The Air Arms Hunter Carbine is a short version of the renowned TX200. The HC shares the standard TX200 Mk III internals. Externally, it looks the same as previous models but is a shorter, carbine version which, according to Air Arms, was a popular customer request.

"When customers asked for a shorter, carbine version of the TX 200, we gave them what they wanted," the manufacturer writes on its website. "The result was the TX200 HC - Hunter Carbine, which rapidly became a best seller."

Some highlights of this shorter-model TX200 include a Lothar Walther barrel, built-in moderator, adjustable two-stage trigger, handsome Minelli stock available in right- and left-hand variations, a Monte Carlo cheek piece and a ventilated, rubber butt pad. Because this is a carbine, the cocking lever is shorter, increasing the cocking effort.

Although it's shorter in length than the TX200, the HC is anything but short on performance. "Everything that makes the TX200 the best in its class is contained in the carbine-length HC, including those 'factory tuned' internal components, the elegant stock design and, of course, that impeccable metalwork," Air Arms writes. "It's all there, ready to produce the performance that took the TX200 to World Championship level."

If you're the kind of serious airgunner who demands the highest performance, unwavering consistency, reliability and pinpoint accuracy for which Air Arms is internationally known, the TX200 HC - Hunter Carbine might be the ideal springer air rifle for you.

Things I liked:

Everything about this gun, fun to shoot, accurate etc.

Things I would have changed:

Nothing

What others should know:

Cocking is a little tough but nothing a man can not handle. I have a little cocking device that makes cocking sooo much easier if you are shooting a lot of pellets. Just take about a foot or more of thin wall 1 inch PVC and put a block about 6 inches in it so when you slip it over the under lever you have lengthened the cocker about the same as the regular TX 200. By the way this cocking device also works on my ProSport. I usually shoot about 100 pellets and do not tire a bit.

Things I liked:

What can you say, it's a TX200. It lives up to the hype. It shoots soooo smooth out of the box. The accuracy is great. Loaded with H&N hornets this thing becomes small game's worst nightmare. The carbine size is much nicer for woods walking as well. Compared to my HW97k's and my RWS 460, the TX200 HC's trigger is better and the gun is way more ergonomic of a fit. This gun is also way easier to disassemble than either. This is almost underlever perfection.

Things I would have changed:

Air Arms please spend the 5 cents on two rubber washers to keep the cocking rod from rattling. For a "hunting carbine" and it's reputation this should not be an issue. I also wish the cocking lever had a retention device like some other underlevers. You have to basically pinch it, to release it from the ball detent.

What others should know:

If you want an "elegant weapon for a much more civilized time", The TX200 HC is it. It is worth every penny. I've had the pleasure of shooting and or owning about every underlever imaginable, none of them shoot like the TX200 out of the box. It looks great as well.

Things I liked:

Mine's a .22 lefty walnut HC. Excellent accuracy and not pellet picky. Lots of power. Nice oil finished wood. Lovely high polish deep blue. Mechanically smooth and solid. Great trigger, Mine has no twang. It's easy to work on. The compact length is shorter than most other full power springers. The built in silencer baffles help mute the bark, but it's still pretty loud due to the high power. The heavy weight and and thick stock style make for a good bench rifle.

Things I would have changed:

I am not a fan of the noisey, cumbersome, anti-beartrap mechanism- A lower power option would be easier to cock, have a milder shot cycle and a quieter report.

What others should know:

I installed an Air Rifle Headquarters "slightly softer" spring which eased the cocking effort and harshness without much power loss - dropped from 720 to 700 fps with H&N FTT. The oil finish was thin out of the box but I rubbed in a few more coats of BLO and it looks good. Despite the "Hunter Carbine" name, it is not my 1st choice for hunting as it's too heavy and too pretty for dragging through the brush. There are other springers that shoot as well as the TX, but what makes the TX so special is that it's just so darned beautiful!

can I add sides for TX200

    • Paul from USA answered:

Do you mean open sights? It could probably be done by a gun smith but i think it would be expensive.

  • joe from USA asked:

    Where is this manufactured?

    • Mark from USA answered:

Air Arms are made in the UK.

  • Carlos from USA asked:

What is the diameter of the barrel? Like the outer tube. Thanks.

The shroud OD is 0.740 "
