i own the .177 version.i like the size, weight,& balance of this mod 87. the trigger on my 87 is better than all my other hatsans. the adjustable comb comes in handy & i have mine lifted about 3/8". this rifle does right around 900fps w/ CHP's & is very accurate w/ them. over time this has become my go to gun for pest birds. this mod 87 is capable of taking out birds @ 30-40 yards, maybe even 50 yards. i dont even remember exactly why i purchased a mod 87.(i think pyramyd was out of stock of another mod i was interested in). all i can say is i'm not sorry i did. this .177 mod 87 w/ a 3-9x32 hammers scope is very impressive.
Things I would have changed:add the larger scope mount rail like the mod 125 & mod 135 to accept standard rifle scope mounts. if this was available in a .22 that would do 900fps i'd buy it but i really dont want to drop into tho 700fps range on a .22.
What others should know:maybe i just got lucky & got a great gun but i'm very happy w/ this mod 87 .177. the size, weight, & balance of this mod 87 has made it one of my favorites of around 8 break barrels. i continue to grab this one when those pesky black birds & pigeons start to come back around & it takes care of the problem.

Hard hitting,accurate,front/ rear sights and very backyard friendly.
Things I would have changed:The scope it comes with needs needs to be replaced I have a mantis scope on mine and now very clear when looking down range
What others should know:Order replacement scope at the same time you order rifle.

The trigger is good.
Things I would have changed:Make it accurate
What others should know:I have the .22 version. I have shot around 500 pellets through it at 25 yards. About the best it will do is a 2" group. I have tried several good quality brands. I used a chronograph today and had about 130 extreme spread in 10 shots. I'm not sure what is going on? I like the trigger. It is much louder than I thought it would be. Not quiet at all. I have seen good reviews so maybe mine is a lemon.

I like the trigger.
Things I would have changed:I have the .22 version. I have tried several different pellets at 25 yards. An overall average group is about 2-1/2 inches. Not good. Maybe there is something wrong with mine. I have checked bolts, tried different holds, and many different pellets. Also, it is loud. Not quiet at all.
What others should know:It looks good and has a good trigger. Maybe mine is just a lemon. I have had other Hatsans and have been happy with them.

The open fiber optic sites work well for me. Out of the box, the trigger seems to be perfect. I am having great success shooting this gun. It is not too heavy and it is not difficult to cock. I really like the gas spring. The power seems to be very consistent.
Things I would have changed:I would liked to have a hood over the front site for cocking purposes. I might change the rough edges on the knurled nut on the end of the barrel.
What others should know:Accurate, great shooter, medium weight cocking, and not too heavy. I have enjoyed shooting this gun.

solid feel, quiet, powerful, shock absorber system, nicely finished, decent trigger, good value
Things I would have changed:make it available without a scope. (I immediately upgraded the scope to the Leapers UTG 3 - 9 x 40AO with illuminated reticle) Might have some trigger work done on it
What others should know:This is a hefty, solidly-made airgun, and my first gas piston rifle. Out of the box, it felt stiff to cock, but has improved significantly after a couple of hundred shots. The open sights are good, but could use a little more space on each side of the front sight (i.e. a slightly wider notch) but this is only a minor issue, and the lighting in my basement didn't really let me take full advantage of the fiber optics.
The gun is remarkably quiet, even though it's pushing a 22-cal pellet at around 800 fps, thanks to the QE system. I had a hard time removing the cap on the muzzle to clean the barrel (first thing I do with a new gun), and later found it wasn't intended to be removed (lots of Loctite), so cleaning requires a long straight rod that can be maneuvered past the baffles. I had to wrap something around the cap and use a plier; and of course the plier slipped and chewed the knurling. Planning to drill a small, shallow hole on either side of the center hole and make a spanner

This rifle is accurate, reliable, and has plenty of power for what I intend to use it for. Its relatively easy to cock for an average strength adult.
Things I would have changed:The bundled scope could use some improvement. The 3-9x Optima scope doesn't have any parallax adjustment on it. I replaced it with a Tasco 2.5-10x 42mm Target/Varmint scope and it works well on this rifle.
What others should know:I ordered this rifle with the 10 for $10 and that is well worth the money spent. It seems to like the Crosman Premier 14.3gr Hollowpoints just fine although I haven't had a chance to try many other pellets in it yet. I will though as time and money permit.

