Description

The R1 sports a beech stock. And the steel has been carefully and expertly machined to make sure your rifle functions flawlessly. This gun will become an heirloom.

Conservatively rated at 950 fps in .177 cal., that's just right for most shooting disciplines. If you plan to hunt with the R1, the .20 or .22 cal. would be a better choice. The extra power in the larger calibers was not an afterthought when the gun was designed, so you'll be able to harness all the energy you need from bigger and heavier pellets.

The deep 11mm dovetail grooves ensure that your mount and scope remain intact through years of use.

Don't forget to pick up a variety of recommended pellets, which are listed under the AMMO link. Select appropriate accessories, including targets and a hunting scope, by clicking on the ACCESSORIES link.

Right-hand and left-hand stocks are available!

The Beeman R1 is a powerhouse among spring-piston air rifles. Whether you plink, pop paper targets or hunt critters, the R1 fills the bill.

The Rekord trigger, universally accepted as one of the finest on the market, is fully adjustable and delivers ultimate control. The breakbarrel mechanism is smooth and reliable, and the safety engages automatically when the gun is cocked.

Includes 1" scope rings, medium profile, vertical scope stop in one ring, 2 screws per base & 4 screws per ring cap.

I purchased my R1in 1987. I still shoot the rifle for pest control and just having fun plinking. It's very accurate. I've maintained it properly and it shoots .177 caliber pellets very fast and hard hitting on those pesty raccoons. I'm considering adding another Beeman to my collection but in the. 22 caliber. I highly recommend Beeman products and its fun to experiment with different makes of pellets from Beeman.

Tuning the rifle to reduce vibration and if it was possible to squeeze more f.p.s. out the muzzle.

For shooting thousands of pellets from a thirty year old air rifle. You just can't beat investing in a Beeman. I've allowed friends to shoot it and even squirrel hunted with it and been laughed at and made fun of using an air rifle when other hunters are shooting their noisy rimfire rifles and shotguns and I come out of the woods carrying my legal daily limit of squirrels and rabbits. Air rifles are very powerful and a proven tool. My R1 helped my shooting skills increase. Those skills carried me through combat patrols as a scout sniper. I've trained my kids with this rifle and they usually argue whose turn it is to shoot when hunting small game.

this gun absolutely best looking gun I ever saw, and it shoots just as good as it looks. If you're serious about air guns then you should have this airgun in your collection. I bought this gun to shoot squirrel in my garden and now i'm disappointed that i ran out of squirrels to shoot. even my neighbors are out of squirrels. n&n ftt 5.53 pellets work really well in this gun. and one more thing trigger is absolutely amazing

bring power level to 20 foot pounds

if your looking for high end airgun that shoots accurately and makes everyone lust over it when they see it and get to shoot it, then this is a gun you want

eugene Mar 28, 2017

Thanks for advice, I installed a v-mach kit on my rifle and I'm getting 820-830 fps with h&n ftt 14.66 pellet and and accuracy is outstanding

Paul Jan 24, 2017

You could get it tuned with a Vortek PG2 kit and it will shoot a smooth 20FPE in .22cal. Actually 19.5 in mine had a total deviation of 1FPE for ten shots. Great gun.

This rifle is extremely accurate. With a .177 caliber, and blue ribbon SS1 2.5x7 scope, I was able to shoot approximately 200 feet accurately. I was shooting quarter size steel targets. I had no idea this rifle was that accurate. Incredible.

The rifle is a bit heavy but what do you expect with a wooden stock. Not good for some kids... I hunted with a Diana RWS as an adolescent so these are still useable for older children.

Yeah. Buy this firearm(AIRGUN) and you wont need another.

In several states, NJ specifically, anything that launches a metallic projectile is classified as a firearm. I need to have the same paperwork and do the same background checks for air rifles and pistols as I do for a .30-'06 rifle or a Glock 45ACP. The epitome of bureaucratic wonderfulness.

Edith Oct 23, 2014

Just for the record and to be completely accurate and to avoid confusion, airguns are not firearms. Firearms use an explosive powder to expel a projectile. Airguns do not.

