10 of 25 Daisy Match Grade Avanti 717 Triumph Match Reviews
comfortable grip,easy pump, accurate
Things I Would Have Changedplastic bolt mechanism seems out of place on a air gun like this, time will tell
What Others Should Knowdon't get me wrong, I am very happy with this purchase, the 747 price is not out of line for the adjustable trigger and upgraded barrel
Accuracy is excellent from 10 meters or less. Power is good. Cocking the pistol is very easy.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe price point for this pistol is quite high, and for the money, sights could be better, the bolt system should be metal, the grips should be of better quality, and a sight/scope mount should've been incorporated into the pistol.
What Others Should KnowZero this thing in with one particular pellet (Beeman Silver Sting in my case) and it will shoot a variety of other pellets fairly accurate without readjusting the rear sight. Read manual before shooting the pistol.
I've shot at least 500rnds of a very wide range of pellets through this pistol. I must admit, it isn't picky. It shoots just about any pellet very respectable. The best pellet so far is the H&N Match Pistol, 7.56g and RWS Superdomes. Wow, it is impressive with both of those. It's POA was consistent across the board. It didn't matter what pellet, the first shot or the 100th shot, or what temperature it was, it put every pellet in the same place on the target. One of the best characteristics of this pistol is that it also did well with cheaper pellets as well. C.Destroyers, Cosman Field point, C.P Lite, RWS H-Point were some of the best performers. The sights are a bit blockie but are easily micro adjustable for elevation and windage. I really like this pistol. I don't know how much more accurate the 747 is. I kinda wish I shelled out this extra $ to find out. Nevertheless, It's hard to imagine how much more accurate can a low velocity pistol be.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe back sight is a bit wide for my liking. Not the notch in the sight but the entire width of the sight. It's probably a 10m competition thing but the sight extends to the sides way beyond the notch. I'm nitpicking it at this point.
What Others Should KnowVery quite, low velocity. Accurate out to 25y but with a bit of holdover. Too low velocity to hunt with, target pistol only. A lot of "air space" between the notch in the back sight and the front post. The trigger is respectable, not perfect, but good. An ideal training tool that can carry over to rimfire or centerfire pistols. This pistol has made me a much better pistol marksman.
Fairly accurate and feels good in the hand. Appears to be well made.
Things I Would Have ChangedMake the rear sights out of metal. Offer wooden grips for it in place of the plastic and charge accordingly.
What Others Should KnowThe first linkage pin or bushing nearest the muzzle on the cocking arm moves up and down a little bit and at times can impede or obstruct the closing of the cocking arm (if your not careful). Also the windage adjustment on the rear sight has about a 64th of an inch of slop or movement that you need to be aware of. My Beeman P-3 is more accurate then this pistol is but considering the cost of this Powerline 717 it is a worth while investment for the money.
The feel and weight of this gun is excellent. It shoots very consistent and exceeds what I expected for the price.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe trigger and sights could be improved, though they are adequate to do the job well.
What Others Should KnowThe sales staff proved very helpful.
Straight up tack driver. Using a rest, I can put them one on top of the other. The trigger was decent right out of the box, so I never bothered adjusting it. It's much more accurate thn my 1377. Only thing that needs to be upgraded is the shooter. It's so much fun I ran out of pellets.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe bolt handle feels a little flimsy being made out of plastic. It's a little bit hard to cock the bolt. If you close it slowly, the pellet might hang up going into the chamber.
What Others Should KnowGo for it. I love shooting in my basement after a long, stressful day. I don't see the point in getting the one with the better barrel given the current accuracy I'm getting. Definitely no regrets.
I love the weight of the gun and the fact that it is a single lever pump, which is very easy on the arm. Loading the pellets is real easy compared to some guns....they just drop right in and then you close the bolt. The length of the barrel makes it easy to rest it on my rifle rest and therefore my accuracy is unbelievable.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing!
What Others Should KnowI was going to spend an extra $50.00 for the Avanti 747 but in speaking to experts, they said that unless I was going to get into competition shooting, this gun's accuracy would be more than acceptable. Boy, am I glad that I didn't spend the extra money because I can hit a 1/4" bulls eye from over 22 feet. The expert had said that this gun would "outshoot me" and he was right. I think if I had bought the more expensive gun and it was more accurate, I would get bored hitting the same hole with each and every shot.
Still made in the USA, pleasant shooting accurate air pistol. Nice adjustable trigger and sights. Quiet, recoil free, easy to use and reliable. Surprisingly long lived with minimal maintenance. Perfect for indoor practice.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe changes that I wanted back in the day were made by Daisy already!
What Others Should KnowThe Daisy 717 pistol has been around for a long time for good reason. Always a great value for the money spent, I had one back in the early 80's that I gave to a friend (who still uses it BTW). I never really found another air pistol to be so user friendly, so I purchased a new one. A pleasant surprise! Unlike so many products, this one has been improved over the years, now with an adjustable trigger made of metal (the 80's version was non adjustable and plastic). I am also pleased that the grips are now darker brown.
I have a FWB 65 match gun and this Daisy can shoot one hole groups all day for a fraction of what the FWB cost me years ago.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowI don't see the need to spend the extra on the 747 with Walther barrel, this gun is super accurate.Dont be fooled into thinking because its a Daisy match accuracy isn't there...it is.Great value.

Accuracy, easy loading, smooth easy cocking, nice trigger, micro adjustable sights. It's just nice.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing.
What Others Should KnowIf you can get past the low velocity, it's accuracy will more than make up for it.