800 fps with .22 lead pellets hit hard. The gun is very accurate and very well made for the most part (except for the rear sight) and it's nice looking. The polymer stock can take a beating.
Things I would have changed:The rear sight is by far the Achilles Heel of this gun. It is flimsy, cheap, and mine is loose. Mine can easily be wiggled side to side about 1/16". If I push it to the right, its dead on. Push it to the left, not so much. I ordered a Red DOT reflex sight to eliminate this problem. For a couple reasons, you will not want to use the scope that comes with the rifle.Eye relief is almost non-existent and its not very clear. The supplied manual has little useful information and does not say how to disassemble, clean or oil the gun. There is no parts list
What others should know:The Model 87 is relatively big and heavy at 7.5 lbs (although it feels heavier). The first 10-20 times you break over the barrel, you will really have to "frown-up on it", but after that is gets easier. The adjustable stock might be nice for some shooters or those who like a high scope mount, but for me, cranked all the way down is perfect. There is a dovetail base for scope/sight mounting. If Hatsan would address the cheesy rear sight and eliminate the scope (for a lower price) this would be a great gun.

There is definitely quality built into this rifle. It's sturd, tough, and has all the features that I was looking for. It hits hard and has settled down with only about 50 rounds. When I want another airgun Hatsan will definitely be at the top of the list.
Things I would have changed:A better scope would be nice, one with a Mil-Dot reticle would be nice. No issues with the rifle itself.
What others should know:Definitely get the ten for ten deal. I did and this is my first order from Pyramyd Air, but absolutely will not be the last.

The increased accuracy due to shorter 10.5in barrel
Things I would have changed:Don't advertise it as quiet air. Sound supressors do not work on air piston or spring powered guns. The noise comes from the mechanics of the gun not the expansion of air like on PCPs, which supressors work very well.
What others should know:Don't get it if you think it is going to be quieter then any other air piston rifle. Do get it if your looking for an increase in accuracy. By going down to 10.5in one doesnt loose any power with a springer or air piston, but does get the pellet out of the barrel quicker to reduce the negative effects of recoil. There really is no need for longer barrels in these category of guns. The muzzle break sticks out another 8 or so inches, so there is plenty if leverage to cock the gun. Can't wait until the other Hatsan break barrels with the new shorter barrels make it here. This is the most accurate Hatsan break barrel I own.

It's fairly quiet, good power.
Things I would have changed:I ordered the 87 qe with the 10 for 10 service. On my second shot I noticed the the shroud had twisted to one side. I find it hard to believe that this was missed in a ten shot inspection. It has me questioning if it really was inspected. The shroud is attached to the barrel by a compression system. This allows it to twist on the barrel. I'm very disappointed that this was not caught in the inspection service.
What others should know:Think twice about this gun. I will have to figure out a way to lock the shroud to the barrel. No sense in sending it back. They are all going to be attached the same way with the potential for failure.

A solid close range garden defender. I bought this rifle with hopes it would be a quiet, accurate, short length rifle I can shoot in my backyard without drawing attention. It definitely fit the bill. Build quality is nice, comb is excellent. I tested accuracy after 200 shots. Setup was 15 yards on a bag with a UTG red dot sight. For lead I tested the JSB Jumbo 13.43, Crosman Premier Hollow Point and H&N Sniper Light. For alloy I tested the H&N Barracuda Green and the H&N Field Target Trophy Green. The JSB Jumbo 13.43 made a shotgun pattern and just never grouped well. The Crosman made sub-quarter size groups but fit very tight and awkward in the breech. The H&N Sniper Light were the best shooting with consistent dime sized groups. The H&N Field Trophy Green were on par with the Sniper Light in accuracy but much faster and a bit quieter. JSB Jumbo 13.43_763 fps_17ft-lbs CPHP_745 fps_17ft-lbs H&N Sniper LT_760fps_18ft-lbs H&N FT Green_960fps_19ft-lbs
Things I would have changed:A picatinny rail option would be great.
What others should know:Solid build but I had one small issue. The barrel lock got very tight after 100 shots and it really took some force to get it to close and lock. Per Pyramyd support a couple drops of oil broke it free and it was good to go.
Picky with pellets but once you get the right one its very accurate. QE silencer is great and really seems to help with report. Hold sensitive but not as bad as others I've shot. Trigger is like any other Quattro, smooth just a little long.
$10 for 10 always worth it.

Gun is really powerful and I'm glad I went with one of these Hatsan QE's (bought the .22 cal version). The only thing loud is the pellets hitting the wooden stop behind the target! Well, not as quiet as one would expect (not like the movies with real guns). Still that mechanical noise, but I'm still really satisfied! Just sighted in the stock scope for 10-15 yards and all seems to be accurate and consistent. Also sighted in the iron sights since that's pretty nice under good lighting conditions. Been shooting with 18gr .22 JSB's and groupings come pretty close (less than an inch) at 10-15 yards. Well built/slightly weight to it, but not bad at all. Very accurate and consistent with what JSB's so far.
Things I would have changed:Offer a scope with parallax adjustment for long distance. Trigger wiggles a little from side-to-side. Doesn't affect my shooting at all, just feels a little fragile.
What others should know:Slight kick for first time owners/beginner of gas-piston/.22 air rifles. A bit more than a .22lr rifle.