This well made precision German rifle is very accurate and sufficiently powerful. Not at all too difficult to cock, and hold while shooting.

The only issue I experienced was the metal trigger guard loosened up relatively soon after finishing firing only 200 rounds of pellets. I had to use some Loc-Tite to keep the trigger guard firmly secure.

The way it is put together - it oozes quality from every angle - and the way it performs.

The stock - I wish they went back to the more expensive but more appropriate Monte Carlo stock design.

This gun is an example of workmanship and quality. It is superbly accurate, enough that you can use it in target competition. In 22 it delivers more power than the HW90, but with much greater accuracy, less noise, and more reliability. The trigger is superb. The barrel lock is extremely solid. The cocking effort is very reasonable. If only the stock comb were higher.

I got my R1 in .22cal today its beautiful right out of the box tipical HW/beeman quality, this one seems well lubed already no spring noise, it is not at all hold sensitive, very mild recoil. I had it zeroed at 12yds in 6 shots and rezeroed at 30yds in less than 20 with a leepers 3x9x40ao mildot scope and an RWS lock down mount. It is already shooting a ragged hole with cphp's at 30yds and I've only fired 30rnds thru the rifle so the best is yet to come with this one. Mark 611

this is a very solid rifle but alittle heavy my HW95 has spoiled me on that.

This is a great air rifle alittle expensive but well worth it for the quality you get, this is a gun for a life time smooth cocking very accurate and well made. These HW/Beeman airguns are the top of the mountian in my book I have several of them and ya can't beat 'em

I bought my R1 in 1987. I was managing a facility that had hundreds of nesting pigeons. The pigeon removal contractors wanted ~$500 and the R1 was ~$300, so I got the R1 and cleared out the roosting birds. Since then it has kept the rabbits from over-running the garden, reduced the squirrel population and once, in a shot I will always remember, killed a woodchuck with a single headshot at almost 75 yards. (an anomaly, most woodchucks seemed to shrug off the pellet) In all that time accuracy has been great. I keep waiting for seals to dry up or something, but it just keeps ticking. One of my favorite 'firearms' of any type.

as others have said, this is a grown-up adult airgun, with significant cocking force, and it's heavy, even more so with scope. But when you shoot from a rest the weight becomes a positive. I just sighted in a new scope last weekend and zeroed it at 25 yards. At 50 yards it drops about 3"

Edith--thanks! It's killing me that I can't shoot my R-1! I woke up blind in my right eye years ago--now the VA is saying that I'll never see well in that eye again...No problem, I picked up a beeman p-17 pistol--great fun and a tad more affordable [ :)]. So, what to do with my r-1? I've heard that the vintage ones from W. Germany are more collectible...I saw one for sale on Ebay [I think!?] they wanted almost 1600 bux for their r-1. Does this seem reasonable? They sell new for 8-something...and that's the elite! I'm thinking of asking 650 for mine--with scope, soft-padded bag, one hardshell case, strap and some ammo [?] Any takers?

Edith Dec 10, 2013

Steve--The R1 is just the gun, while the R1 Elite is the gun plus a scope & mount. That's the only difference. Your R1 should have a serial number somewhere. The R1 used to come with iron sights, but apparently the vast majority of R1 buyers scope their guns, so the iron sights were eliminated.

steve Dec 10, 2013

I know there should be some difference between the R-1 and the R-1 Elite model but I'm at a loss at what that is...I mean on this site they have the same U-Tube type review for both...I'm a newbie [or, rather a re-born] air-gun enthusiast so take it easy on me [please]. I just picked up an R-1 used, it was used, broke somehow and left to die--I brought it back by having it fixed with the Pyramyd guys--who have done a bang-up job, btw and I would like to determine the pedigree on mine. I don't think they know mine was equipted with a Bushnell Banner scope AND it has some very fine open sights as well!? Also, I haven't seen any serial numbers--is this because they're not there? Thanks

I just received my Beeman R1 I bought used. It is so beautiful, I am afraid to take it outside. But I did and it is so smooth and easy to use. This belongs in a glass case on a wall. What perfection in design, manufacture and performance. On a recent Air Gun Forum a discussion was about comparing a RWS 48 to a Beeman R1. One said.." The Beeman R1 is twice the price, and three times the gun" I had a RWS 48. The remark is spot on. Buy an R1. It will hold its value, a sign of its true worth. Pete

