Description

The Walther Parrus air rifle is a powerful, single-shot breakbarrel air rifle with reliable magnum velocity. This spring-piston powered rifle is the next generation of the popular Terrus model, and it's steady cocking mechanism delivers muzzle energy of up to 22 foot pounds making it ideal for small game hunting. The .177 caliber version is capable of delivering pellets at up to 1300 feet per second, while the .22 caliber sends pellets at 1000 fps. The Parrus is equipped with a micro-adjustable open rear sight and a hooded TruGlo fiber optic front sight to help get you on target quickly. The 1/2" UNF threaded muzzle is popular with European shooters for its silenced recreational shooting. And adding to the list of features is the XT Trigger with its adjustable first-stage travel. The gun is ready for a scope with the 11mm dovetail rail, and it has a rubber recoil pad adding to its comfort. The attractive hardwood stock has subtle checkering for added grip. Right out of the box this powerful springer will catch your eye and offer hours of fun shooting.

Powerful and accurate, it is a very beautiful rifle, the barrel joint locks up like a bank vault. My rifle shoots Crosman Premier Hollow Point pellets the best. It also likes Benjamin Destroyer pellets. Both pellets give 23 to 24 FPE. It is devastating on small game, I shot a rabbit at about 20 yards and it literally smashed right through its skull.

Tighter quality control. The first two rifles that I got were from Field Supply, the first one had a crooked front sight and the second one had a grinding noise every time that I cocked the barrel and the cocking lever pin started to come out so both of those rifles had to go back and finally I ordered through Pyramyd Air on there 10 for 10 deal and finally got a good one.

The big push for this rifle is to use JSB 18.13 pellets, well my rifle hates them, they shoot like a shotgun, so when you go to buy pellets do not buy 3 tins with your extra free one for 4 tins of pellets, thinking that these are going to work in your rifle, because mine do not, the head size too small and it falls into the barrel. The Crosman Premier Dome Hollow Points fit snug and shoot straight and cost about $6.24 at Walmart. A much better deal than $19 for pellets that don't work.
This air rifle will take a little while to break in, it took me at least 500 pellets to finally getting super tight groups, but once achieved it is definitely worth it and I would definitely recommend this air rifle to a friend.
Hopefully Walther is cleaning up their quality control.

It appears that this great air rifle is being discontinued. Umarex USA is selling this dirt cheap at $150. I believe it's being phased out because of this. I have looked high and low for the synthetic stock version and I can see that Pyramyd Air and Airgun Depot do not have this version anymore. there's only a few left far as I can see and they are in the $300 + price range. Most likely it was the quality control issue that is getting this air rifle phased out. For some reason Walther never addressed the open site issue on the Parrus, with the rear sight being wobbly and not being able to be adjusted to the left or right far enough. Also almost all the Walther Parrus I hear of shoot high with open sights. Strangely enough mine did shoot very high in the beginning but now it is about right on with open sights. I think they were trying to compete with the Diana 350 Magnum and they very well could have done it if they would have had more quality open sights and a much better trigger.

Update with new chronograph results with the Hobby 11.9 grain pellets I am getting up to 964 FPS, 24.56 FPE. Crosman Premier Hollow Point 14.3 grain pellets are getting 891 FPS, 25.21 FPE. This is a beast of an air rifle and very accurate it also shoots h&n Barracuda and Barracuda Hunter Extreme pellets very well. I did have the 10 for 10 deal and I thought my rifle was underpowered because of the low chronograph numbers that were delivered to me. A rifle must be held level with a chronograph and use an LED light to get accurate numbers. I also want to share how the breach is not beveled, so I used a conical grinding stone and made it so the pellets fit much better and shoot a little bit more accurate also. I have a YouTube channel called (LoneWolfStrength AirWolfAirRifles) if you want to check out more on it. Once again this is an awesome air rifle once it is broke in. I don't think you'll be sorry if you get this.

Seemed to have good power and accuracy but didn't notice breech and barrel bent too the left till I mounted a scope and I had to dial it in all the way to the right till I could only go so far.

