Description
The Remington Express is their introductory air rifle for the 21st century. And it's a keeper! Get it. Shoot it. Enjoy it. The synthetic stock makes it especially useful. Let's face it: It's not always sunny when you want to shoot. Sometimes, you inadvertently drop or bump your gun. Stuff happens, which is why a synthetic stock is a good alternative to wood -- it'll stand up to conditions and treatment that wood cannot.
While most manufacturers quote their air gun velocities with super-light alloy pellets, Remington quotes them with lead pellets -- the same lead pellets you'll use in your own gun. You should be getting about the same velocities the manufacturer states.

8 of 8 Remington Express Air Rifle, Black Reviews
I like the feel of the rifle, and the fact that it was on sale at the time. My poor eyes could not do well with the iron sights, but they appeared to function and zero just fine at my test firing from 10 meters. I like the feel of synthetic stocks better than wood. This review is for the .177 version.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe supplied scope died after 100 shots. This was expected through other's reported experiences. I replaced the scope with another cheap 4-9x32 scope and found the rifle was quite a drooper. Even with elevation maxed in the upward direction the POI was 6 inches low at 10 meters. I added a plastic 3/16" shim under the scope at that at least brought the POI to the target center with the scope elevation nearly maxed.
What Others Should KnowDon't bother using the supplied 4x scope, it won't last. If my son enjoys shooting the Express between 10 and 30 yards. I'll probably order a decent True-Strength UTG for the rifle that will likely cost me as much or more that I paid for the rifle when on sale if/when the above mentioned cheap 4-9x scope fails. Still not sure if my drooping was the scope's fault, the rifle or the rings. The original rings are now securely fastened so I hesitate to change them.
this is a nice simple springer 22 air gun. the accuracy is right on with open sights out to 30 yards. it's a very fun gun to shoot. it's not too loud and not too bad of a kick.
This gun blows me away. The scope mounts that came with it are a bit sketchy (and I kinda overtightend one and bent the clamping part) so I bought a one piece mount.) I lowered the stop screw into one of the transverse groves on the receiver mounted the scope, I cleaned the barrel and started shooting. They are all very dirty and will diesel like crazy if not cleaned. I am amazed with this gun. It will stack pellets as well as any break action gun I own. 1/2" 5 shot groups at 10 meters is fairly common, it likes cheap Daisy hollow point pellets.
Things I Would Have ChangedIt could use a proper scope stop screw hole. The scope and mounts. The supplied parts detract from the rifle. They should come with a warning, they will teach you more about parallax than you ever wanted to know, especially at 10 meters
What Others Should KnowEvery disappointment I ever had with a break action air rifle has been caused by the supplied optics. I did manage to get this one to shoot well with the supplied scope, but the identical scope on my Remington Tyrant gave me fits! I changed them both out and they both went from very difficult to shoot to extremely good.
I bought the .22 version of this rifle about a month back and have put about 800 rounds through it, so it's not quite broken in yet. The piston chamber is oily at first and makes a loud report and smokes for the first couple hundred shots but it mellows out. This air rifle seems to be well built for the price and has decent amount of power. I'm still trying out different ammo for it but so far it seems to like pellets in the 14-16g weight range. Less than 14, you get alot of fly-away, more than 16 and you get like 9inches of drop at 50 yards. I am pleased with the accuracy of this rifle. I only use the iron sights, which are easy to adjust, and consistently get quarter sized groupings and same hole shots at ranges 20,25,45 and 50 yards. Im too blind to be accurate beyond 50y on iron sights and I dont know how to use a scope but I am confident that in the right hands this rifle has a much farther reach.
Things I Would Have ChangedGlue in the front fiber optic. Mine fell out almost immediately and I cant find it! :X I also had to trim up the molding seams on the stock which were kinda sharp and annoying. Oh and I would also change the safety mechanism it flat out just didnt work 50% of the time for the first 500 shots. now it engages everytime but it feels like its going to break when you use the reset lever.
What Others Should KnowSeriously, this gun sounds like a firearm the first couple times you fire it. Keep that in mind.
Excellent power (.22 caliber), comfortable grip, fiber optic (open) sights, cocking effort (definitely an adult rifle), and the trigger pull. Unlike some other high powered air rifles, the stock screws do not come loose very often, but they do need to be tightened every 200-300 shots.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe scope, as expected, is of low quality. I was concerned that the force of the recoil would damage it, so I removed it and mounted it on a low power (<450 fps) air rifle for my son.
What Others Should KnowI purchased this air rifle in .22 caliber. This is the first break-barrel air rifle that I have purchased that has a synthetic stock. When cocking the rifle, I can feel the stress in the grip area, which seems odd compared to a rifle with a wooden stock.
This gun has a long break-in period. I still experience dieseling after over 750 shots (although it does depend on the pellet).
This gun is very, very hold sensitive. I haven't determined if the standard artillery hold works the best, or if I need to modify that hold (firmer grip with the shooting hand, etc). I have yet to find the correct pellet. I have tried the following with very inconsistent and sporadic results: Crosman Premier Domed (14.3 gr), Crosman Premier Hollow Points (14.3 gr), Gamo Match Diabolo (13.8 gr), Daisy Pointed Precision Max, and RWS Superpoint Extra (14.5 gr).
The best success I have had are with the RWS Superdomes (14.5 gr), which are still not very consistent. I am able to create .75" groups at 10 meters.
Power of the .22 cal., accuracy and the fact that the gun is heavy because it helps stabilize it.
Things I Would Have ChangedMake the trigger mechanism withstand the recoil. After a session of shooting the trigger adjustment screw fell out. Make the length of pull adjustable.
What Others Should KnowIt's a budget gun with potential, you're gonna need to be patient to break it in, threadlock most of the screws and tinker with it. It seems to like crosman premier hollowpoints.
this is a real powerhouse,do like pyramydair says:buy it,shoot it,because this is a real keeper! i sure glad i did.i bought the remington express .22 synthetic.

What Others Should KnowI keep this as a back door gun in my shop to take out pests and for that reason I went with a .22 caliber. I have been shooting this gun for several years now and have never had a single issue with it. I chose to leave the open sights as I find I can get on target faster that way. This gun has awesome power and is deadly on tree rats. I have taken squirrels out to 25 yards with no problems. The synthetic stock is durable and I don't worry about scratching it. I just can't say enough good things about this gun, it is by far my favorite go to gun. This gun has been kept in my shop for years and the finish has held up very well. Just a great value all the way around.
