When the factory was bought out by Taurus, the workers began producing the PT92--directly based on the Beretta 92. As a result of lapsed patents, Taurus produced pistols that were nearly exact copies of the 92s that preceded them. The basic design has remained, all while adding features over the years to make the PT92 a pistol that is not only affordable but based on a proven design.
