These blades are made out of 65Mn steel with black anti rust matte finish. Each Cold Steel machete comes with a good utility edge which, with just a little work, can be made hair shaving sharp. The tough, Polypropylene handles of our machetes are designed to provide a comfortable secure grip, and they are rugged enough to resist chipping, cracking or breaking, so they last practically forever. This is the heaviest machete that Cold Steel makes (with the exception of the Two Handed model), providing the maximum work with every swing. The blade widens toward the tip for maximum cutting and chopping power.

I picked mine up around 9 years ago for around $12 bucks on clearance from an online seller, and the thing is still chopping tough as ever after years of occasional use. I don’t live in a rural area, I pull it out about 20 times a year to split kindling, and hack off limbs, there are no chips or even nicks in the blade, and I’ve only had to sharpen it about 8 times. I never torture tested it, only because if I did mess it up I would have to buy a new one. But I have never gone easy on it either. They have made some slight changes to handle since then, putting a flare at the end of the handle, nice upgrade, but it’s always felt good in my hand. For how wide the blade is, it still feels like a well balanced piece and has a very natural feel while swinging it. It’s by far one of my favorite blades, and now that I’ve tracked down the manufacturer, I'm going to get one for both of my sons. Mine came with a sheath, but I think you can buy a sheath separately from cold steel. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you. I wash it after every use with soap and water, mineral oil, and for periods of non use, add a light coat of vaseline, keeps the rust off, and the coating has held up exceptionally well. Highly, highly recommend this bad hunk of steel!

Like pushing a Liberal through butter. Smallest of swings gives you that all night stamina to service all the bushes in your yard. Watch out tho, that easy backswing will definitely not give your power wrist any resistance or work out.
