Cold Steel AK-47 (S35VN), Ambidextrous, Manual

I have bought 4 of these in the past 20 years. Sheesh.

Just bought my first Cold Steel AK47 and truly like the knife. The Tri-Ad was a bit strong so I removed the spring and bent it by about 1/16" and now it only needs 2/3rds the pressure to make it work. Some guys move the spring forward but I found the blade hits the spring which is not good. The blade now has about a 1/8th movement when in the case but that's not very much for such a heavy knife. I'm aware this action will void the warranty but this is a very well built solid knife so I don't foresee any problems but use the knife for awhile before you modify the spring. Don't forget to add tape to blade while working on it :)

This knife has been with me before my daughter, who is 23. This was my edc for at least 15 of those years, and used several times daily. My only complaint is the thumb stud fell off after all those years of wear and tear. I should have noticed the loose screw, but with the awesome quality of this knife, I didn't notice. It does not compromise the function for me as I usually flick it with the aid of gravity to open it, and long ago mastered one handed closing of this knife.

Purchased this knife a little over a month ago and so far it has stood up to the wear and tear I have put it through very well. The folding mechanism on mine was a bit tough to open with one hand but after a quick oil job it was nice and smooth again.

I never wrote a review for this knife but I purchased one about 9 years ago and haven't needed one since, every work knife I had before this one broke, but this knife gets used everyday and has held up for years!

I've had this for over a year and a half. What hooked me on getting it was the great ergos and pocket open. It has a fantastically grippy and comfortable handle. The pocket open is great. This knife weighs nothing and the triad lock is simply the greatest of all locks. You will have to destroy the knife before the lock will fail. The thumb disk s too far out and high and makes thumb flicking it open hard to do reliably and repeatably. I don't have small hands, they are average sized. You can front flick, back flick, & slow open with the disk though. It's just that the most common way to open it is the worst way to open it. This knife has no drop shut action. It is not a fidget knife. The other problem with this knife is the s35vn steel. I've tried sharpening to 20 degrees, 23 degrees and 25 degrees but it doesn't matter what I use. The edge rolls really easy and I can only use this knife a few times before I have to sharpen it again. The steel is not as good (esp.at the price) as it should be. Yes, it gets wicked sharp- at 20 degrees I can circumcise a gnat. The grind is great like that. But if I circumcise 3 gnats in a row I have to sharpen again. At 25 degrees, it's almost just as bad. Good occasional EDC knife, but useless at work.

Tough,sharp and the best edc out there. Go buy one!

Owner of Cold Steel gave me this knife as a gift for some work I did for him. I was a Spyderco guy for years and this knife seemed too heavy but I lost my SpyderCo overboard so I used this one... that was 12 years ago I think. I have worn the black off the tip. This knife is a lifetime type knife. The auto open pocket grab is tricky and the knife is wicked sharp so be careful till you draw it a few times. When you grab it in an emergency and it is suddenly open in your hand, well, that's a magic trick. Now that the spring is worn in I use a hand sweep circle to flick mine open. Tighten up those frame screws every three years or so and keep her clean after a trip to the beach or camping. I use gun oil on the hinge. Rugged knife for rugged people.

Bought mine 15 years ago... good lord these got expensive, but if the quality is the same, worth it.
