The Air Arms Hunter Carbine is a short version of the renowned TX200. The HC shares the standard TX200 Mk III internals. Externally, it looks the same as previous models but is a shorter, carbine version which, according to Air Arms, was a popular customer request.

"When customers asked for a shorter, carbine version of the TX 200, we gave them what they wanted," the manufacturer writes on its website. "The result was the TX200 HC - Hunter Carbine, which rapidly became a best seller."

Some highlights of this shorter-model TX200 include a Lothar Walther barrel, built-in moderator, adjustable two-stage trigger, handsome Minelli stock available in right- and left-hand variations, a Monte Carlo cheek piece and a ventilated, rubber butt pad. Because this is a carbine, the cocking lever is shorter, increasing the cocking effort.

Although it's shorter in length than the TX200, the HC is anything but short on performance. "Everything that makes the TX200 the best in its class is contained in the carbine-length HC, including those 'factory tuned' internal components, the elegant stock design and, of course, that impeccable metalwork," Air Arms writes. "It's all there, ready to produce the performance that took the TX200 to World Championship level."

If you're the kind of serious airgunner who demands the highest performance, unwavering consistency, reliability and pinpoint accuracy for which Air Arms is internationally known, the TX200 HC - Hunter Carbine might be the ideal springer air rifle for you.

Things I liked: Prior to purchasing the TX200HC .22 I owned (still do) the full length TX200 MKIII in .177. I have enjoyed shooting this gun. Within the past year or so I have transitioned to shooting mostly in the off-hand mode and not from the bench. However, that can get tiring over time and after about 15 shots I wish both me and the gun were ambidextrous. I decided to look into the HC model as being more off-hand friendly. After much dithering I decided on the .22 version in Walnut right hand. I find the gun to be much better balanced for off-hand shooting. My version measures 38 inches long and weighs in at 8.4lbs without scope and mounts. This compact size and relative light weight is one of the guns greatest assets. To maintain the light weight I installed a Burris Timberline Scope (4.5-14x32). This scope has crystal clear glass, it is compact and light, springer rated and with a usable high magnification. It has one deficit - a longer than normal eye relief. The firing cycle is less stressed

Things I would have changed: The rattling cocking lever and gap between the stock and load port could be rectified.

What others should know: The firing cycle is less stressed than the .177 MkIII more of a thump with a gentler shove to the shoulder than the sharp snap’ I have been used to. The noise is not objectionable either – being a .22 it is subjectively quieter than the .177 HC. I use a BKL one piece drooper mount (260D). By the way this is one of the new Lothar Walther barrel guns with the blued gun barrel to prevent transportation corrosion. I have not done a thorough pellet test as yet. The gun likes the JSB 18.13 gr pellets and is ok with the Air Arms 16 grains. However, it does really well with the Predator lead free 11.75 grains. I have not tested the gun out to 50 yards. But at approx. 32 yards the predators are spectacular with minimal drop. The one drawback is the high cost of these pellets. No velocity results as I am sans chrony right now, but the Predators seem much faster than the lead options. All told this is a wonderful package light enough for my intended task of off-hand plinking.. I imagine this gun

Things I liked: Accuracy, stock, size

Things I would have changed: The blueing lately on Air Arms TX200 is not what it used to be. I have had to return a few due to cloudy areas/spots. Quality control is lacking on the blueing line in the factory. Maybe they are trying to build too fast to keep up with demand. Their blueing was one of their claims to fame.

Things I liked: Fit and finish excellent. Awesome precision out to 45 - 50 yards. Stock is quite comfortable and nicely carved.

Things I would have changed: The breech for pellet insertion is tight and wears on my thumb. I have a Beeman pellet tool that I have to use with certain pellets.

What others should know: Cocking effort is stiff but manageable. Accuracy and consistent precision requires a decent scope and a good shooting rest.

  • Carlos from USA asked:

What is the diameter of the barrel? Like the outer tube. Thanks.

    • Mark from USA:

The shroud OD is 0.740 "

  • Stephen from Canada asked:

Has anybody tried mounting open sights on this rifle?

    • Mark from USA:

It would require a custom front sight and drilling /tapping the shroud.

  • Hector from USA asked:

Is the front of the hunter carbine threaded for the silencer adaptor like on the full sized rifle?

    • Paul from USA:

The barrel is fully shrouded. There is no need for a silencer.

    • Mark from USA:

      Yes
