    Review of the sportsman 900

Well I will start with the good first I own several of your products already your customer service was outstanding shipping was prompt but I am having the same troubles as I was with the first sportsman 900 of complete inaccuracy I was going to contact you after the holiday and try to figure out what we can do to remedy this the rifle itself is great I love the way it fits my hand I love the style and when I can hit something it is a hard-hitting little rifle but the shot grouping on it is absolutely ridiculously inaccurate so if you could contact me that would be greatly appreciated thank you guys and have a good holiday weekend

    Things I liked:

This is light but solid, quite accurate with open sights and pellets (with a rifled barrel, I do not shoot BBs). I have beaucoup air rifles and this is one of the most enjoyable for looks, simplicity, and accuracy. I've had mine for about 18 months now and it's been a lot of cheap shooting fun, it's the one that I usually grab when I just want to briefly perforate a few tin cans or paper targets in the back yard.

    Things I would have changed:

For this price point, it's fine just the way it is. No complaints.

    What others should know:

Since loading single pellets by hand can be challenging, especially for anyone with large hands and fingers, as this is similar to loading a pellet on an 880, I would recommend using a large tweezers to grab the pellet and place it in the receiver. (Harbor Freight has a set of 6 different size tweezers and I endorse this as a useful way to avoid frustration in selecting and loading pellets. I've found this greatly helps to load and shoot quite rapidly.) Also, this rifle - well, at least mine - can be picky about pellets. It seems to like either flat nosed or domed Crosman pellets best and Piranhas least. But, again, for the inexpensive price point, I have no complaints and for someone my age, 70, it makes me feel like a kid again to just hear the sound of a pellet hitting a tin can. It's fun and that's probably the best thing about this rifle.

    Things I liked:

Cheap, extremely abuseable. Had one for a week I bumped into it causing it to drop off my work bench and the bolt handle sheared off. Returned for a new one I have had it for 2 years now. I have used it and stored it in winter and summer weather works well up to thirty7 pumps where it makes round have zero acuressy farther than 10 feet.

    Things I would have changed:

Less plastic, or atleast use multiple colors, I would have not made the mussel so sloppy joined to barrel, and personally I dont like the butt

    What others should know:

Yes oil oil oil make sure the sponges say lubricated. Make sure the screws all stay snug and take the scope off unless you have a better one to replace it with

    Things I liked:

Very inexpensive - exceeds the "you get what you pay for" expectations. Despite it's very plastic exterior the pump seems pretty well constructed. In an indoor range at 15-25 yards I get very tight groupings using basic competition Crossman lead wadcutters on a rest. Indicates to meet that the gun is inherently pretty true at this distance. The scope is pretty crappy - free moving elevation and windage makes it hard to get really dialed in but it is serviceable at shorter distances. What do you expect when it's a toss in at this price? Open/optic sights are ok. Sliding rear for elevation and right/left screw mounted windage - but screw does not seem to want so set. Trigger is better than I'd expect at this price point - little stiff. Pumping is easy to 8 pumps - I've found 6 to be more than sufficient sufficient at 50 feet.

    Things I would have changed:

It's really hard to pick this thing apart given the price point - especially if you find it in the $55 - $60 range. It's accurate - the basic guts seem to be pretty good. I'll let you know after I put a couple thousand rounds through it. Feels like some of the plastic exterior could get loose but, hopefully, it won't...so far so good. Not really sure I like the BB feed - it leaves a gap in the breach that a pellet could slip into and/or get jammed in.

    What others should know:

For the money - and for a learning experience for a young gunner - this thing is so much better than a bottom of the line Daisy and has more hitting power with better accuracy in the lower end Crossmans. It has a pretty cool look to it as well. Way fun to shoot for the money. I have not tested this beyond 25 yards.

    Things I liked:

Worked GREAT for a very few days, about 8 shots total. Then it just quit being able to compress Air. It just made a Hissing sound. When I checked, this is Apparently a Common Problem.

    Things I would have changed:

Make the Seals Better, more Durable, so they Last... Certainly Longer than a few days and 8 shots.

    What others should know:

Check for a More Reliable Air Rifle. This one is NOT reliable !

    Things I liked:

Light weight, well lubed, low trigger effort, easy to pump, super simple maintenance, out of the box accuracy, seems to shoot all pellets well, it even shoots BBs with a surprising amount of accuracy. PRICE.

    Things I would have changed:

The scope is hot garbage. I could not dial it in, I have a laser bore tool. I really dont expect much at this price point, I would just exclude it and roll with open sights. The bolt flips up after each round...does not open the breach, though.

