Perfect for 10 meter basement range. Right out of the box putting shots right on. Single pump, single shot, target sights.
Things I would have changed:Make the bolt a little longer, better leverage for my big fingers.
What others should know:Great rifle for the money. Again perfect for my basement range.

for this price, the platform is good. Weight is ok. This rifle can be multipurpose or specific. I use it for 10 meter indoor range. It is quiet and easy to cock. Length of pull is fair for an adult (me). The barrel is well made which means accuracy is very good.
Things I would have changed:The open sight is poor quality. I will upgrade using an ADE adjustaable iron sight front and rear. The diopter sight set included looks Chinese made and is not match grade. I would upgrade to a scope. The trigger and bolt is plastic. I would change to a resin for smoother action.
What others should know:The 953 is the economy model, very basic. I use a mid 7 grain wadcutter on my range but this will throw light and heavy (8 grain) pellets well enough. For me, it is a solid practice 10 meter air rifle. I compare it to my Anshultz match rifle and I find it performs pretty close but is not a match gun. This is a good deal.

I .purchased the Daisy Powerline 953 TargetPro pellet rifle w/target sights for my seven year old grandson so his father could teach his son how to safely handle and shoot a firearm indoors in there basement.. They live in a large metro area where shooting a firearm out of doors is prohibited. The Daisy Powerline 958 TargetPro pellet rifles has all the charterstices of a classic cartridge target firearm without the high cost of ammo and the associated dangers and limitations of indoor shooting. I have coached in a 4-H youth shooting program for a number of years and I believe a quality pellet rifle is the very best way to start a young shooter on the path to a safe and productive enjoyment of the sport of shooting .

5-round clip, so easy to use and very convenient. Solid built.
Things I would have changed:The original fiber optic sights are garbage. The rear sight is too close to the eye and you cannot make a clear view, and have to use screw driver to adjust it. I prefer a flat top traditional front sight, and remove the fiber optic from both front and rear sight, it would be easier to aim. The target sights in this kit is all right, though kind of heavy. I hope they can put Daisy 853's front and rear sights on it and reduce the price for the whole kit.
What others should know:I found that my 953's barrel is misaligned from the receiver. With iron sight it is ok, but I had to adjust my scope very hard to use a scope. And I don't know if the misalignment has any effect on the grouping. With the target sight from target kit, I can achieve half inch group for 5 round for best groups. With the scope the group is not much better. I never reached below 0.3 inch 5 round at 10 meters, most time it is still around 0.5 inches for best groups, some even bigger to around 0.7 inch. I bought a used Daisy 853. with the 853, the first time I shot five 5-round groups at 10 meter using the same scope and same pellets, every group was a single hole around 0.20 inch (from edge to edge). So, my conclusion is for target shooting, with the same money, get a used Daisy 853, which is a better shooter. Now my 953 is just for plinking, because the 5-round clip is so cool.

Accurate, light, no recoil, quiet. The 5 shot magazine works great. I experienced no jams as others have reported. Rifle is well built.
Things I would have changed:The peep sight hole should be larger. I would also increase the velocity to 600 fps.
What others should know:I found the peep sight hole too small to use. I opened it up with a 5/64 drill bit. I have no problem hitting a 3" diameter can at 80 ft every time. The best group so far at 10 yards is 1/2" using Crosman 8gr supermatch. Four shots went into one hole with one opening the group to 1/2". This gun is more accurate than I am. With Crosman 7.3 pointed pellets 10 shots had a high of 477 fps low of 462 fps, averaging 462 fps. Crosman 8 gr supermatch gave a high of 445 fps low of 421 fps, averaging 433 fps. Daisy 7.3 gr pointed gave a high of 484 fps low of 454 fps, averaging 466 fps. The supermatch pellets were the most accurate with Daisy being the least. A lot of gun for the money.

very accurate and consistent shooter
Things I would have changed:make a provision for a sling. The front peep sight had to be modified to fit as the sight has a flat receiver and the barrel is round, therefore the sight would not lock down until it was filed slightly to accommodate this.

I've shot over 1000 pellets in this gun in 3 weeks and I'm a serous shooter and it will put all the pellet in the same hole at 10 meters . I've shot peeps in matches for 30 years and these are super only the rear aperture hole needed to be open up for my old eyes . I and don't want a high dollar gun at age 72 anymore and these gun is as good as it gets .
Things I would have changed:The trigger could be better or adjustable . I've said that with high dollar guns too . .

Accuracy is GREAT!!!! I put a scope on it because there was no rear sight in the box, & wow it just kept putting pellet after pellet in same ragged hole. stock extensions, one pump power-up
Things I would have changed:stock extensions could follow the outline of the stock better. A fit & finish issue.
What others should know:The rear sight was missing from the box. I called immediately. I called again 10 days later, they said give it another week. It is now 22 days later & still no sight. I left a phone message 2 days ago with no response. Where oh where can my little sight be:) If not for the sight problem this might have been a 5 overall rating.

Sweet little tack driver. Can shoot clover leafs all day long with this one. Target sights are very precise (but very dim). Fit and finish is pretty good for the price. A lot of plastic, but it seems like decent plastic. Trigger is manageable with even just some lube.
Things I would have changed:Maybe include some stock spacers for 'adult size' use. Maybe create a model between the 953 and it's higher priced siblings that includes a little nicer stock and a little better trigger.
What others should know:Accuracy is really top notch with the Target Sights, but is really too dim for indoor range use (for my taste anyway). I ended up drilling out the diopter to 1/8" which did help quite a bit without hurting the precision. However I did end up adding a 6x BugBuster (which looks perfect on this little rifle) to wring the last little bit of accuracy out of the gun. I 'may' return to the Target Sights at some point if I ever set up an outdoor range, something just 'feels right' about shooting this little target rifle as intended, with precision open sights.

