The CSI Camo is a wonderful, lightweight, powerful air rifle. Adding a Crosman Nitro piston conversion delivers more benefits.

You'll be ready to hunt small and medium-sized game and vermin with the Gamo Whisper! Plus, the non-removable noise dampener reduces the report (noise) up to 52%, which means you won't spook game while hunting. But, just because the Whisper is modestly priced doesn't mean you give up anything in the accuracy department! You'll be hitting your targets and making one-shot kills time after time. This just might be the ideal hunting gun!

We measured the cocking effort with the metal spring, and it was 35 lbs. (Gamo lists it at 30 lbs.). The Crosman Nitro Piston cocks with 34 lbs. of effort.

Here are the benefits of getting a CSI Camo with a Crosman Nitro Piston conversion:
  • Smoother cocking
  • Smoother shooting
  • No spring torque
  • No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours
  • Functions perfectly in cold weather
  • Lasts longer than a metal spring
  • Installed by our expert gunsmiths!
Installation of the Crosman Nitro PIston has a 1-year warranty.

This is a super sweet rifle. Being only my second Gamo, I can only compare it to my Hunter 220, which i have had for over 10 years. The spring twang and vibration are replaced by a solid kick and though it is not as quiet as my springer rifle, it sure feels like it ; it's a different noise. As best i can describe, the piston makes a sound like a loud wine-cork pop or a wood-on-wood slap. The open sights are as good but not better than the old style Hunter and Shadow sights; but the accuracy is superior. Its very hard NOT to hit a dime size group at 25 yards. It also feels incredibly light. Cocking effort is significantly greater, but you get used to that real quick. The paint job is awesome, but be careful not scratch it on rought surfaces or rub it away if you use solvent cleaners. As soon as I knew it was a keeper, I added the GRT III and a front sight shroud.

I was really close to sending this rifle back to PA. The reason being that the Whisper I got had a very dirty barrel. When I look through the barrel of my Hunter, I see smooth chrome-like rifling, but this was not the case with my Whisper. The best way to desribe this stuff is hard, black, rust-textured gunk. With this stuff in the barrel, no matter how hard I tried I could not get a shot group under 6 inches even at 5 yards! I had to squeeze pellets into the breech, deforming them almost every time. Being too embarassed and depressed to ask my wife to return this expensive gift, I decided to try to fix it myself. Guy's review shows how to clean off this solidified gunk . I suspect it is actually overspray from the paint job, as there was alot of green paint on the breech. I managed to remove about 70% of the gunk, but it took forever - it has a dirty motor oil look when you you look at the brush and rod: thirtyfive dollars, 4 bronze brushes, and dozens of cleaning patches later, the pellets fit snugly without force into the breech, the barrel rifling is now visible / only semi-shiny, and accuracy is at what I consider 100%, though it does require more fequent cleaning due to the remaining stubborn gunk. Please look into this apparently common defect, PA. The stock trigger is fine, but upgrades are always cool.

This rifle is accurate at short ranges (10 yards) with almost any wadcutter or dome pellet I've used, but it's favorite all-purpose pellet has been the Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum heavy 10.5 grain - awesome quality & value BTW. Although the elevation seems to be at its upper limit, and it needs to be tightened every once in a while (300-350 shots), i have not had any problem with the adjustments. You will get the original spring and parts with your order from PA. If you can get PA to clean this rifle for you or send you one with a clean barrel then you will not be dissapointed.

Shoots nice and smooth with no kick back. I shoot at about 40 yards and it's always on target. I love it and my friends who shot it are amazed how it shoots. It's beautiful looking rifle too.

Not a thing.

This air rifle is light, powerful, easy to cock and shoots tight groups. The noise reduction is a nice feature as well. The noise is basically limited to the knock of the piston. Not silent but the kid's GAMO Delta was louder. The fiber optic sights were a welcome feature also. I was shooting groups with the GAMO open sights at 20 yards that I would normally achieve with peep sights (standing off hand).

The GAMO trigger is a poor value for this otherwise great air rifle. I didn't even try to adjust the trigger's first stage. The trigger is to thin and too heavy. The trigger's take up felt inconsistent and even though I could get good groups out of the air rifle I was still plagued by the odd flyer due to the poor trigger.

I purchased the .22 cal. This was a good value, after just 300 pellets I was shooting .33" and .25" groups at 35 yards (seated position, 3-9 x 40 AO scope) even with the cr#$+* trigger. Shot the cap (only the cap) off of several 20oz plastic pop bottles at 35 yrds with no problem. Blew the heart out of Pom Wonderful bottled at 22 yrds. I've been shooting for 35 years now a younger less patient shooter will easily get frustrated by this trigger and should upgraded it. Make sure you tighten every thing up, after about 150-200 shots the rear sight became loose due to the piston's powerful knock.

Consistent accuracy. Good Power. Lightweight. Smooth firing. Smooth cocking. Most of the sound is redirected away from the prey and back into the shooter.

I would get the royal version if I had it to do again in hopes of a better stock.

Great bargain for the money

This is a very nice rifle! This rifle is missing a Gamo scope rail like most of the other Whipser class rifles come with by default but it is not really needed as Rick said in an earlier review, the accuracy with the iron sites are phenominal! I did however opt to add a scope to mine since it will be used mainly for hunting small game. It's true that this rifle's trigger handles much better than other Gamo rifles but this is still no match when compared to the GRT III trigger upgrade available elsewhere. This rifle has the option to come with a air venturi gas ram upgrade. I recommend getting it. The cocking effort is very smooth and the performance of the gas ram is excellent even after putting about 2000 shots through the rifle since I've had it. I requested to have the removed parts shipped back to me in the box and they were there all packed up nicely. Thanks, PA! There was no gunk in the barrel of my rifle, I'm almost wondering if the previous reviewer mistook the barrel rifling for gunk in the barrel? Mine was very clean and shot nicely right out of the box after a simple preshoot clean, tightening, and wipedown. Everything was already nice and tight!