    What others should know:

After reading about the included scope issues, I ordered a Center Point red/green dot with the rifle that works very well, and was cheap. The scope totally transforms this into a nice little rifle!

I am getting quarter sized groupings at 20 ft with BBs and dime(ish) sized with high quality pellets like RWS, H&N.

The box says 16+ but....I think this would be a great rifle for a kiddo because of the light weight and easy pump action. I had a more powerful Crosman at ten.

Overall, great rifle, throw away the scope and pick up one here!

    Scope doesn't really work.

    What others should know:

BB's go anywhere they want. You try to compensate but then they go in a different direction. Company's customer service is a joke. I'm throwing it away.

The look of the gun is different and nice,it is also fairly accurate with most pellets.

    Things I would have changed:

It is very hard to load the pellets it is that way for most pump Airguns tho. The scope is totally useless one of worst that I ever have seen.

    What others should know:

It is only $50 dollars and I think it is better than my daisy 880

    Things I liked:

I would invite readers to click "buzz" link at top of page. Tom is a PA pro who gave a indepth review of this rifle. It was enough to get me to bite. The Black Ops is an 880 clone with major upgrades: the 11mm picatinny rail is a master stroke! The thin dove tail on my 880 is a worry, and I make sure not to bang the scope. The Ops rail is thick. The easy to grasp cocking handle feels great and locks down well. The hard sights are much improved from the 880. The front sight also acts as a muzzle guard - sorely lacking on the 880.

    Things I would have changed:

Change pump hook up! Ok, I have an 880, 77xs, M-4, and now the Black Ops. These are all inexpensive to collect and are serviceable hunting guns. I took the Ops head to head with the 880, and it was a dead heat on power and accuracy. Where old reliable (in production since 1972) still out shines the Ops, is trigger pull and pump behavior. The 880 has a short and crisp release by comparison. The Ops takes a harder pull. The Ops pump makes a loud "snap" because of a button that engages and disengages during pumping. So if you plan on hunting in the open field, anything will fly or run away within 30 yards of that racket. The 880 is silent. Now if you do it like me and prep inside a house, then sneak out to deal with pest animals, that will work. Still, that Ops pump needs to be re-designed for quiet action.

    What others should know:

Black Ops has a double meaning. It is a cool name, but also I believe it is Gamo covert operations. Check out the Bone Collector Cadet to see the similarities. Gamo, a big company, would not let an upstart firm rip off one of their designs like that. Or maybe that is what happened and Gamo doesn't know. Either way this is a great deal for collectors or a newbie. The little scope never got put on mine because I had a variable power one sitting in a drawer. Unlike $100 magnum springers that cause many buyers heartache, like gross inaccuracy and shattered scopes, for $50 a shooter gets a recoiless gun that is easy to sight in and scope with a basic 40-50 dollar Tasco or Simmons. A Bug Buster right here at PA would look great on this Ops. Either way the gun is a good value and worthy of a scope upgrade. Penny size groups at 15 yds for this shooter. Hammer pellets.

    Things I liked:

Good workmanship and materials. Excellent accuracy with pellets at ten meters. not so good at 25 yards due to cheap included scope.

    Things I would have changed:

Leave off that embarrassing "Black Ops Junior Sniper Rifle" written in huge white letters. For one thing it is not junior sized. You are going to be a Sniper with a pump up BB / pellet gun ? Target the gun for sales to adults who want a inexpensive, accurate air rifle.

    What others should know:

For the money, this is a great rifle. I am surprised more folks have not bought one. I like mine .

    Things I liked:

This is a fun pump style bb gun. The look is pretty cool, it feels good to hold and shoot. I think it is fairly accurate and has good power. Personally, I like the fiber optic sights better than the scope.

    Things I would have changed:

The fake clip makes the handle kind of uncomfortable. I would prefer a more comfortable pump handle. If you have small hand this could be a challenge.

    What others should know:

This gun is what I expected at this price range. It is not the most solid, but it is also not $100. Take your time when pushing the bolt handle forward to avoid BB jams. I have to use a tweezers to load a pellet. I enjoy shooting this gun at tin cans.

    Rifled Steel Barrel FPS Design

    Things I would have changed:

Full size Picatinny rail on upper receiver Change the scope mount

    What others should know:

Overall a really great multi-pump gun, save for the scope being off axis from the bore. This caused my POI to be off my 3-4 inches versus using the Fiber Optic sights in which my POI matched my POA.
