The Hawke Sidewinder 30 SF 4-16x50 SR Pro II Riflescope offers upgrades from its former version, starting with the improved H5 optics system, which features an outstanding 24-degree wide field of view to complement 4" eye relief. With a 30mm aluminum mono-tube and a 50mm objective lens, the Sidewinder gives a sharp picture despite poor light, and the red multi-LED reticle illumination can be activated on 6 different lighting levels. Created to accommodate use in unfavorable conditions, the fully-multicoated 18-layer glass shows clear views usually achieved only by much costlier scopes.
Both locking turrets adjust by 1/10 MRAD clicks, for elevation and windage separately, in a range of 26 MRAD, and the scope now offers a witness window for an instant visual indication of the revolution progress of the elevation turret. Parallax-free operation from 10 yards to infinity is accomplished with the side focus knob. The lenses are shockproof, fog proof, nitrogen purged, and waterproof to yield a defined picture regardless of the lighting or weather. This scope can be used on any gun, even a firearm with recoil, because of its durability.
Hawke's exclusive SR Pro II second focal plane (SFP) 1 mil reticle has accurate spacing at the 8x magnification setting, and features an illuminated central aim point and hollow posts at the outer edges of the reticle that don't block the view, in addition to range finding brackets. Each black post is marked with 1 MRAD segments. Crosses and red posts in the lower portion are marked with progressively wider gaps that mimic the greater drop of point of impact with increasing distance. The package also includes a 4" sidewheel, 4" sunshade, lens covers, lens cloth, zoom lever, and a CR2032 battery for the reticle illumination LEDs. This is the nicest scope I've ever bought--3x more expensive than ever before, and I like everything about it. The reticle is clear, and useful. I especially like the fact that the illumination turns off every other click, so you don't have to run around the dial every time. The magnification throw lever is great, as is the side wheel focus, which I've never had before. The exposed dials are easy to set, and to reset, and the index window is very helpful to see where you are in the rotations. The locking ocular adjustment is very nice, and the glass in the lens covers is the best I've ever seen, though not optical quality, I'd guess.
Things I would have changed:Haven't found anything so far.
What others should know:Out of the box, it took a full rotation of elevation to get sighted in. This left more than another rotation, but I didn't like being so far off center from the start. I put in a set of Hawke 30mm mount inserts, which added 25 MOA and got me back to center.

Everything. The illuminated reticle is more than bright enough for a sunny day and dims enough for very low light situations using no light. Also the red contrasts perfectly with a green hunting light.
Things I would have changed:Nothing
What others should know:The high mounts that Pyramid Air recommends were to high for me. They made my lite Avenger at 6 Lb. feel top heavy and I like my scopes close to the barrel. Medium mounts work perfect but now have a set of high mounts that I will never use.

The manual has no data on width of scope. Can someone measure this? Interested for finding proper gun case.