I have only shot around 50 pellets so far, I am pleased with it's operation. I like the single stroke cocking and the clip feeding and especially the Made in the USA. I believe for my purposes of informal target shooting, it will serve me.

Price, Quality and Accuracy. With the target sights this rifle shoots like a high end piece. With a few adjustments to windage and elevation I am shooting dime size patterns at 28 feet (the farthest I can shoot in my garage).
Things I would have changed:Nothing, except I added a Pachmyer recoil pad to lengthen the stock to fit my frame. Loading single pellets can be tricky, you have to line them up carefully or they jam.
What others should know:Purchase the extra five round magazines when you order the rifle, hard to find in stores.

Great value for the money. Easy to cock. A great training gun for adult or supervised youngster.
Things I would have changed:The trigger is o.k. but if you are going to get serious, you'll want a better trigger. For the price though, you cannot expect a match grade trigger.
What others should know:If you want the best accuracy use match grade pellets. So far this one likes Avanti Diablo, but I have not tried a wide variety. So far the best 10 meter score I have shot is a 94 from the standing position out of a 100 possible. It's a great starter gun before you decide to move up.

the exact same set up as the higher end models but without the Lothar Walther barrel. Ease of changing various parts. A good feel to it. The hollow stock holds my cleaning kit perfectly. The target sight is ok for this level. Quiet for indoor shooting.
Things I would have changed:A weight to fit on the inside of the butt plate, the balance is a bit light on the butt end. The trigger and bolt are plastic which is ok but maybe resin instead. The target sight aperture is small for rifle work. I probably will change out to a peep later.
What others should know:This is a great little practice rifle. I use it as a 10 meter gun for my indoor range. The accuracy is pretty good but keeping the bore clean brings improvement. I use clean pellets. Some of the lesser expensive ones are pretty dirty out of the tin. The plastic globe sight is ok but looks flimsy. At this price, it is a good deal.

This is almost identical to my Daisy 753 I bought 30 yrs ago through the NRA, except for the adjustable stock and being a single shot only & of course the Lother Walther barrel. This rifle design is sturdy, accurate and dependable. I bought this rifle mostly to tinker with because I knew it was an accurate platform to begin with. I wanted to mount a scope right away, yet I opted for the target sight version so I could use the sights later or on another rifle.
Things I would have changed:For the price, nothing. This is a great rifle to start with. Cocking this rifle isn't as bad as some might think. I was 15yrs old when I got my 753. Just try different technics with leverage and you'll be fine. At my local club I shoot 20-5 shot groups in 2 hours for score and am not fatigued. As far as the trigger, polishing the hammer and sear to a shine does wonders. Also, this is only for experienced shooters who tinker. I found most of the things on the internet useful when it comes to the 953 and it's variants but what made the most difference in my 1.25lbs trigger pull was the removal of the spring just in front of the trigger "the lawyers spring". Chats with my local gunsmith and testing show it is still indeed SAFE & effective. The rear spring is strong enough to hold the sear.
What others should know:I mounted a custom Tasco 8-40 power scope that adjusts down to 5 yards in parallax. The 10m NRA target almost fills the 50mm exit lens. Using H&N sport pellets, caliper measured groups of .18-.21 for my past 10-5 shot groups, benched; I believe, speaks volumes as to the accuracy of this Daisy 953 and it's stock barrel. By the way, if you're shooting for group size adjust you're scope so you don't shoot out your point of aim, I prefer my group to land up & to the right while aiming at the 10 ring. I think I'm going to buy another Daisy 953!

It's silly accurate, doesn't care what you feed it, and doesn't need frequent or thorough cleaning. Noise level is suitable for indoor shooting without ear protection. I also like the five-shot clips.
Things I would have changed:The trigger is gritty, with a long pull. You can get used to it, but I think Daisy should improve it. The cocking lever is shorter than it could be for comfort. The fiber-optic iron sights are awful.
What others should know:Use the cheapest pellets you can buy for this gun; it doesn't care. I've put bent pellets in and they shoot as straight as the perfect ones. I bought a tin of RWS R-10 lights with my rifle, and it actually shoots straighter with cheap Crosmans or even cheaper Daisys. Buy extra clips. If you wear glasses, you may want to remove the rubber eyecup from the rear sight. Also, that tiny pinhole doesn't let much light in, so you'll need lots of light on your target to see it. After mounting the diopter sights, I found that when I cocked it, my fingers were hitting the big plastic mounting nut that holds the rear sight on. I replaced it with a jam nut and an acorn nut (size M-4 metric). Don't try to hunt with this, except for maybe small birds at close range. I doubt it could humanely kill anything bigger than a chipmunk.

Just like everyone says, this'll shot one jagged hole all day at 10 meters with most pellets. Not my prettiest rifle, but my most accurate.
Things I would have changed:Trigger could be much better, but can be made much better with easy fixes found on the internet.
What others should know:You won't have any more fun at this price.

I really like the peep sites really works great. Very accurate, nice weight. I would recommend it.
What others should know:I kind of got long arms and to pull it into my shoulder and keep both arms on the table I'll have to look for a thicker or bigger recoil pad to screw on, or see if there is a slip on recoil pad.
