KOBUN PLAIN EDGE / 9-7/8" OVERALL / 5.5" BLADE / 3.5MM THICK / AUS8A STEEL / 4-3/8" KRAY-EX HANDLE / SECURE-EX SHEATH /
The Cold Steel Kobun is a lightweight knife that takes its name from the Japanese underworld, where the word "Kobun" is sometimes used as an indicator of rank that suggests the word "soldier"in, or one who takes orders from his "Oyabun" or boss. It's a fitting name for a knife like the Kobun, which was effectively designed to be "a good soldier"in. Proven to be incredibly popular with the Military, where it's prized for its light weight and discreet profile as much as its durability and cutting potential. The Kobun features Cold Steels iconic reinforced "American Tanto" point, making it highly resistant to bending or breaking because it is reinforced by the full thickness of the blade's spine (which runs almost to the very tip of the blade). Despite its thin profile, the Kobun's deeply checkered Kray-Ex handle is designed to offer maximum grip and is contoured to resist turning or shifting in the hand.

10 of 20 Cold Steel Kobun Plain Edge Reviews

I have carried this knife for years. It’s light, tough, balanced and has a great grip. It’s also the perfect size for edc. I compare most edc knives to this knife. For me it’s the perfect all round defence tool.

Just got the kobun. The blade is very nice and sharp. The handle is thin. Doesn't fit in my hand well. I also own a Leatherneck-tanto and Leatherneck-tanto mini. The handles on the Leathernecks are outstanding. This handle is subpar. The sheaths on the leathernecks engage with a distinctive click. Although the sheath on the kobun seems to be of the same material. There is not a distinctive click when you remove the kobun or reinsert it.

Good knife thin and sharp. Low price I like it over the more premium model. Poor packaging as the knife broke out of the packaging during shipping, but the knife works fine. I didn't experience any detrimental issue with the sheath. it holds good will like to have a more noticeable engagement with the sheath.

Very comfortable in the hand, and like all Cold Steel knives, incredibly sharp right from the factory.

Sharp knife , very strong blade, not to pricey for the quality of knife this is

Rusted a little bit the 1st day. I used it on the boat, but I cleaned it up very sharp.

Kobun needs sharpening it is very very very dull. I do not understand why it so dull.it will not cut a peice of paper, not in the slightest

I like the knife. Its slim profile makes it useful for concealed carry while still fitting well in my hands. If you're familiar with Cold Steel quality, this knife stands up to its usual quality. On the other hand, the sheath is standard and not particularly adjustable, as I'd prefer. From my experience with CS products, this is nothing new. After all, they are a knife-making company, not a sheath-making company. Once I get a sheath that I can cant adequately, I'll be adding this as part of my EDC.

Best Tanto EVER to join my collection in the past year

10+ years still going strong. This type steel is very hard and resists sharpening. When shape stays sharpe. Arrived with a perfectly symmetrical edge. In spite of your legendary edge crafting and raft of mystical sharpeners do use a guide. This steel is some of the hardest to sharpen. Over sharpen one side and you'll grind down half the knife trying to rebalance your edge. Challenging to sharpen. Perfect hand to hand knife for the Marines or Army. It's so light you'll likely forget it's on! Sheath is rugged and hard to draw without a solid tug. Best carried inverse where the single eye on the sheath tip can be anchored. That or find some kydex. When my handle wore out I heated the pommel burning off the old stuff. Using an induction heater melted some 2mm Dyneema plastic line in for a new grip. Not the best obviously for field dressing but you could drive it through solid oak extract it and it would be none the worse for wear. Kydex sheath would make this knife the ultimate EDC.
