Cold Steel Tanto Machete

Great self defense and utility machete. Just right for both purposes.

Very sharp and comfortable in hand have mounted to my zero turn kubota for taking down saplings that get in the way

Bought it for my mom for her at work about a year ago she works alot in the woods and she's used the everlivin daylights outta it and says she loves it it came quite sharp and is easy to sharpen anybody who says otherwise is just being a baby because they dont know how to sharpen

Horrible sharpening job very uneven edge very jagged I had to sharpen it my self I king of wish you could order it with out and edge I could have done a way better job at it

Very practical, multi-purpose tool. Handles like a dream come true. Generally, the machete finish is unrefined compared to Cold Steel knives and swords (i.e. machetes may arrive with large burrs along the edge and may have small rust spots). That said, the tanto machete has amazing performance. This one has excellent balance and a handle design perfect for maneuverability. Highly recommended!

Bought this machete so the rest of my family would stop using my 40+ year old Collins cane cutter that’s my baby. The tanto style and 13” blade makes this a perfect, in my opinion, cutting machete. Shipping was faster than I thought it would be, handle is great fit for my hand size, but the coating was hit or miss, and I really have to sharpen it to cut, factory missed getting a good angle on it after 2-3 tries. The 1055 steel, at 13”, is as long as it can be and still work well without bending or twisting with use, I’ve had longer blades in this steel and it just doesn’t work any longer properly. Don’t care about either of those, I have to sharpen every blade I get to get to know the blade, and the coating will wear off at some point anyway. It works well against softer wood, banana plants, and high growing weeds, but not on hardwoods of 3”+, but that’s why I have axes for. I would buy it again if I wear this one out, and definitely recommend it to friends.

Great price, very sharp and holds it’s edge! Feels a little blade end heavy as it wants to slip out of your hand. Overall though I really like it!

After a half hour’s work, the blade rolls and dulls enough that it becomes unsuitable/unsafe for use. I know that this is very bad, because I’m comparing it with a Collins Legitimus (no longer produced, older than 1960). The First major issue, as mentioned, is the softness of the blade, which decreases the blade’s immediate durability. This is worrisome, as dull tools are dangerous to the user, requiring more energy to accomplish a task (dull blades cost legs). The second issue is that the tanto blade shape pushes vegetation away from the wielder. This gets annoying very quickly, reducing the effectiveness of your each and every swing. The third issue is appearance: it is aesthetically displeasing to look at in person, reminding me of a somewhat cartoonish knife made by a child out of painted cardboard, as the proportions are off. Overall, the design paired with the poorly made steel could be replicated at home with an angle grinder and some sheet metal. Who knows, it might be more durable.

I've had this blade for about 2 years and there is only moderate blade rolls, but I use it to cut down whole trees so that is my fault. Even after years of use it is still razor sharp. The only issue I have is that the handle is not great for long periods of use, after about 30 minutes it feels like sandpaper in your hand, but it can easily be fixed by putting grip tape on it or using gloves.

Light enough to swing around with one hand without stressing your wrist. The edge angle is acute enough to cut most things. The sheath could use some work to be easier to carry around but it will do in a pinch. For the price this is a great little machete.