For it to be made in Germany its quality was disappointing. The rifling is just like my crosman summit ranger 22.cal air rifle. But the fit and finish were no better bluing is nothing to brag about I saw some nicks in the metal breech just a very poor job no better and even worse than some Chinese companies. So very disappointed. It can't hold a candle to my RWS Diana 350magnum 22.cal fit and finish are not even close and the T06 trigger is so so much better than the Walther parrus. Now I know why they are probably not making them anymore.

Don't waste your money on it. Go either to HW or RWS or even Benjamin or Crosman . They are better than the walther. Anyone say German's don't make junk they lied it depends on how much their companies care about their product and apparently walther does not.

I shy away from magnum springers and thought for a magnum springer the Terrus I already have is ACCURATE and I thought powerful enough! However, this big brother to the Terrus is even better though it is much longer and larger in piston chamber diameter. Cocking is long and easy, there is the sound of a huge spring being compressed until lock. Trigger is outstanding-light and crisp! The Beech Wood is actually darker and more grained than the Terrus I have. I am surprised such velocity and accuracy go together. I am using CP's 10.5gr. Target/Silhouette Heavy. I use the same pellets now in the FWB Sport as well. The Walther Parrus for the price is a steal--so is the Terrus!

Rear sight on my Parrus is useless--it is too loose and wiggles in all directions like a loose helicopter never able to land in the zone. I got those off right away (I read where others have had "accuracy problems" with their Parrus's and I think the problem is simply the rear sight) and put a Leupold 2.5-8X 32mm VARXIII; and ADDED another for WIDE field: Nikon Monarch 1.5-4.5X UCC 20mm. The gun shoots extremely well with BOTH scopes interchanging!

This gun is solidly built with essentially a lifetime warranty by Walther to the original owner--how can you go wrong with $250?

The Parrus be it in 22 or 177 is powerful and accurate rifle- accuracy depends of course on finding the right pellet. Ive had the Parrus in 22 for over a year and I just bought the 177 version with wood stock in 177. I have had luck in both as to finding the right pellet, the 22 shoots the CP 14.3 very well and the 177 is doing excellent with the CP 10.5 and the 7.9s Hollowpoints . Both rifles are super magnums built with German quality. The trigger is not a TO6 trigger like the Diana but its not a bad or cheap trigger, it gets smoother with use- it has an adjustment screw but Im not sure if it does much good. The truth is that both my Parrus triggers break a bit stiff but very precisely. On both rifles I can get groups of 3/8 inch at 20 yardas and hit 2x2 inch metal plates at 40 to 50 yards easily. Both rifles are hunting rifles and if you are not ready to do the exercise that it takes to cock these rifles do not buy them with the idea that they are for plinking.

I would like to find a video or review that explains how to disassemble and reassemble these rifles. They are not easy to work on as the Diana / RWS 350s. I had my Parrus 22 tuned by a professional and I had him put in a 135 -40 coil spring from Vortek- the rifle shoots superbly. I would have liked to do the job myself but as I said I havent found instructions or videos on this matter- so caveat on that point.

My Parrus 22 shoots the 14.3s at 939 FPS thats close to 30 foot pounds energy. I havent cronographed the 177 but it is also a powerhouse due to the fact that the both have a 130-42 coil spring.
Important : on both 177 and 22 Parrus rifles the open sights do not work well as in the Diana rifles. They both shoot very well with the CenterPoint 3-9x33 scopes and double mounts will work ok .

On my last comment I meant to say that hold sensitivity is something that affects accuracy and precision in a spring air rifle... Not sometimes, but always.

