M1 Carbine Wood Stock

Makes this gun a pleasure to handle. Looks immensely better then the plastic stock.

Discontinue the plastic stock model

The stock needed some minor inleting. Enlarge the mortise slightly for the rear action lug, relieve the magazine receiver radius directly in front of the action. The mortise was holding the action too high where the stock engages the action at the magazine radius cut out area. The trigger/magazine mortise was a couple mm too small in length. The wood needed removal at the front radius area of the stock. The action was leveraged on this radius bending the barrel/action when the screws where all tightened. This caused the barrel/action to deflect binding the bolt. It works great after removing a couple mm of wood to give the action more room.

This wood stock totally transformed the rifle into a truly nice gun. Darn near indistinguishable from a powder burner. The stock looks great, but the best part is how the rifle feels. It feels real now. Thanks to Springfield Armory and Pyramid Air for taking this gun seriously and offering this hardwood stock.

A tax expensive, definitely worth it

I like the wooden stock look didn't offer wood stock when I bought the gun. Marks in wood at bottom of stock looks like Finnish didn't take

The fit on mine was a little tight I did a little sanding on the inside to make it fit and wood a little smoother

Fantastic product. Completely changed the feel of the gun. Plastic stock was awful, cheap. The new wood stock makes it feel like my actual M1 carbine. Very nice!!

In my opinion, this stocks fit and finish was ok. My stock had some weird rough spots were it wasn't sanded properly before it was stained, especially on the edge where the bolt moves back and forth. I will probably end up refinishing it at some point to make it look a little better. But other than that it's a nice walnut stock.

I bought the plastic-stocked M1 because I thought the plastic stock looked better in both shape and finish, and because it was $100 cheaper than the wood-stocked one. After handling and shooting the gun for a while, I decided I loved everything about it except the smooth, slick, plastic-y feel of the stock. So I ordered the accessory wood stock and installed it. What a difference in feel! The gun is now a little heavier and closer to "real" weight, and the balance is much better (doesn't feel so light in the back end). It doesn't look as good now IMHO, but it feels and handles MUCH better! At some point I might do some reshaping of the wood stock and refinish it, but for now I'm having too much fun just shooting the thing.

The wood stock comes with wood handguard and replacement screws for the wood, but no instructions. It wasn't difficult to figure out, though, and I got the changeover done in about an hour. Had to sand down the front edge of the handguard to get it on, it was just a little too tight but that was no big deal; only required removal of a couple thousands of an inch of wood with a hobby file. (It could have probably been done with a fingernail emery board if that's all I'd had to use.) If I could change anything, I'd make the nose of the comb area shaped more like the plastic stock, and come up with a finish that looked less like brown paint, but that's okay, I can work with this. The important thing to me is that the whole gun now FEELS exactly like a "real" M1 carbine, which is what I was looking for.

The rifle field-strips exactly like a real M1 carbine, except for a large Philips-head screw on the right side of the fore-end, which will be obvious when you take the handguard off. The wood stock kit includes a replacement wood screw for this screw, which should be fairly obvious. You don't need to worry about springs or other little parts flying out when you take the action out of the stock. As I mentioned above, be prepared to shave down the front edge of the handguard a little to get it on. (Might not be necessary on yours but it was on mine.) I do NOT regret buying the plastic-stocked gun first and then adding the wood stock. This way I have have BOTH stocks--the good-looking one and the good-feeling one--for about $20 LESS than the wood-stocked one alone would have cost. I absolutely love this little rifle!
