All gas springs (gas pistons, gas rams) are NOT created equal!
The Nitro Piston 2 has it all over the original Nitro Piston and almost every other gas spring on the market. Most gas springs have a reputation of being hard to cock, but the NP2 put an end to that. According to airgun writer Tom Gaylord, it's the easiest-cocking gas piston he's ever shot.
But Crosman didn't stop the improvements there. They also improved the trigger so it feels like it's been tuned! Imagine that: A factory trigger that breaks crisp and clean. It has a significantly lighter trigger-pull, not one of those so-called "lawyer" triggers that requires Herculean strength to shoot.
As long as they were making improvements, Crosman decided to make a better and more effective integral sound suppression system that really is quiet. You'll notice an immediate difference between the report from your Nitro Piston 2 air rifle and the older Nitro Piston guns or other brands.
So, let's add up what you'll get in this great package: Easy cocking, fantastic trigger and less noise. And, it's assembled in Crosman's plant in Bloomfield, New York. While that's almost everything you could ever want, there's one more thing -- and it's really important: Accuracy. When Tom Gaylord tested a Nitro Piston 2 at an industry show, he commented that he hit everything he aimed at. Isn't that what you want to do? We thought so!
The Benjamin Trail NP2 isn't a dream -- it's a dream come true. It's here for you to enjoy, to hit everything you're aiming at, and not strain with each cock and each pull of the trigger. They've put the fun back in airgunning!
If you purchase the .22-caliber rifle, your box may state the wrong velocity with lead pellets.

It's accurate with pellets it likes (for example, it seems to be happy with the .22 Gamo Rockets); the feel of it is nice, especially the thumbhole grip; it's not very loud at all; I like the looks of it (esthetically, a nice-looking rifle); the cocking is a tiny bit rough at first, but smooths out decidedly after 120 rounds or so. Fit and finish were both good.
Things I would have changed:Plastic barrel shroud no good! No like! Replace with METAL shroud for durability! As for weight--that's not really a drawback anymore, in this day and age of affordable shooting tripods and such; in fact, more mass works out to less wobbling and slopping around when you bench it. Scope mounts--now THERE is a (relatively minor) issue: I don't dig the little wedge-shaped pinchy-type mounts that come with the rifle, because they simply don't seat straight in the grooves at the bottom of the (Picatinny?) rail on the rifle. For that, I take away one star. I will eventually investigate the possibility of using different scope-mounts, so stay tuned for further reports!
What others should know:This rifle will punk out trash pandas (raccoons) and even opossums (which are VERY tough little monsters) with the right ammo (like Gamo Rockets), so if pest control is your goal, this will do the job on anything from bad birdies to bunnies to opossums to raccoons (listed in order of increasing size.) As for target-shooting: it'll do fine, but since it's not a light rifle, you'll seriously want to consider buying or making your own shooting tripod or shooting stick.

Accuracy Quality Stock Everything!
Things I would have changed:Combined Scope
What others should know:I purchased the Benjamin Train NP2 in the wood stock. Although skeptical at first because of the flaws when it was first released I decided to give it a chance. Crosman has overcome those problems, now the NP2 is a solid gun that can stomp any other breakbarrel in its class! If you're weary of buying this gun don't be! You're missing out! The only thing I would have changed is the combined scope, plan on throwing it out and replacing it. It is manageable for plinking, but to get the most out of the gun I recommend mounting a quality scope on it. One more thing, those saying it sounds like a .22 going off do not know what they're talking about (And probably have never heard a .22 rimfire being fired.) This gun is quiet, well built, has good accuracy, and is an all around excellent air rifle! Give it a second chance you won't be sorry! I will be posting updated pictures of my groupings with my Hawke Sidewinder 30.

Where can i buy just the wood stock
Crosman is the only source, and the part # is NP214WX-450 I got a price from a friend, who got the quote from crosman in Jan '15 of $109.40. That price is 4x that of the non-NP Trail, so it's either made in the US or artificially inflated. So who knows what it is now, but if you do get a price then please post it along with date.
Call Crosman. They'd have them if they are available
I recently bought a Benjamin trail np 2 and after firing about 100 pellets the barrel seems to unscrew. Do I have a lemon or can I just retighten it?
You could try some loctite because maybe it's just unscrewing? Imo the problem is the tapered part of the shroud. It's plastic so the piston impact (aka reverse recoil) hammers that tapered piece and crushes it slightly so it's loose. All the previous models used an aluminum piece, but they cheaped out on the NP2 and we pay the price for it. It can be modded to take the load off that piece, which involves gluing or screwing the baffle to the shroud so the shroud tube is locked to the barrel and no longer crushing the tapered piece. You'd glue the part of the baffle where the threads are because the rest of the baffle has too much give. You can also try some other things to reduce the piston impact, like using heavier pellets and never seating the pellets any deeper than you would with your finger. Seating tools are a bad idea, anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand the way the gun works. Another option is modding the main seal, but too involved to get into here. A heavier scope helps a little too, it adds weight to dampen the reverse recoil. Cocking the gun also puts undue stress on it because the baffle flexes which means it tilts the taper a bit. Not much that combined with the pounding is obviously too much for it because these things break all the time. If you have a lathe you can make a taper out of alum. Unfortunately the alum tapers from the older guns don't fit because their shrouds had a smaller OD. I thought by now Crosman would've fixed this flaw, but it must be more profitable not to.
Tried that ???
Just retighten the shroud. The barrel is fused to the breech block and won't come lose.
I have an early NP in a Fury stock and mine turns too , but it just seems like the outside cover is turning? Maybe not the barrel itself ?
This is not an answer but mine does the same thing. Can feel the barrel twisting when cocking. Have read this in some other reviews about this rifle.
crazy recoil cant find one that wont fail.Leapers UTG 3-12x44 AO Rifle Scope, EZ-TAP, Ill. I would replace the main seal and be sure the breech seal isn't leaking. Leaks break scopes. Why is too much to get into here, but chevota at hotmail if you want info.
Look for something in the Hawke or leapers line with an "etched glass" reticle