On my rifle, I added the following items: CharlieDaTuna's GRTIII Trigger Upgrade, Gamo Scope Rail, UTG Diana Compensator for rifles with no Barrel Droop, Nikon Realtree Hardwoods AGP Camo Quick Release Rings, a Nikon Team Realtree 3-9x50 Hardwoods AGP Camo Scope, and a Phillips Long Slender Pellet Holder. However, this rifle handles very well stock. I was weary of the scope but it seems to be holding up well with the gas ram and the gun looks freaking awesome all camo'd out! My only gripe would be to tell Gamo to add a scope rail to the default setup just in case you want to add a scope.

This rifle and the Silent Cat are the only two Gamo Whisper class rifles that do not come with a Gamo scope rail. If you plan to add any type of scope to this rifle, purchase a scope rail from Gamo. Otherwise, your front and rear fiber optic sights will get in the way. The rifle I received was manufactured before GAMO started engraving the PBA and Lead Ammo Speed Claims on the top receiver. There was however a shiny yellow sticker in it's place that stated High Velocity 1000 FPS but I was able to remove it without even leaving a single mark on the rifle. A promotion was running when I purchased this rifle that stated a free Gamo Gun Buddy sling thing would be automatically added to my order prior to it being shipped. Well, I didn't get one in the box when I opened it. Shortly after I received my stuff and complained, they changed the website so it adds it to the cart automatically. I still never received an email reply about the complaint or a free gun buddy. I am glad to see they fixed the problem for the next purchaser though. Lastly, do not purchase pellets with your rifle if you want to keep the labels on the pellet containers intact. I purchased some with mine and they were all taped up together with packing tape and when I removed the packing tape the labels on the top and bottom tins came right off! So much for their advertising of taking great care of your pellet containers during shipping. I couldn't even use my predator or crow magnum tins in my you tube review!

This rifle is very light weight with tack driving accuracy, now that I finally got the bore cleaned. The fiber optic sights at least for me are more accurate than with a scope, shooting quater sized groups on shoot-n-see targets at 30 yards. The rifle isn't very hold sensitive at all as long I'm gripping the forestock a little bit. Shooting prone, standing, kneeling, or bench shots, when you pull the trigger things just fall down. All in all it is a decent and very accurate small game air rifle.

First off my barrel came to me with lots of something caked in it. At first looking down the bore I thought it was rust but it was black. It just looked disgusting and pitted the entire length. I tried a bore mop and some JB paste to no avail. I ended up using hoppe's #9 bore cleaner and wearing out a copper .22 brush just to get most of it out. I then followed that up with a bore polishing using JB paste again. After that I pushed a patch with some cleaning solution on it through the bore and then dry patches until one came out white. Now with the bore finally clean I do notice some pitting here and there but since this is an exchange on another rifle and it shoots fine with the pitted bore, I'm not worrying about it. I do find it a shame though because Gamo has some great ideas and designs. The quality control just isn't where it needs to be. I would gladly pay a little more for tighter tolerances, better machining, and increased quality control on these same rifle designs. Like everyone else has already said, the trigger is very creepy. A small payment to Charlie Da Tuna fixed that problem though. Lastly, the click adjustments on the rear sight leave much to be desired. They could have a more audible "click" and be more positive locking.

For all of it's minor shortcomings I still find it to be a decent purchase for the money spent. The Air Venturi Gas Ram upgrade is well worth the money. The rifle is very accurate and fairly hard hitting, even out to 40+ yards with open sights. Do yourself a favor and just order the GRT-III trigger from Charlie Da Tuna when you order this rifle.

Weight, or the lack thereof, NO SHOT NOISE (of course you hear the ram and mechanical aspects of the gun when it fires), Did I mention how light it was!, Accuracy was way above average with multiple pellets types, The Trigger (yeah this trigger is just not like other gamo triggers!), Very smooth cocking, very little recoil, not nearly as hold sensitive as my other break barrel spring rifles.

I wish it cost less. This is such a nice rifle but at $400 I know it will be out of a lot of people's price range. This is a real shame because if they had a chance to shoot this rifle, they'd finally see just how nice a break barrel can be.

The Air Venturi Gas ram is worth EVERY PENNY! If it is an option... just get it. The difference between a rifle with and without the gas ram is so noticeable that it is hard to believe. My wife has virtually claimed this rifle as her own and she doesn't even like shooting pellet rifles.. but she likes this one! The cocking force is very tolerable for all day shooting which is one reason she likes it so much. It is also very easy to shoot and hit your intended target.

If your shots are 35 yards or less, consider NOT putting a scope on this rifle. It is so light and easy to handle. I think you'll loose some of that if you scope it. Head shots on sneaky squirrels are easy out to 20+ yards. Just line up the sights and pull the trigger. The rest is history. You will not understand just how nice this rifle is until you have a chance to shoot one for yourself.

POWER - with the Air Venturi Gas Ram upgrade I got an average of 738 FPS with only a 3 fps spread using RWS 14.2 grn Super H Point pellets. Groups were about .5" to .75" at 20 yards with open sights. By the way, I have terrible eyesight so that is really saying something. That translates to 17.17 FT lbs of shooting force.

I know $400 is a lot of money, but if I could go back and return EVEY OTHER BREAK BARREL that I own and trade it for this one, I'd do it. I can't say enough about this rifle.
