It shows the number of remaining shots. It blocks the bolt when it is empty, preventing blank shots.
What Others Should KnowIt is difficult to rotate its' cover 360 degrees so that it can be loaded. It was so hard to remove that I had to tap it out with a tool. I found that there are small ribs in the mag slot that positions the mag on its; stop pin, I finally found that I had to cut one out with a utility knife so that I could just push it in/out.
