The BSA Lightning XL SE was first introduced in 2012. BSA invented the modern spring-piston gun, but they've never stopped to rest on their laurels. They continue to innovate, relying heavily on the expertise of world-renowned airgun expert John Bowkett.

You'll find lots of practical uses for the Lightning XL SE...hunting, pest elimination, spinners, paper targets and plinking. The integral silencer helps reduce the report normally discharged by springers of equal power, which will be helpful when hunting larger numbers of critters or if your airgun range is in your backyard in an urban area.

BSA spring-piston air rifle models are put through a rigorous 10,000-shot test and then stripped down to see how they held up. Anything that doesn't last is improved so it will. Not until the spring gun passes with flying colors in all areas does it get approved for production and can wear the BSA name. Don't you wish every airgun manufacturer did that?

Things I liked: From the first glance what a little gem when shouldering the rifle, what balance! So easy to hold steady I have shot other great guns like air arms tx200 so heavy and I understand this is good for target shooting but so is the BSA the trigger is perfect predictable .. wonder through the target and squeeze the shot off one after another right one bull’s-eye I love this little gun with a big punch ! I got the lighting in 177cal as you can shoot 16 grain Eunjin pellets giving you the foot pounds of a 22 pellet with better aero or hyper velocity with alloy pellets breaking the sound barrier The accuracy at distance is very surprising

Things I would have changed: not for me to say these guys know spring dynamics

What others should know: The trigger is not the same as the early BSA with the Allen head screw on the break away there is a small screw adjusting a spring i wound it out what would have been to far by old standards but the trigger came good so dont be afraid to wind it out

  • Joe from USA asked:

How quiet is this gun? The description said "integral silencer helps reduce the report ", but the Loudness is rated as a 3 which is NOT backyard friendly.

    • Tyler from USA:

I would definitely say it is backyard friendly, but that is subjective as backyards and neighbors differ. There isn't a whole lot of noise other than the report from the action itself.

  • Jared from USA asked:

Will the .22 GRT Version no longer be available here?

    • Ernest from USA asked:

Joe Have you learned where it's made? I have a Lightning XL SE GRT. The barrel is hard stamped(or engraved) UK...BUT... no where does it read Made In------. So where is the proof on the barrel that it is made in the UK?

      • Tyler from USA:

That hard stamping is the proof that it is made in the UK. The rest of the gun is assembled in Spain.
