10 of 40 Diana Two Forty Reviews
I own a Gamo Wildcat whisper in 22 cal which I soon discovered may have been "too much" rifle for my intended purpose, which was backyard plinking, to about 30-40 feet. Being somewhat new to airgunning, and having a bit of a tight budget due to 2 young children who are growing and eating at rapid speeds, I settled on the Diana Two Forty and am glad I did! You'll read in other comments that the gun is extremely well made (it is), that the blueing is decent (it is), that the cocking mechanism is nearly effortless (it is) and that trigger, while not a Rekord, is still plenty adequate in the price range (it very much is). My personal opinion is: despite it being produced in China, the Germans still have their fingerprints all over this rifle in terms of quality, and Diana has not only maintained it's reputation, but knocked it out of the park with a well-built, respectable, quality rifle that I have no doubt will provide many years of enjoyment.
Things I Would Have ChangedTruthfully, nothing. It does what it was designed to do very well and has actually renewed my appreciation for the .177 caliber class. I like the fact that the safety engages after reloading the net round, some people may find that annoying, but it really does help slow the whole thing down a bit.
What Others Should KnowI very much prefer an open-sight/ Instinctive-shooting experience as opposed to using a scope. I understand that there are times when the occasion calls for a scope, but my passion in the hobby lies in seeing how far you can get out by using the "gun's eyes". The open sights on this are where I feel the gun truly shines. I own two of these, and they both shot slightly to the left, so my experience with them has needed me to adjust slightly, but once I got the gun squared away it was off to the races and has been an amazing journey ever since. I could not be more pleased with the Diana Two Forty, or with PA for the order follow-through. My hope is that they will continue to carry this gun because I see great potential in having these "out in the wild" Pick up a copy for yourself, my guess is that you will not be disappointed.
beautiful gun real wood and steel , easy to cock , light and handy , decent accuracy out to 20 -25 yds once you find the pellet it likes
Things I Would Have Changedtrigger is tough , not adjustable , plastic
What Others Should Knowi have tried about 30 different pellets so far it likes jsb simply wadcutters and daisy pointed , both group around an inch for 5 shots at 20 yds , most others were 2 to 4 inches with some over 6
First off, this is a Diana "Two Forty" and not the German made 240 Classic. That being said, it's still an overall nice plinking rifle, it's easy to cock, has mid-range power and is quite smooth for a springer, which is great for just casual plinking. Accuracy is very good (I used both Crosman Pointed and H&N Excite Plinking wadcutters). Trigger is ok, nothing stellar to be sure, but better than the plastic Gamo triggers in my opinion. The automatic safety can be annoying at times, but it's probably not a bad thing to have for youth shooters, especially since there isn't a beartrap device (which does allow you to de-cock the rifle, which I like). The finish is nice as well, the bluing is well done and the stock it quite nice with good grain, the inner cutting is a bit rough, but it's ok in this price point.
Things I Would Have ChangedPyramid Air should really update the listing and photos to make it clear that it's the Two Forty. Would also be nice if there were a "Two Forty Deluxe" version fitted with the T05 copied trigger that is used by the Ruger Air Hawk, as I suspect they are made by the same factory, I doubt it would happen... but a guy can dream.
What Others Should KnowIt may not be a German made Diana, but all things considered, along with the $99.99-119.99 price point, I'm not complaining.
Love the stock and smoothness of the action. Great value for the price.
Things I Would Have ChangedSeems to be somewhat pellet picky so far.
Accurate, nice sights, good quality wood used for stock, 11mm rail sharp and long enough, acceptable cocking pressure, OK trigger, weight good for a break barrel, easy to handle, good cheek weld, great price for a Diana, two-year warranty, reasonably quiet shooter. Some qualifiers, please read on ....
Things I Would Have ChangedProvide the trigger described in the manual and advertised. Very important to some of us. I have a love/hate (60-40) feeling on the automatic safety.
