6 of 6 H&N Slug HP Sampler, .217 .22 (5.5mm) Cal Reviews
Excellent slugs great quality Hard hitting great expansion Great sample pack to see what works best in your set up
Things I Would Have ChangedPackaging would be nice if the tubes where labeled with diameter and weight
What Others Should KnowGet the .217 and .218 to see what your gun likes I have 2 FX's
a Crown and a Dreamline. The crown likes the .217 and the little dreamline is happy with the .218.
Samplers are the way to go.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowUrban loved the 23gr , at44 ok, discovery ok, coyote ok. Avenger loves the 30gr. My other 22 cals didn't like any.
It is very nice to be able to purchase a small number of different size slugs to see which weight shoots best in your barrel.
Things I Would Have ChangedIt would be great if it included a few less of each weight of slug and also included both the .217 and the .218 size slugs in the various weights to determine which shoots best in your rifle.
What Others Should KnowAll group well in my Avenger but it especially likes the 21 and 30-grain weight slugs.
The pellet tubes. These pocket carriers are sturdy with very nice caps. It's almost like the slugs are an extra and not the other way around
Things I Would Have ChangedTube caps should be one-hand flip tops. I drilled a hole in each cap and added a tether made from synthetic braided line in a 1.5mm size, anchoring the other end to the tube with some heatshrink tubing. That way, out in the field I won't have to worry about losing a cap in thick underbrush
What Others Should KnowI'm sure the pellet samples are really representative of what you can expect from regular production, as my powder scale shows a bit of a spread in pellet weights. It's not that wide, so I would say these are excellent for hunting uses or casual field & target, and not a serious competition target grade. The average of my samples was not quite the same as what was claimed, kinda like H&N rounded off everything to the right of the decimal. I highly recommend running these through a sizer, even from regular tins & weighing out separate batches. If you bought these for the long range application they are pitched for, then I'm preaching to the choir. If you are going to try using H&N slugs in a Gauntlet, you will find that they might be much too tight in the bore. I'm having a consistent 8 out of 10 fail-to-fire that is threatening to blow out my transfer port seal! That shows that the size dips low enough to allow a few slugs to fire ok
Can't even give a good review because the package was damaged during the delivery. The package broke and mixed up the different weights so now I don't know which weight of pellets.
Things I Would Have ChangedPrint the weight of the pellets on the tube they come in.

Sample pack worked great for finding the best performing slug. Shot less than 1" 50 yard groups with the 21 and 27 grain slugs. 21 grain shot 2" flatter trajectory at 50 yards. Took out and eliminated some of the chatter boxes at a deer stand. 6 shots, 6 less noise makers. Dropped every one in place. Hit hard. Significantly less wind drift than Diablo pellets. Diablo pellets were drifting close to 2" at 50 yards with a 5mph crosswind. Slugs were drifting about 3/4" which is a significant improvement and took a lot of guesswork out of longer shots.
Things I Would Have ChangedAs others said, would be nice to have tubes labeled. Just make sure you break out the permanent marker and label them before you mix them up or you will have to break out the scale. Especially true if you order both the .217 and .218 sample packs... 10 tubes of, uh crap! Break out the micrometer and scale!
What Others Should KnowShooting an Akela. This particular Akela liked the .217 diameter slugs much more than the .218. I recommend buy both the H&N .217 and .218 sample packs and find out which one your airgun likes best.
