We have long admired the timeless good looks and pure functional design of the American Rifleman's Knife. This rare blade was originally issued in extremely limited numbers, and has the distinction of being the first knife officially designed for, and purchased by, the U.S. Army back in 1849. Our blade takes inspiration from an antique in the private collection of our company President Lynn C Thompson, and while our blade is not an exact replica, it features many of the design nuances that make this knife such a classic! It's big, stout spear point blade is stiff enough to oppose even much larger weapons, making it an ideal complimentary knife to carry and use alongside a saber or cutlass. Plus, its beefy 12" blade and solid guard make a more than capable stand-alone blade in its own right! It's easy to see why it was chosen as a back-up blade for our nation's riflemen. The Cold Steel 1849 Rifleman's Knife is hand forged from 1085 High Carbon steel, with a solid brass guard and beautiful Rosewood handle scales that encapsulate the sturdy full tang. Solid made knife, decent edge, everything is tight and right. The sheath appears to be well made. I bought this for my son and he loves it. He now uses if for goofy stuff like chopping veggies and cheese.
I’m happy with this knife. Has a nice weight to it. It’s a beautifuldisplay knife that certainly seems fully functional. Most display knives are usually unusable. The blade came pretty sharp. I was expecting it to not be sharp based on the reviews but it seems cold steel listened. My only complaint is it came with a bunch of sticky stuff on the blade. I don’t know if it was because of the freezing temperatures or if some tape got on it. Kinda left the blade smudged. But I really don’t care about that. I bought this knife solely to have a fighting knife that I will most likely never use and only sharpen and polish to death haha.
Very pleased with the workmanship. I highly recommend it.

I just received this knife it's certainly the least sharp knife I've ever had from cold steel as a new knife. However it's a very solid blade and made pretty well and has a good balance. Also the scabbard has a rather curious design which for a "combat" blade doesn't make a lot of practical sense

It’s big and sturdy as expected. It has a good weight to it. It didn’t come very sharp but sharpening I can do myself. Overall it’s a very good knife and everything is nice and tight. Just remember to oil the blade with a blade oil or mineral oil to prevent rusting and keep it away from moisture.

This knife is beautiful and appears well made. The only critique I have is the blade is not stamped with the type of steel it is.