Tom's latest Blog on this all time classic calls it the '57 Chevy of Air Guns. Time marches on, and now the standard flag carrier of Air Rifles is the very desireable Air Arms TX200 MkII. Still, I have a used Beeman R1 on it way to me. Always wanted one. And this classic will hold its value into the future. The Rekord trigger alone is a reason to own a Beeman R1 SuperMagnum.. Pete

I should have rated the R1 a long time ago, since I wrote the book on it! A lot of new air rifles have come since the R1 was new back in the 1980s, but it is still a rifle to consider when you want the best! The size is quite large, and it fits me better than a lot of the newer rifles. The stock is very wide and hand-filling, yet the pistol grip feels just right. The wood is finished with a dull matte finish that can be hand-rubbed to a brilliant shine over time. The bluing is deep and even. The scope-mounting platform is a classic among spring rifles. The power is good, but the rifle is easy to tune and I wrote a 13-part blog report on how to tune it. The Rekord trigger is a marvel of precision and easy to adjust to perfection.

I would change nothing about the R1. The fact that it is so easy to tune makes it one of the most adaptable air rifles on the market. It can go from 13 foot-pounds to 22 foot-pounds in just a few hours of careful work.

This is a large air rifle that is harder to cock than most adults will prefer. The effort is over 40 pounds when new and about 36-38 pounds after 1,000 shots. It can be tuned down to cock with less force, but will also shoot with less energy. Due to the size and power potential of the rifle, I recommend getting it in .22 caliber.

Edith May 27, 2014

Ernest--I asked Tom Gaylord (he wrote the review you're referencing) if 34 lbs. cocking effort is correct, and he said 34-36 lbs. cocking effort. So, I'm going to increase the cocking effort on this gun to 36 lbs. so it's on the top end. If it's lower than that, then it'll be a happy surprise.

Ernest May 25, 2014

PA specs. show the cocking force to be 34 lbs. which is not what you report. This number is a determining factor for purchase, so which is it ?

Lee Mar 09, 2013

I have the Rx-1 in.20 cal and have taken many groundhogs with one shot, I think the .20 cal. Is highly overlooksd and could be one of the best cal. Out there

William May 14, 2011

I had an R-1 in the 80's and it exceeded the 100yd accuracy with a Redfield scope attached. First it's recoil destroyed Tasco, and every other cheap scope I put on it. We had a million starlings and jays that got the cherry tree out put, but eventually the tree got to eat all the birds.

tom May 13, 2011

i am thinking of buying one of these but $599 is alot of money and would like to know the accuracy at 50-100 yards before such a large investment what is the accuracy with Beeman Kodiak match 21.1 grain pellets

Peter Feb 14, 2011

Weight, size, quality, everything Tom points out is spot on ! I had an R1 ( .177) that at my age was just too much to handle. Cocking was just at my limit. Quality was superb, It was so smooth, I thought it was broken ! Cocking was smooth, firing was smooth.Ii found out it was chrony at 800 with RWS SuperDomes, my go to pellets.

Powerful, accurate, beautiful. Great trigger. Very smooth firing action. Classic.

If anything at all, just to make it a little lighter :) This is one heavy monster!

I waited for 25 years before I finally got one of these, kept running away from the price. I wish I had just saved my money from a few other guns that I bought instead and bought this earlier! I will NEVER sell this gun.

I have had mine (.177) for 23 years now and it still looks brand new. The firing action smoothed out after firing a few tins. It is also easy to cock once you get used to the motion. Very accurate with the Ram Jet pellets. The stock also has a nice color and form. Bluing and metal work is beautiful. The trigger is nice and smooth (I prefer two-stage triggers.) Definitely a gun that will outlast you when taken care of.

Rear trigger guard screw loosens occasionally; no other problems.

This gun is not cheap but you get the quality you pay for. When properly taken care of this gun will last YEARS and thousands of rounds. Not necessarily the best first-time gun or for smaller people (young teenagers.)
