Saris Glide EX Bike Rack Hitch Mount, 4 Bicycle Carrier, Black

Works perfectly with the rear hatch on my Toyota Sienna.

I bought this rack several weeks ago and I am not sure I will ever take it off my SUV. It is a solid rack and very easy to operate. The arms are easily raised and lowered. But, the feature that I love the most is the extension of the rack with bikes on that allows me to open my tailgate. Amazing and so convenient. All my friends are jealous as they have to wrestle or remove with their racks or bikes to do the same. And, the blue on my Saris rack matches the blue on my BMW logo!

Although this rack does meet my requirements for bike capacity, hatch access and but in locking, it's got a few flaws that call I to question the price tag. The trigger function, while easy to use, has an annoying quirk where it gets stuck and makes a loud snapping noise to the point where you almost worry you're breaking the rack when your extending it away from your vehicle. It also seems to collect water in a collapsed position. when extended, rusty water pours out onto rack. Most recently, after only about 4 uses, the locking cable got stuck fully extended from the rack. without the ability to tuck it back into the housing, I've needed to just lock it extended so it's not flapping around while driving. While I like the racks functionality, I do worry about its construction quality and longevity. Addressing these concerns in a next generation model would make this a great rack.

The rack shows the ingenuity of Saris. It allows access to the hatch of the car for access to your items (or pets). The rack is solidly built but some of the plastic parts give me pause. The handle to release the rack for bike mounting does not inspire confidence. When the trigger is pressed so it can be released downward there is a piece of practice that gets caught and there is a collision of two pieces of plastic that over time I fear will break and expose the inside parts to the elements and premature failure. Hopefully, this does not happen. When the rack is under load my experience for it to release smoothly is to depress the trigger in concert with a mild push forward so it can release and go forward. Otherwise the trigger will not fully depress. This should be in the manual. It is not always as seamless as it may seem. With these minor quirks I do recommend this rack and I hope that these minor quirks are addressed in future rack designs.

The "glide" feature was not why I selected this rack. I wanted a hanging rack with adequate room between the cradles, and the "made in U.S.A" was a bonus. I thought the 6.5" would do it, however ordinary hybrids and kids bikes are still cramped on this rack. I should've bought the new Thule Camber 4, and saved a couple of hundred bucks.

Bought this for my 2012 Toyota Camry which only accepts a 1-1/4" hitch receiver making this one of the few 4-bike capable racks that worked with my car. I love the fact that it has wider spacing between each bike to actually fit bikes in each slot. I never understood why the spacing was so narrow on my old superbones 3-Bike rack which this replaced. It worked fine for one or two, but not three. I hope Saris increases the spacing on all its racks like this to further the capabilities of what the customer pays for and ultimately can actually use.

This is my first hitch bike rack. My requirements were that the bike rack would have a hitch lock, a bike lock, and most importantly, have the ability to be moved out of the way when loaded with bikes. That basically brought be down to the Thule and Yakima swing-away hitch racks. Check out the reviews on those and see if you are willing to gamble. Luckily I stumbled upon this offering from Saris. It was a brand new model and totally revolutionary. It took a while to ship as they caught up with production, but it was clearly worth the wait! It is well built, secure, and couldn't be easier to use. A simple pull of the trigger and the bikes tilt out of the way. It looks like it would be heavy to push or pull when fully loaded but it truly is effortless. Loading up the bikes is easy as well. Your mileage may vary as we have two typical Trek hybrid bikes, but there was no need for a special mounting bar. The bikes are secured with the ratchet straps with minimal effort and do not sway at all while driving. You will forget that you have bikes in the back when driving. I could go on and on, but it is a bike rack, and it does it's job with grace. Coupled with a lifetime warranty, I have zero regrets about this bike rack. I have no stake in this company and I made the decision to buy this with my own hard-earned money, but I do want to support and represent my hometown of Madison, WI where it was designed and manufactured. USA!
