Learn more about the SIG Sauer x-Five ASP in Tom Gaylord's Airgun Academy Blog.

Sig Sauer continues to improve on the design of pellet pistols for some of their most celebrated firearms. As part of this new standard for CO2 air pistols, SIG Sauer has created a 20rd belt fed CO2 version of the 226 X-Five ASP Pistol.

The 20rd magazine is where the X-Five ASP really shines through. This design allows for 20 semi-auto shots be to be taken before reloading while other pellet pistols use small capacity rotary mags that must be reloaded after every 6-8 shots. Once you load up your magazine and the CO2, you can shoot your pellets downrange at speeds up to 430 fps to shred paper targets and blast down soda cans. While designed for pellet shooting, you can also load up BBs. For even faster-paced shooting sessions, you can further customize the gun with lasers or flashlights mounted to its Weaver/Picatinny accessory rail.

With this many shots, this pistol is great for hours of plinking fun and a welcome addition for owners of the real steel SIG 226. If you like CO2 replicas with more shooting and less reloading, this is the air pistol you've been waiting for!

Things I liked:

The mag capacity.. with Co2 it starts to drop off after one mag. But give it a minute and it comes right back. Its a very quiet pistol. I love the ability to adjust sights completely.. very rare in a Co2 pistol. And it works good.. nice clicks for each adjustment. I can keep it accurate out to 40ft.. after that, not so much.

Things I would have changed:

The mag does have a tendency to jam.. Better design maybe..

What others should know:

If you load the belt in the mag with lithium grease it works fine, and just stays smooth.. after about 2 months I had to work some more into the belt.. no jams after that.

Things I liked:

Solid metal, heavy and feels very similar to the Sig X-Five. The CO2 cartridge loading system is the best I've seen and very easy to load perfectly every time. Adjustable sights (wish all pellet pistols had it). Not a squirrel killer, but a great backyard plinker.

Things I would have changed:

1. The 20-round pellet magazine has 2 side holes near the top that make it difficult the rotate the chain to load it, they should just remove those two access holes and it would be better. 2. Once your CO2 gets down a bit (especially if you fire fast and the CO2 gets cold), the blowback action will intermittently fail to reset the trigger. 3. The safety is really stiff and hard to engage with your thumb, but is easy enough to release. Pelgun oil might fix this. 4. After firing 20 rounds, if I check the magazine, there will be a few stray intermittent rounds that didn't fire, but luckily haven't jammed in the barrel 5. I would prefer a version without the blowback and DAO to save CO2. I shoot 3 mags (60 rounds) and swap the CO2 6. I would like a decocker as there is no way to drop the hammer manually with CO2 in the gun unless the blowback fails as described in #2

What others should know:

This is a plinker and its accurate at 20 yards for shooting tin cans or small airgun targets. I love the feel and the weight, versus cheaper co2 guns. For the money, its worth it. I also recommend using Alloy pellets to get higher FPS. As others will warn you, ONLY use Wadcutter/flat head ammo. Pointed/rounded ammo is problematic in this gun. I'm using H&N Match Green Pellets (TIN) with good results. The trigger rotates the mag and then fires, it DOES NOT feel like a regular trigger so as a trainer, it's limited in that respect. I recommend an Air Venturi pellet pen which helps speed up loading the magazine. Overall, its pretty much what I expected and I'm happy with my purchase.

Things I liked:

Great looks. Very detailed and authentic weight. I purchased this gun primarily because of the adjustable sights. The sights look and function very well. The CO2 loading system is a nice addition and is very easy to use.

Things I would have changed:

The trigger is the worst I have ever experienced in decades of hand-gunning. It is a two-stage process with the first stage used to rotate the belt magazine. This stage is predictable but very clunky. The second stage is very difficult to pull which results in poor accuracy. I bench tested this gun with 9 different high-quality pellets and could not get better than 2.5-3" groups at 21 feet. I think this is probably the result of the terrible trigger.

What others should know:

Make sure to apply non-petroleum lubrication to the magazines (silicone) and use a probe to seat each pellet in the magazine belt. A slick is felt when the pellet is properly seated. However, if seated too much, a jam will result. Both of these things seem to go a long way toward eliminating jams with the magazine. Jams also are caused when too many shots are attempted and the CO2 gas is low resulting in a pellet stuck in the barrel. I think the X5 is a nice pistol but wish it was more accurate. I own 5 centerfire Sigs and have come to expect a lot from this company. The X5 just did not deliver. It is probably OK for tin-can busting at close range where accuracy is less important.

  • Chad from USA asked:

My mag keeps jamming, should I use gun oil or another lubricant on the belt? Should I just reign for a different model? Got 3, one for me, my fiance do we can practice together and one for my son to be mother in law to teach her bc she wanted a real firearm. What's the best way to load from those who have had success? Thanks in advance!

    • Matt from USA asked:

I purchased 1 of these about 6 months ago (silver variant), was firing both daisy powerline premium and crossman CO2 cartiridges. When I started, I had left over Sig Sauer wadcutters from my P320 which I had a catastrophic issue with and replaced with the x5 and though I got the occasional jam, I liked the x5, the large 20 shot clip without the 8 round and flip I had with my now non functioning 226 (gave it to the ms. when I got P320, lesson learned lol) but I quickly ran out of those and I am not sure if the issue is the pellets as I have tried gamo wadcutters, precision crossman wadcutters and regular and every other round I have which is quite the variety, though all bought frmo Bass proshop, IF, and that is a big IF, I get 1 round down range, the X5 instantly jams, no matter what, usually requires a wooden skewer to push the round back into the clip from the business end to even eject the clip after. Unfortuntely, I moved and had to throw away my original box so returning to the mfg is out, I think, but has anyone else experienced this problem or know a solution? I do manage a shot off here and there so the internals seem to be ok, is it just the ammo? Do I need Sig specific as the other brands are too large?? ANY help is appreciated
