Simplicity... I got this gun so that I can modify it. I wanted a project gun and didn't want something difficult to mess with... I decided on this variant with the steel breech from the factory because for the money it would be stupid to save $30 to spend $50 or $60 to get this breech and barrel.
Things I would have changed:For my purposes nothing... not a thing.
What others should know:WHEN YOU MODIFY YOUR AIRGUN YOU VOID YOUR WARRANTY. Improper or questionable mods may cause the gun to malfunction and can cause bodily harm or death. Having said that I have already increased the hammer weight and am waiting for my custom sear. Installed a weaver to piccatiny rail adapter. Ordered the UTG tactical laser device to top it off. Next is building my own silencer. I'm weighing the wood grip options... I think the black plastics I have from my first 2240 look OK... the brown ones that come with this gun seem cheaper somehow.

Everything about this pistol, the balance ,the grips, bolt action, the steel breach, the threaded end of the barrel. I mounted a laser red dot and took 2 shots to zero it in. This is a very accurate pistol and fun to shoot. You don't want to put it down. Everything about this pistol, the grip, the smouth
Things I would have changed:Change the bolt to the left side and come up with a 9 shot magazine. Make a screw on muzzle break
What others should know:Have plenty of CO2 and pellets you wont want to stop shooting

Solidly built and simple to use. It's both powerful, accurate and an excellent beginner pistol. I bought a second because my wife and daughter wouldn't give mine back.
Things I would have changed:I would like to see the muzzle tapped for a front sight and see the 2250 xl offered as well.

powerful. accurate. compact and easy to handle.
Things I would have changed:Very loud for backyard shooting. include a sound suppressor.
What others should know:Perfect platform for customizing! I made mine into a carbine with silencer and 14.6" barrel and stock. With a few minor up grades, this is a dream to shoot.

Great pistol! It's gonna be a great start to a heavily modified co2 air pistol. Great value too since it comes with the steel breach and a threaded barrel. It's super accurate with the right pellets (crosman premier Hollowpoints).
Things I would have changed:Maybe include black grips instead of the old style brown grips.
What others should know:If you are thinking about getting a Crosman 2240 save yourself some time and spend the extra money and get a 2240XL. You will probably end up getting a steel breach and threaded barrel anyway so save money and get it all to start with

The power I feel when I hold the gun.
Things I would have changed:More power.
What others should know:Before I bought this pistol the neighborhood kids would make fun of me for not being able to grow facial hair. Now after receiving the Crossman 2240 I have not only grown a facial hair, I have received respect from the neighborhood hooligans as well as a large portion of the black community.

Really nice to get this with the steel breech already installed and a bonus to have the threaded barrel.
Things I would have changed:I wish there was a version of the steel breech without the rear sight dovetail. It's unnecessary when there is no front sight anyway.
What others should know:I'm making a poor man's version of the Edgun Lieshy and putting a DonnyFL Tanto silencer on it and a stock. I have a red dot on it currently and it's grouping terrific at the ranges I've tested it with.

Relatively light weight. Has threading for a moderator at end of the barrel. Great accuracy from 10 to 15 feet using a red dot sight. Dovetail provides easy way to add some accessories. Very simple and reliable.
Things I would have changed:Need a bit of dexterity to insert pellet in confined space, so an option for a multi-shot magazine/clip would be nice. I switched the sear/trigger spring to thinner gauge to enable smoother trigger pull and firing. Wish the gun could come with a Picatinny rail to have broader selection of accessories, or have ability to switch from dovetail to that without adding height above the barrel.
What others should know:I am new to air guns, and am using this for removing cane toads from our neighborhood and golf course. Shot distances are anywhere from point blank to about 10 feet. Since it is night activity, we don't want the guns to make much sound and the TKO moderator i added has greatly quieted the shots.

Nice gun to plink with. I put the factory shoulder stock on it & a Hawke red dot. Shoot swingers at 20 & 30 yds. Hit most shot at 20 & enough at 30 to make it interesting.
Things I would have changed:Trigger could be better
What others should know:Buy a lot of pellets & co2

When I was first looking. I was going to purchase a pumper the 2289. I opted for this because of the steel breech and the threaded barrel. They are great upgrades. Super accurate with a full c02 cartridge. I may still purchase the 2289 cause the parts are interchangeable.
Things I would have changed:Maybe a set of iron sights. Really people are buying the steel breech to mount a scope so I dont know.
What others should know:I do have few quirks. I went to change the barrel and the bolt had to be completely removed to access the tiny allen head. I'm not sure if this was an a change by crosman. Cause every YouTube video does not show this step.

