Description
All gas springs (gas pistons, gas rams) are NOT created equal!
The Nitro Piston 2 has it all over the original Nitro Piston and almost every other gas spring on the market. Most gas springs have a reputation of being hard to cock, but the NP2 put an end to that. According to airgun writer Tom Gaylord, it's the easiest-cocking gas piston he's ever shot.
But Crosman didn't stop the improvements there. They also improved the trigger so it feels like it's been tuned! Imagine that: A factory trigger that breaks crisp and clean. It has a significantly lighter trigger-pull, not one of those so-called "lawyer" triggers that requires Herculean strength to shoot.
As long as they were making improvements, Crosman decided to make a better and more effective integral sound suppression system that really is quiet. You'll notice an immediate difference between the report from your Nitro Piston 2 air rifle and the older Nitro Piston guns or other brands.
So, let's add up what you'll get in this great package: Easy cocking, fantastic trigger and less noise. And, it's assembled in Crosman's plant in Bloomfield, New York. While that's almost everything you could ever want, there's one more thing -- and it's really important: Accuracy. When Tom Gaylord tested a Nitro Piston 2 at an industry show, he commented that he hit everything he aimed at. Isn't that what you want to do? We thought so!
The Benjamin Trail NP2 with a snow camo stock isn't a dream -- it's a dream come true. It's here for you to enjoy, to hit everything you're aiming at, and not strain with each cock and each pull of the trigger. They've put the fun back in airgunning!

10 of 10 Benjamin Trail NP2 Rifle, Snow Camo, Combo Reviews
Solid frame, scope adjustments, rubber butt pad, nice stock design and pattern.
Things I Would Have ChangedToo much recoil for a pellet rifle, my 22 mag does not kick this hard. Trigger has crazy pre travel, and very hard pull on secondary, needs serious trigger work to make reasonable pull and travel. Barrel shroud needs to be easily removeable, its not. At 10lbs. With the scope, it outweighs the 30-06 by 2 lbs.
What Others Should KnowRight out if the box, I could not get zeroed in, the first 20 shots were all over, and the report was odd sounding. About shot 21, I broke the barrel open and a sliver of plastic about 2" long and 1/8" thick was sticking out of the air port. I pulled it out and continued sighting in. Now the holes were staying close, under 1" @ 20 yards, and the report sounded normal. Called tech support for an exchange, really expected more from Benjamin, a US designed and assembled air rifle. You get what you pay for!
Trigger is fairly smooth, breaks clean. Expect it to get better as it breaks in more. Very nice .22 cal pellet rifle for the $$. Very quiet for the power it has, able to take out small pests 40 plus yards.
Things I Would Have ChangedToo bad scope does not have the mil dots, my friend's older Trail NP has it. Grip could be slightly larger for better feel
What Others Should KnowLooks very cool in snow camo, my buddies are jealous since their rifles are basic black ones
The price,
Things I Would Have ChangedThe weight.
Like always I first cleaned the barrel and decided to shoot 1 shot each of 6 different .22 pellets to see which one I wanted to zero in. Let me tell you, all vary in weight but at 20 yards they all grouped in under a half dollar group! I have never had this happen with any Springer or gas Ram. Pellets used: RWS Super point 14.5gr, Crosman Piranha 14.3gr, RWS Hobby 11.9gr, RWS Meisterkugeln 14.0gr, Predator GTO lead free 11.75gr, and Crosman Premier HP Grain unknown not on tin. It became apparent that the best 5 shot groups go to 1st Premier HP, 2nd Meisterkuglen, 3rd Piranha. They all fit under the size of a dime but the tightest same hole group was Premier HP. Very quiet with all pellets tested and these groups were all made with an out of the box trigger! Hold was front end of stock on gun rest with light hold in the shoulder and slow controlled trigger pull. Scope is what to be expected for this package, I will use it till it breaks and then upgrade. This gun is very comfortable!
Things I Would Have ChangedTrigger is good but could be smoother once you get to the second stage.
What Others Should KnowThis gun does have a short length of pull and smaller grip so it great for me but it may not be comfortable for the larger shooter. The shroud can turn as you break the barrel but you can compensate for that once you get use to it.
This gun looks great. It is the best balanced rifle I own. Once you clean the barrel properly and tune the trigger, then find the right pellet, you will have a tack driver. After about a year shooting my Benjamin I put on a better scope so it could reach it's potential. This rifle is under rated, probably because of the trigger and not finding the right pellet. I tested several pellets and mine liked the 18.13 Exact, so that is what I have been shooting for almost a year. Recently I bought four tins of pellets, all Exact; Exact 13.43 gr / 14.35 gr /15.89 gr / and 18.13 gr. My rifle did not like the 13.43 or 14.35 one little bit. It did like the 15.89 and 18.13 out to 30 yards. Beyond 30 yards the 18.13 opened up a bit.... BUT the 15.89 gr. held a tight group. I am 61 years old and have only been shooting air guns for 3 years.... these are my groups (in yards and inches): 10=0.375, 20=0.750", 30=0.625, 35=0.750, 40=1.125", 45=1.0", 50=1.125", 55=1.375", 60=1.250". Some gun!!