What Others Should KnowThe trigger is OK. It is not the trigger advertised or listed in the manual. It is plain rounded metal with no safety like on the Chaser and Airbug. It is smooth with a subtle two-stage engagement and proper take-up, hardly noticeable. The sights are good, but the accuracy picked up a couple of level with a red dot installed. The BSA red dot I used only added 8 ounces to the gun's weight and is worth it. The cheek weld was perfect for me with the red dot. Cocking seemed a bit heavier than 20 pounds, but acceptable for teenagers and adults, not children. I would not pay $150 for this rifle, but $99 is a very good price. I'm happy I bought it all things considered. Pyramyd made it even better with a $10 Christmas bonus.
Beauty, brand, price, overall construction, cocking, sights
Things I Would Have ChangedCould use more power, even for target shooting. I would say this is a 10-20 yard gun with 8 grain pellets.
What Others Should KnowAccuracy was good but gun shot way left out of the box. I had to adjust sights way right to compensate. I ended up returning the gun. Something is faulty here.
I agree with the many reviews that state the quality of the wood and metal to be really nice for this price level. The sights are also nice. Accuracy I found to be consistent with those who were impressed with groups by the Two-Forty. Day one at ten yards I managed a 5 shot group the size of a quarter. Standing, leaning against a post, 105 degrees in the shade. All with old eyes that have to choose which image is clearer, the target or the sights. That was with H&N Field Target Trophy, 8.64grain pellets that came with in the bundle. If fall ever gets here I will test some wadcutters closer to 7.5 grains. I like the perfect holes in the paper.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing. I feel like the money was well spent. I'm happy I was able to find it in stock at Pyramid Air.
What Others Should KnowI have an R7. The Two-Forty is not an R7. If you are looking for a behind the office door pest gun, this is the one. If you need a rifle to teach your children firearm safety and shooting basics, this is the one. If you are looking for a rifle that shoots one hole groups consistently, this is not the one. THAT much fun is going to cost you!
This gun is delightful. I use it for indoor shooting. I'm getting 485 fps with an 8.2 grain wadcutter - perfect for indoors. I had the RWS 34 at nearly twice the price and the quality of this gun is almost indiscernible. I'm getting better groupings than with my TR5 and the trigger is smoother as well. I put a 4x scope this gun but the iron sights were quite good for making consistent shots too. While its big brother needed a slanted scope mount to account for barrel droop, this one did not. It's easy to cock and a joy to shoot. It's much less work to shoot than a multi-pump pneumatic, which is what I like about break barrels, and much easier to load pellets into than the Daisy 880 class of multi pumps. Also, at the relatively low power level it does not smack you so hard as the big break barrels do when it shoots.
Things I Would Have ChangedI'm not a big guy and I find, like with the RWS 34, the distance from the pistol grip to the trigger is pretty far for small hands. It works for me but it's may not for some youth. The Air Venturi TR5 would be better for a small person, but I do find that gun quite a bit more difficult to operate.
What Others Should KnowSo far this gun likes the Meisterkugeln 8.2 grain wadcutters.
Easy, easy cocking; accurate to a fare-the-well; lightweight; beautiful fit and finish; not picky about pellets; lots of power; in short, the ideal air gun.

Nice wood stock, easy to cock, good sights, good price.
Things I Would Have ChangedTrigger is on the skinny side, a wider trigger would help a lot. put some thread locker on the sight screws, mine came loose, so check yours.
What Others Should KnowAccuracy is fair, gun is definitely pellet picky, I tried over 15 different pellet types and brands and my gun much preferred a heavier pellet. As the pellet weight went up so did the accuracy. At 30 feet with 9.1 grain norma pellets you could cover it with a dime, with 7.3 grain falcon pellets you needed a 50 cent piece to cover it. I prefer using a lighter pellet for a gun in this velocity class, so not too thrilled about that. I was getting 576 fps with the 7.3gr pellet and 496 with the 9.1gr. If you don't want to pay the price for an HW-30 or R7 this is a decent alternative. Would recommend, just find the pellet it likes.