Rony Feb 09, 2019

I had the opportunity to chronograph the Parrus 177 wood stock model and it is shooting the CP 10.5 at 880 FPS averaging 18.47 FP energy and with the CP 7.9s it shot at an average of 1023 FPS for 18.36 FP. This rifle is also very stable, it has a point of balance lengthwise very easy to achieve and it is also very well balanced vertically. Rifles that are hard to balance in either of these two positions are known as hold sensitive, sometimes very bad when you are trying to get accuracy and precision from a spring air rifle be it metal or gas ram. The wood stock on the Parrus 177 is very solid definitely not cheap wood , and the styling is similar to the Minnelli stocks of the Diana / RWS . The polymer stock of my Parrus 22 is also very solid , but one has to be careful with the type of lubricant one puts on the blueing of the rifle because it can affect the finishing of the polymer and cause staining. Both rifles lock barrels like German locks due to fine tolerances.

This is a very powerful air rifle.

I could not check accuracy because I could not set in the rifle using two different scopes. A Hammers, and UTG would not adjust low enough to align with the barrel. Subsequent checking indicated the barrel, due to droop, was not aligned with the receiver. I sent the rifle back and got a full refund. I think I just got a bad rifle. Maybe Walther's quality control was/is not up to standards. I already owned a Walther .22 cal. Terrus and could not be more pleased. It is accurate and powerful. No problems with it.

The Parrus is a manly man rifle. Cocking takes some muscle. The benefit is plenty of excess power.

I installed RWS one piece droop compensator mount on my Terrus. Shoots great. I think this gun would shoot great too with some sort of droop compensator.

The Walther Parrus is extremely powerful in .22 cal.

Apparently quality control is lacking. I already have a Walther Terrus I like very much. I thought I would try it's big brother. The one I got could not be zeroed to any scope I had. I tried a Hammers, and UTG to no avail. Subsequent investigation showed the barrel, when locked, does not align with the receiver. It droops down slightly. This can be seen with the naked eye. As a result, none of my scopes could be adjusted to compensate this flaw. It seems to shoot OK like this, but I could not test the accuracy.

I have tried to have Pyramydair email a return shipping label as promised, with no results. I have called them, and filled out the online return information. This process was started a week and a half ago, and I have received nothing. I would really like to return this defective Walther Parrus air rifle asap. Other than this difficulty, Pyramydair has always been my go to vender for air rifle needs. I have never had a problem with them before.

grizz Nov 10, 2016

barrel droop is still pretty common in european guns. it is not really a problem though as they make droop compensating mounts for that very reason

Very powerful powerplant for a .22 cal air gun ..... it's up there with a .22 rimfire. For a powerful air rifle, I found it to be amazingly quiet. Had a nice comfortable feel, a great looking stock, and undetectable recoil. The weight is comfortable for use at a range or in the field.

Nothing that I can think of.

Use high quality pellets and this rifle will be an excellent performer for hunting and target shooting. This is the perfect all around .22 cal air rifle.

Overall build quality is excellent (except for barrel nut "painted aluminum" and mine would not unscrew). Have only shot with open sights so far, definitely more accurate than I am, and definitely a scope worthy rifle.

Barrel nut needs to be made of steel, (Pyramid Air "does not" have parts for these rifles! You have to contact Umarex USA).

This rifle is imported through (Umarex USA) they are difficult to get ahold of online, their contact number isn't toll free. My rifle came with an allen wrench included but I do not know what it is for. The instruction manual is lacking and doesn't show it or anything it would be used for.

deerflyguy Nov 14, 2016

I wouldn't worry too much about receiving a courtesy wrench along with the gun, especially since you obviously haven't had to use it, or you'd already know what it fits. I must have at least a hundred allen wrenches that came with guns, mounts, bases, and rings, which I keep in a tool box for those times when I need a wrench. I'm glad that I have them, and every time I need an allen wrench, I know that I have one in there somewhere that will fit my purpose. If all I had were one or two wrenches, I'd probably misplace them and not have them when I needed them. As for your particular allen wrench, there's not much that it could be used for. Coming to mind is perhaps to dismantle the stock from the barreled assembly (instead of a traditional screw); maybe for adjustment of either sight; maybe for trigger adjustment? Finally, maybe it got put in with the wrong gun at the factory?