Great value on a great gun with the steel breech upgrade. Shoots hard and if you have a way to aim, hits where you aim. Wanted one ofthese since i got into Airguns and I feel like I got THE co2 gun. Hits with authority, definitely living up to the 400+ fps, though I have no Chrony. Blows holes in a galvanized trash can at close range, and buries them to the skirt into a treated 4x4, and I'd feel confident with rabbits or rats at 20-25 yards. For hunting you'd wanna limit it to around 25 shots per co2 powerlet. Target shooting I got prolly 40 pretty consistent shots at short range, but when the power drops off, it goes off a cliff quick. Overall considering the power of the gun, and the bigger bore, Id say it's quite efficient with co2.
Things I would have changed:I'd add sights and sell it for more. I'm having to use a terrible Gamo green dot until I can afford some kind of iron sighs and I'm still not sure how I will deal with the front. I want sights and to be able to mount a scope/and or a rail mounted magazine without removing the sights. The gun is accurate, but I had to knock a star off for having no iron sights, all that seperates this from a perfect 5 star review score. Why don't they sell a .177 version; and while you're at it Crosman, how about a .25? I, and many others, would want both versions, if they became available.
What others should know:The gun may come with varying colors as far as grips at least, if not also bolt and trigger. Mine was all black except for brown plastic grips. If you want an accurate hard hitting affordable co2 pistol, you cant go wrong with this Crosman classic! Lots of other guns to buy, even .22 pistols, many nice guns, but this is a MUST have for any airgun collection IMO.

The CO2 gun is accurate and the grip is good. I have arthritis and the grip is very important because my hands start to hurt if the grip is lacking. This grip, although plastic, is OK. The balance is OK for a plinking CO2 pistol, but not anywhere near a match gun's balance. I say the accuracy is OK off a rest with good quality pellets - JSBs work well; however, this is not a "one hole" gun at 10 meters.
Things I would have changed:The CO2 gun is very loud. It sounds like a 22 pistol going off. The pistol should come with a sound moderator. The trigger is terrible. I don't mean just kind of poor for a gun of this price point, but terrible on any pistol. The trigger is hard to pull, it has a catch about half-way through the pull that feels like the point of release, but it isn't, and the release point varies in my opinion. I have seldom shot a gun with a worse trigger. The selling point of this gun seems to be the steel breach. I can't see that it makes a difference. A lot of unnecessary hassles come with this steel breach. I don't think they are worth it. The performance is about the same according to comparisons I have read.
What others should know:It is all but impossible to get sights for this gun. It has an 11mm dovetail mount, so if you are into red dot sights you have it made with this pistol, just be sure the mounts are 11mm. Open iron or match sights are not available anywhere I have looked. It is impossible to get a muzzle brake (modifier) for this pistol because everyone has produced products for the 2240 and not the 2240XL. I have searched on eBay and other sites for a modifier, but to get one with a 1/2 X 20 thread takes a call to a custom shop. Got $100 you want to throw away? Buy this gun and try to modify the sound and you will get to spend money for nothing. The gun can be extensively modified, but it isn't cheap. You may as well buy an upgraded model rather than buy this and spend time looking for, paying for, and installing new parts to fix the crummy ones that are now inside the gun. I am really disappointed in the gun. Wish I had not bought it. AD2

This pistol comes with the steel receiver and threaded barrel which makes it a great value right out of the box. Accuracy is very good, on paper I can keep them inside a 1 inch circle at 33yds.
Things I would have changed:The trigger is heavy but easy to improve with an adjustable sear.
What others should know:Rugged construction, CO2 is cheaper than I thought.

The Crosman 2240 has been a long-time favorite. Most serious shooters have paid for the steel breech upgrade on their non-XL model. If I were buying new today, I would spend the extra $30 and get the Diana Airbug instead. It has all the 2240 features plus nice wood furniture, a truly adjustable trigger, a magazine for repeat shots, decent open sights, and the non-plastic breech is standard.
Things I would have changed:Buy a Diana Airbug instead and you won't have to spend twice the money adding upgrades to put your 2240XL in the same class.
