These used to be made in South Africa, but are now made in China. The quality seems the same, but the appearance changed slightly. The South Africa version has the Cold Steel logo & origin country stamped into the metal around the center hole, while the Chinese version has the Cold Steel logo painted around the center hole.

Oh boy! This is a BAD MAMMA-JAMMA, Bubba! Great weight and balance. The size is tremendous! Like a circular saw blade but way more easy to control and stick. You can rifle this mother at your target with all you got... if you got the fortitude to remove it after, because it goes DEEP! I'm pretty sure you could take down a coyote with this... it hits with POWER. I have hucked mine from 15-20 meters out and stuck it about 1¾" deep in my axe target, composed of three 2x6" boards, with a 99% rate of sticking. Very satisfying throwing experience which needs to be enjoyed by all steel-chucking enthusiasts! This would make your favorite mall ninja ruin his very best Shô Kosugi signature ninja-suit! It's a blast! This puts the much smaller, less burly, and more expensive Honshu brand "large" shuriken and spiral shuriken to shame, as the extreme value, quality, and design of the BattleStar are superior by light-years... now, could we get some sorta "BattlePouch" with MOLLE gear hook ups to attach to an assault pack load out?
First the design and the look of these are amazing. They have a very nice weight to them without being just large slabs of steel. The texture is smooth. They have a very good penetration ability. I have thrown against a tree stump also two by six pieces of wood and they will get about one inch into the wood. The only negative are the tips on the points on a couple of the stars have bent. THey are very thin at the tips so if they should strike a very hard surface the tips have curled. Easy to fix with a little hammering. I blame myself more than the design or manufacturing I believe the bending happened when they did not stick into the wood and fell to the concrete floor.
