3 of 16 Crosman .177 Cal Steel Breech Reviews
The sight is the main reason to upgrade, I purchased it with the gun so it was already install when I got it, what else can I say steel or plastic with a sight that's not dove tailed and isn't easy to adjust, you choose.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe sight wouldn't adjust down enough to get centered at 25 to 30 feet the distance I am shooting indoors with 5 pumps. It shoots about 1-1/2" high at the lowest setting. (fixed see my review on the gun)
What Others Should KnowWhen I first sighted it in I noticed that the bolt handle was angled to the rear. I have the 22 version as well so I thought the angle may have been changed on newer models. On closer inspection the bolt handle was cross threaded into the bolt. I thought I might have to send it back but it turned out that I was able to dress the threads and correctly install the handle.
I've always liked my Crosman 177 pistol. I use it for plinking and getting rid of critters who like our garden as much as we do. Wasn't sure if the steel breech would make much difference and not sure it does. The new sight that comes with the kit is fantastic. Much better sight picture. Fully adjustable!
Things I Would Have ChangedInstructions aren't the best. I got a better set from Crosman. It tells you to loosen the barrel screw to lift the barrel up and out. My model doesn't have a barrel screw.
What Others Should KnowKind of tricky re-installing the valve (don't remember the part name) but when it goes in it works great. I love the gun!

Look and feel much improved over plastic version. Positive click adjustments on upgrade sight. 3/8" dovetail for future optical upgrades. Factory (well, Pyramid) installation is seamless. Pyramid sends the stock parts that were changed out without being asked.
Things I Would Have ChangedBolt Handle constantly unscrews under normal use. Torquing it (5-6 ft-lbs; it's only a small diameter thread) didn't help. Loctite, maybe? I hope the threads don't tear out! The upgraded bolt handle is heavier than the stock version. This makes the bolt tend to move forward and get in the way of loading if you have the muzzle pointed even a little down. Could Pyramid maybe install the stock bolt handle on the upgrade breech during the changeout process? Included MIM sight does not lower enough to put Point Of Impact on Point Of Aim?!? Mine hits about 1.5" high at 7 meters, with the rear sight bottomed out. White dots on rear MIM sight makes for a poor sight picture under indoor conditions. (5 seconds with a Sharpie marker fixes that, though)
What Others Should KnowWhat others have said about loading difficulties is true. A little dexterity and some practice are needed to get around the issue.
My method:
Point muzzle slightly up with bolt open. (so gravity keeps bolt open)
Drop pellet into rear of loading groove.
Slide pellet against bolt nose if needed.
Gently holding pellet against bolt with finger, point the muzzle vertically down.
Release pellet to drop into breech. The bolt will follow under gravity influence.
Ensure bolt is locked; pistol is ready to fire.
(You can retract the bolt to verify correct orientation of the pellet, but i rarely (never?) find problems if I wait until the pistol was fully vertical to release.)
