It's hard to find as many survival features in an item as one would in the Flint. The Flint packs enough survival and defensive components to get you through the night or away from danger. In a tool the size of a pencil, the Flint has a built-in fire starter, steel wool tinder compartment, carbide-tipped glass breaker, and safety whistle. Weighing in at less than an ounce and measuring 4.3-inches long, it's small enough to be carried on a lanyard, in a pocket, or in a pack. Great little tool! After purchasing one and checking it out, I immediately order 2 more. Honestly I need a few more! So if your thinking about it , buy it .
Small enough to fit just about anywhere, and puts out a good fat spark. I had a little trouble with opening the steel wool compartment because of arthrits in my hands, but once it was opened the first time, it wasnt an issue. This was purchased as a gift, but i will again be buying another. Would be very handy to keep in a vehicle for the window breaker alone.

I have several sog knives and several sog multitools, I like all of them. This is my only sog disappointment. Needs to be at least an inch longer, have a better attachment ring and maybe put an ink pen in it.
If your looking for a whistle and a glass breaking pen then this is exactly what you need. As far as the striker for fire starter it really isn’t worth the money. Very small and not effective at all. I would recommend if you are looking for a fire stone striker, then go elsewhere.

Loved it, put it on my key ring and lost it. Your key ring attachment is barely attached to the flint
The description says “The Flint packs enough survival and defensive components to get you through the night or away from danger.” I wouldn’t count on it. I have a Tool Logic Signal Fire, so when I saw the SOG Flint, I figured it would be better. Not so much. 1) the whistle is weak at best 2) the ferro rod doesn’t put out much of a spark 3) the amount of steel wool would burn out before you could get a fire started 4) I would seriously hesitate using the glass breaker because I’m concerned my hand would go through the glass as I punched through, however as a defensive weapon I think it would be useful. The plus side is it’s a solid item. When all is said and done, it’s not worth the money which is disappointing because SOG puts out great, quality items, but this fell short.

Used for 3-season backcountry work and doubles as a discreet less-than-lethal protection device for those trained in hand-to-hand combat techniques. Highly recommended for those who travel solo or the field professional looking for a versatile and lightweight piece of gear. Its only weakness is it's not recommended for 4-season/winter professionals as the metal will stick to your mouth using the whistle and any form of perspiration if worn next to skin. Zero trouble with the D-ring when worn around your neck with P-cord (which is where a whistle is supposed to be worn - not on a set of keys). Thoughtful design, SOG! Looking forward to similar devices in the future - been a satisfied customer for years!