Things I Would Have ChangedThe pistol grip area for the thumbhole could be a little thicker for us adults... this grip is for small hands and/or short fingers. The accuracy of this rifle deserves a better scope, with mil dots!
What Others Should KnowTo get the most out of this rifle go to pyramydair , Rick Eustler Jr. and find the TAKE AIM series; go to episode 5 and clean your new barrel the way Rick does. Also go on the web and find THE AIRGUN HUNTER; he is the best I found on how to adjust this trigger.... and then watch as your groups shrink!
I get my best groups by holding my left hand under the barrel with my middle finger planted in the screw hole on the one side, my thumb on top of the little groove on the other side, and grip the stock lightly (not loose, not firm). My right hand gripping the pistol grip firmly and pulling the rifle with that hand into my shoulder. The trigger pull is 3-4 pounds, so that is how much weight I pull into my shoulder.... if you use less shoulder pull than this, then your trigger finger has to make up the difference as the gun sinks into your shoulder muscle (or clothing) before the trigger can break. I do not jerk the trigger nor do I make a long slow SQUEEZE. I pull firmly and quickly.
I have the .22 version. It has many things going for it. Easy to cock, as the long barrel gives you plenty of leverage. The gun has nice balance and holds VERY steady. Mine shoots great groups; I'm using Crosman Premier domed pellets, 14.3 grains. The Crosman Premier "Predator" domed hollow points seem to fly just like the regular domed ones do, which there are based on. I have a tin of RWS Match pellets coming that I'm looking forward to trying as well. They shoot nice in my Benjamin .177 pistol. It is also a very quiet air gun, much quieter than the .177 of a different model (same maker, Benjamin) I bought at the same time. Lastly, the two stage trigger is pretty good once you adjust it. I ended up with mine 3/4 of a turn out, which is counter-clockwise. It now goes right through the first stage and stops at the second stage. A slight squeeze and it goes off. Very nice. A little more, as in 1/4 more of a turn lighter and it becomes one long trigger with no second stage.
Things I Would Have ChangedSell it without a scope as well at a reduced price point. I put a Center Point 4-16x40 on mine from the get-go as they have gotten great reviews and yes, they area nice scope. Replace the stock phillips-head screws that attach the stock to the action with button-head torx items, and post the torque level they should be kept at.
What Others Should KnowDon't be afraid to adjust your trigger. Turn the screw counter-clockwise to lighten it.
Also, the screws that attach the action to the stock need to be tightened periodically, and when they are loose they negatively affect accuracy.
I like the lite weight of the rifle, mine is a .22, I like the snow camo, the grip is easy for me to hold, the appearance of a long barrel, it has a mounts for the sling. Scope mount is secure. Ease of cocking. Speed of pellet's(FPS) great penetration. Would be a great hunter if it would shoot in the same spot.
Things I Would Have ChangedI would sell the gun with out scope, I changed mine to a UTG Swat since I was having a horrible time to get it to group. After well over a 1000 shots I still cant get a decent group...If it was cheaper I would recommend it or if I have a lemon and can exchange it for one that will group I would recommend it. I will not sell mine to anyone with the current inconsistency it has now with grouping.
What Others Should KnowI used Diablo exact 18.13 grns, chronoed at 696 FPS, Crossman Premier HP 14.3 813 FPS, Crossman premier Ultra mag 793 FPS, RWS Superpoints 14.5 803 FPS. None of these would get a consistent group, this is at 20 yards with a bench rest artillery hold my Diana 56TH can put it in the same hole consistently. This Benjamin will not give me a group that I can put a dime over, it will have 3 great shots, all touching then a flyer, thats with the Diablos Exact, which are the best, they do not fit as tight as the crossman premier, but the croosmans sometimes have a real wide flyer, like 3 inches wide.I have contacted Pyramid twice with no reply.Took the shroud off the see if it was effecting the pellets. I like this rifle just cant get a good group wish it was as consistent as my 56TH, thinking of getting a Hatsan 135 to replace this. If this was priced 199.99 it would be a good value, I paid 299, and think it is overpriced at that due to accuracy issue. My RWS 48,56 and Marauder R best.
I really like the way it looks, feels, and shoots. This pellet gun comes with a nice a scope and the trigger is good and adjusts very nice. Smooth action all the way around. The white camo is real tree and looks very nice.
Things I Would Have ChangedI just need more time. ; )
What Others Should KnowBuy with confidence
Nothing but good to say about this gun. The trigger is a little tight like they say it is. I would recommend it.
