Wes Crawford, the custom knife maker, has been a friend of Cold Steel for years, so we were happy to collaborate with him on the creation of an inexpensive version of one of his pricey custom flippers. The result was our new Crawford Model 1. Strongly resembling Wess custom knife, the blade features a wide saber grind and a strong, sharp point with plenty of belly for cutting and slashing. Its made from Japanese 4034 Stainless and is hollow ground to a thin, razor edge that will cut at the slightest touch. And, because Wess flipper is integrated into the tang, it can be opened lightning fast! The handle of the Crawford Model 1 mimics Wess originals profile and silhouette but is made from a strong (yet economical), glass reinforced nylon that includes traction rubber inlays, and a low-profile pocket clip. To keep your fingers safe from potential harm, we have equipped the Crawford 1 with our leaf spring lock, and a (patent pending) secondary safety mechanism that, when engaged is extremely resistant to shock and impact.

Item feeds good in the hand as a writing utensil. It pinches holes on boxes with ease. For me, it feels very long as a writting marker. If it was about a ½" (half an inch) shorter, would be good for me. Yes, I recommend.
I got this a while ago and got to be honest it was a little bigger than I expected. I do sort of wish it had an assisted open, but after opening a few times I got a method pretty fast. It came way sharper than most knives I have ever bought. Impressed with it right out of the box. It is not EDC yet, but may become it. The clip is a little tight for the way I carry my knives, but easily fixed.
Good for utility knife uses and, according to my escrima instructor, for “defensive self defense” which he defines as fighting when you don’t have enough blade length. He much prefers it over my similarly sized Air Lite, be caused the blade is broader and because he feels flippers let us maintain a better pinch grip on the handle during deployment than thumb studs (in order of preference he prefers shake-out, snag open, flipper, thumb studs no detent, then thumb studs with detent). In terms of steel he just asks that it take an edge 5Cr and up, while in terms of handle he doesn’t care about comfort for whittling he just wants “no sliding and finger guard). Yup, the Crawford 1 is my bargain checklist folder.

I purchased this knife a few days ago and had I known this is one of the BEST pocket knives I've ever had the privilege to own (and I have a big collection) I definitely would have gotten A FEW a long time ago. The Crawford 1 is so easy to deploy, the blade is thick and sharp with some really nice engineering. The sure lock works perfect and the handle is right for any size hand. I would suggest you get one NOW before they are all gone. I plan on buying a couple more myself.
