great too

Things I would have changed: maybe reduce the trigger pull weight to an even lower 1.5 or 2 pounds? Maybe im being too picky. The trigger is smooth on default, which is 3 pounds, it gets better at 2.5 pounds.

What others should know: If you want to get yourself your first Springer, you might want to consider the ASP 20 The accuracy The build quality The trigger The looks The fact that its completely assembled in America. Are all reasons to get this gun That and Its loads of fun to shoot

Things I liked: We have 2 of these in 22. Gun 1 has over 8,000 shots through it. Gun 2 has over 3.000 shots fired through it. There are no signs of ware on either rifle. The accuracy is still excellent. The power has remained unchanged. With RWS hobby lead pellets 11.9 grain 931 fps average @ 3,000 shots, 931 fps average @ 6,000 shots in10 shot strings. We shot 30 different pellets to find the best pellet. With alloy pellets we got over 24 fpe. The trigger pull we adjusted to 2 lbs. Great trigger! The Sig ASP 20 is now our favorite break-barrel over my Beeman R9.

Things I would have changed: None. The ASP 20 is a great high quality product and it's made in the USA.

What others should know: The latch mechanism needs to be lightly greased occasionally to keep the barrel closing freely. Best pellet is the Air Arms 16 gr. with the 5.51 head size. JSB 15.89 gr. domed pellets also shot well as did the Crosman premier domed pellets. Pellets with .552 head size will also fit the breech Larger sizes are a very tight fit.

  • Jeffrey from USA asked:

I've heard that the Whiskey3 scope has been discontinued by SigSauer, implying that the package deal will now never occur. Can yo please confirm this?

    • Mark from USA:

There is no package. Just the rifle .

  • Tim from USA asked:

What's this "wedge lock breech system" all about? What is it?

    • Donald from USA asked:

I have a .22 cal ASP 20 and I'm having trouble getting the Sig Sauer WRAITH pellets and also the H&N Baracuda Match and the Crosman Domed Ultra Magnum Pellets to seat in the breach, I have to force them down wit something hard. But the JSB EXACT JUMBOs work just fine and shoot well. Has anybody else had a problem similar to this?

      • Steven from USA:

Yes, I have the same problem. I ended up using a .308 cartridge for seating the pellets. I only have about 500 pellets through it, all kinds, and it does seem to be getting easier. My best pellet at 55 yards was the JSB's.
