10 of 25 Benjamin Prowler Air Rifle Reviews
2020 model has excellent suppressor. It can push Rabbit Magnum IIs over an inch into seasoned 6x2 board at 33 feet ...Accurately. Terminators are obscenely accurate in my Prowler. Everything air gun nuts want for $ 99.00.
Things I Would Have ChangedI chose to get used to the trigger. Its still spot on what I aim at.
What Others Should KnowBreak in aided by spring cylinder oil.
Get one before Crosman find out they overdid it!
I love this gun! it needs a good UTG scope and the barrel must be cleaned before you start to see how really good this thing is.I found the H&N Hornets .22 16.20gr were a laser on this thing at 25 yards all though it shot just about every pellet very well
Things I Would Have ChangedThe trigger! I had to take it out and polish and grease the sear pin and then it was fine but you can shoot it as is for the money it's a small issue.
What Others Should KnowJust a very accurate rifle for a very good price and its a .22! so its great for chipmunks and squarells or just practicing you target skills.I really enjoy shooting this thing.
It's weighty enough to make controlling it easy. It's got medium power. It actually feels like a real gun, not these toy things. This is a pretty decent little pesting, plink, trainer gun.
Things I Would Have ChangedI really cannot ask for much at The $99 price point that I got mine from Walmart. I literally walked past it on sale and made an impulse buy. I'm glad I did.
What Others Should KnowDon't even try the scope that comes with it save your time. Buy some accushot mounts and buy a decent scope and you will be satisfied. My positive experience comes from a big box purchased 22 cal Chinese made weapon. I've waited over a year to review this. I've put over 2000 pellets through it. Super sorry about buddies problems, but I haven't had anything come loose, fall off or malaligned. Mine's been on numerous outdoor excursions, it's been rained on. I have not treated it like royalty and it's still functions flawlessly.
Absolute powerhouse in this price range. I was reaching out to 85 yards in .22 cal. and it smacked dirt HARD. Fantastic accuracy once it's broken in.
Things I Would Have ChangedGood God THE TRIGGER!!!! Crosman seriously needs to take this one back to committee. The model I picked up from Wally World (2020) requires removing the trigger guard to adjust. I just let it be and forced myself to get used to it.
What Others Should KnowDon't use a light grip with your trigger hand. Firm up, and get on that scope. It's going to jump, so break yourself of any flinching reflex while practicing. Took me approximately 150 shots to break in. The stock scope is not as bad as some have written elsewhere, but bring your allen wrenches to the range just in case (the mounts came loose a couple times but they're holding steady now).
Excellent .22 cal pellet rifle for the money imo. Installed an older Simmons 3-9x40 scope on it. Had a 3 inch group @ 10yds in the first 7 shots. Only using it for back yard critters, so probably never need to sight it in beyond 25 yds.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing!
What Others Should KnowThe rubber muzzle break on the end of the barrel is actually JUST a rubber grip for cocking aide & is easily pulled off by hand with a little wrist strength! Did go over the gun & make sure that all screws were snugged tight.
Reliability, Accuracy, Power, Consistency.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing, it's the best you can probably get for this price range.
What Others Should KnowThere are a lot of complaints about the provided scope and rings, in fact that's why I decided to review this here as I bought mine from walmart. If you install them correctly they will work perfectly. There's a hole on the top of the rail, you need to line one of the rings (the one with 2 screws) up with this, and use the hex tool provided to tighten down the set screw from the ring into that hole. Also use locktite. I shot 259 times after zeroing it in, and it still groups dime sized at 30 yards, right on target. Held zero excellently. Yes the scope feels cheap, but install it correctly and it will likely work perfectly for you up to 40 yards or so. After that the fixed 4x zoom and the picture quality cause a few problems. The prowler is known to kill scopes, because people put rifle scopes that aren't designed for the unique recoil characteristics of a spring/NP air gun. The one provided will hold up fine. If not, they send you a new one free anyways, so at least try it first.
Price point is good enough to get a person started into air gun shooting/hunting. Rifle is well balanced, powerful, and very accurate if the shooter does their part properly. The scope is a basic optic, again allowing one to get into the air gun game with little cost. Mine was spot on after attaching.
Things I Would Have ChangedPerhaps offer a bolt on moderator or incorporate sling attachments as most people will not use the scope for long if at all.
What Others Should KnowThis gun is LOUD. With no moderation, lighter pellets crack the sonic barrier and sound like a high powered .22 LR. However using 10 grain + pellets calms the noisy beast and provides plenty of knock down power for squirrel hunting. Also when one receives one of these rifles, remove the cocking grip on the end of the barrel and check for rust spots. Mine had 3, which were all buffed out with steel wool. Also run a quality cleaner and patches down the barrel as mine were brown colored, indicating rust inside the barrel. (But only a surface bit) Several cotton patches later it was clean and ready for shooting.
Its quite and cheap priced.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe trigger, scope, and weight
What Others Should Knowthe trigger is horrible, the scope is horrible Ive replaced the scope and it still shoots like garbage. Ive tried 8 different pellets in it and still cant get a consistent group. The bolts that hold the barrel to the stock keep loosing up with every shot so it makes accuracy impossible. Gun is heavy overall and the forgrip of the stock is square and balky. Was very disappointed with this gun.
I like the power and accuracy. The included scope works pretty well. Very good value for the money. Much quieter than spring powered air rifles.
Things I Would Have ChangedAll air guns by this time should have weaver mounts! It would be nice of it could do 850FPS in .22 with Crosman Premier hollow points.
What Others Should KnowThinking about one of these? Don't hesitate!

The price. Seems to be decent quality. Heavy, which is good for rest shooting.
Things I Would Have ChangedWhat do you want for $100 ? The trigger could be designed a little better. Hard to pull in the stock fashion. I pulled out the extra spring and it took some of the pull away. Helped. You can put a lighter spring in.
What Others Should KnowThe stock scope is a toy. Won't focus. I left it in it's packaging and put an older Simmons .22 Mag 3X9X40 on the rifle. I have fired about 250 shots through it at 25 yards. It's getting better. At times it will group at a quarter to half dollar at that range for a while, then it can still be all over place occasionally. I have been using the Crossman Premier Hollows for break in. I have taken 12 nuisance squirrels, and a chipmunk with it. The chipmunk was a 20 yard shot. Probably luck more than skill. I used Gamo Red Fire for the squirrels and chipmunk. Clean the barrel often especially with Premiers. They leave alot lead behind. I have gotten after two skunks in my yard with it at 15 to 18 yards with the Gamo Red Fires and they waddle off. They are hit but doesn't seem to do much. Reality, some people say 50 to 75 yards, no.. The rifle is dependable 90% of the time out to 20 yards. The rifle is a squirrel, chipmunk and rabbit gun. Racoons and skunks would take a lucky shot to the eye
