Famous for its time in military use, and infamous for its use by gangsters during the prohibition era, the M1A1 has a storied history in the United States. Commonly referred to as a "Tommy gun" and "Chicago Typewriter", the real steel version saw U.S. Military service from 1938-1971.  The .177 caliber steel BB version features the same iconic looks and functionality as the firearm.

A 30 round stick magazine houses two 12 gram CO2 cartridges that provide enough power to sling steel BBs at up to 435 fps, as well as give an enjoyable recoil impulse thanks to the blowback action. The rifle can be operated in semi-auto or full-auto, sending a full magazine of BBs downrange in a matter of a few seconds.

Well known for producing some of the most enjoyable replica airguns on the market, Umarex brings yet another historically significant firearm to life in airgun form! Era correct faux wood furniture, sights, and sling mounts make the M1A1 a replica that even the most avid collectors will be impressed by!

Things I liked:

I really liked the "authentic look and weight".

Things I would have changed:

Th e magazine was a pain to load until I made a little "tool" .

What others should know:

What everyone should know is that this gun is really just a piece of overpriced JUNK by Umarex. Umarex customer reps are very rude and unhelpful. It is my theory that this gun produces so much "torque" on full auto that it will literally bend the inner barrel, (which is just a cheap aluminum tube). The aluminum inner barrel is only supported by the breech seal and a small plastic carrier grommet at the end of the barrel, the rest is just "hanging in the air inside the outer barrel". I am in the process of repairing my Thompson. First, I had to straighten my inner barrel. Then I put rubber support grommets all along the barrel inside the outer barrel, then I filled all of the "open space" with FlexSeal. I haven't finished it yet, but I know that when I fire it on semi or full auto the inner barrel is not going to move or bend. I have been trying for quite a long time to get an inner barrel made out of stainless steel. That would solve a lot of problems. Very inaccurate ! Barrel moveme

Things I liked:

Very accurate insofar as details. Beautiful recreation. Fun to shoot

Things I would have changed:

Loading mags is a pain. They should have a stop similar to the ones used on the M1 Carbine.

Things I liked:

This gun looks and feels like the real one . It handles well and shoots accurately. Nice piece for my collection All is good !

Things I would have changed:

I have short arms and therefore my reach is not as I would like. Meaning that the shoulder stock is a bit long but I can ask. to that .

What others should know:

It reached my expectations and very happy with the performance it could if possible, hold a bit more BBs LOL

  • Gregory from USA asked:

What is the cyclic rate of fire? The MP40 is 500 and it is extremely slow compared to my M1A1. It sounds like a MG42!

    • Kelan from USA answered:

      unknown

  • swamprocker57 from USA asked:

Can you use the .177 Smart Shot copper plated lead bbs in the M1A1?

    • Lawrence from USA asked:

My gun arrived dry on the internals. Can the Legends Umarex be taken down by pushing on the rear button like the Cybergun We airsoft model for cleaning. Is disassembly the same? see this video of procedure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4_AXhui8G8 Has any one slid off the upper part to lube the gun?

      • Dennis from USA answered:

I tried. The switch that allows you to go from safe to fire will not go back to safe. I found the release button on the back, pressed it and the upper part "released" but will not allow me to slide the top portion off.. This may or may not be related to the faulty switch. I did not get the service contract. Pyramid was cordial, gave me Umarex Tech number. I called, maybe caught the guy on a bad day-"The gun cannot be fixed, we won't accept it back for repairs, you have to buy a new one." I said thanks, and he hung up. My mistake not getting the service agreement, wish Pyramid would take back. Hope this helps.
