10 of 26 UTG 4-16x40 AO Rifle Scope Reviews
I like the clarity at all levels of magnification. The illuminated cross hairs are nice, but the cross hairs have an illuminated ring around them. This may bother some people, but not me. I find it easier to acquire my target faster with the illuminated ring around the cross-hairs. This scope is well built, it should last for years. I mounted it on my Kral Puncher Breaker in 25 caliber. I like the location of the red-green illumination on/off buttons, and that it has three levels of brightness.
Things I Would Have ChangedI would change the way that the sunshield mounts to the objective lens of the scope. I received the optional UTG sunshield as a gift, and with it installed, the parallax adjustment cannot be rotated. Either make the threaded portion of the sunshade a little longer or make the internal threads on the objective lens a little less deep. This is the only complaint I have with this scope.
What Others Should KnowThis is a great scope overall, it is very well built and the adjustments are very positive. The red/green illuminated cross-hairs are nice and clear, and the scope takes a very common battery, a 2032 button battery. The only problem I has with this scope was with the attachment of the optional sunshield, which I did not need, even in bright sunlight. Definately buy this scope, it is one of the best ones I have used for under $100.00
I felt that this scope was the most accurate of the scopes I owned, so it deserved a spot on my RWS Diana 460. It was deadly accurate for getting rid of ground hogs. However, this review is mostly about service. This year the scope needed to be re-centered and the windage adjustment wasn't working. There was no clicking sound when I turned the knob. I went to Pyramyd Air looking for a replacement and saw that Leapers scopes had lifetime warranty. I went on line and filled in the warranty form. Within hours I received an email with an RMA number & instructions to return it. The person I worked with was Ryan Brown and he was very flexible. I sent the scope in and it was fixed & returned in about a week. Mr. Brown explained the problem (loose turret locking screw) and sent me instructions on how to check for the problem and fix it complete with a picture.
Things I Would Have ChangedInclude information.in the manual to detect loose turret screws and how to tighten them.
What Others Should KnowKudos to Pyramyd Air as well. I purchased the scope over 5 years ago and their order history only included the last 2 years. I sent a request for a copy of the invoice for this scope and they identified it based on my description (no model number was on the scope) and sent me a copy of the invoice. Overall, this has been a good experience and I will not hesitate to buy another Leapers scope.
Incredibly accurate scope for the price. I installed it on a .25 Hatsan Flashpup QE. After zeroing it in, I haven't had to do anything with it for the last 5 months. I shoot with it nearly every day. Nice clarity. At 70 yards and at rest, nearly impossible to miss. Getting 1/2" groupings on a consistent basis. I have no complaints at all using this scope.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing I can think of for now...
What Others Should KnowIf you are purchasing the 25 Hatsan Flashpup QE, you may want to consider using this scope.
It is durable.
Things I Would Have ChangedLessen bulk and weight, change the mil-dots out and put a duplex or other cross hair not blocking out field of view or target or things to side of target. The lens system inside the goliath tube is a bit misleading to the scope's exit pupil--it is hard to find the exact place to put your eye.
What Others Should KnowI dislike all "air gun" scopes and use only centerfire or rimfire scopes. Other strict air gunners have hordes of "air rated" scopes - and enjoy them.
Non much
Things I Would Have ChangedNeeds more elevation adjustment.
What Others Should KnowI wouldn't buy another.
good scope for the money
Things I Would Have Changednothing
I have bought two of these scopes. A good value for the money. Zeroed my .25 Marauder at 20 yards and hit small game anywhere between 20 and 50 yards with no adjustment. The green and red illuminated feature works great and does make a difference in low light conditions. Also comes with a spare battery.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowOne of the better scopes for the money. I have had no issues with mine.
So far the scope is working great on the crosman Quest 22cal. This gun is putting out 20fpe. The scope is holding zero and very clear. About 300 shots through the gun.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing. It was a better scope than the one that came with the gun and was not too expensive.
What Others Should KnowI had to shim medium rings to keep the objective bell off the gun. The lense cap will still not fit. So get high rings if mounting to 3/8 dovetail.
Clear, lots of mil dots, easy illumination adjustments

crystal clear,
Things I Would Have Changedthe cover over the parallax adjustment is just plain stupid unless you shoot at the same distance all the time.
