The Crosman Shockwave NP QuietFire with scope is a quieter version of the Shockwave NP that has a shrouded barrel that reduces noise. It retains the features of the previous model, the Nitro Piston powerplant that gives shooters the advantage of maintaining performance at lower temperatures while being lighter, quieter, and having less recoil than a traditional spring-powered gun. The Nitro Piston also has less vibration and greater accuracy, exhibits greater longevity, and can be left cocked longer since there's no spring to damage.

The Shockwave NP QuietFire is an accurate breakbarrel air rifle with 2-stage adjustable trigger that's good for hunting or backyard plinking. It comes with a fixed front sight and fully-adjustable rear fiber optic sight, and also includes an 11mm dovetail optics rail for the included 4x32mm scope or other optics of your choice. The ambidextrous all-weather synthetic stock has a textured grip and forearm for performance under all conditions, and the rubber buttpad helps yield a consistent hold.

The Crosman Shockwave NP QuietFire with scope is a supremely budget-friendly rifle that you can keep ready for small-game hunting or pest control, and it's also fun for plinking. Crosman is one of the most trusted names in airguns, and they've put together a quality package that's a step above what most airgunners expect to find at the entry level. It's tough to find a better performance to value ratio at this price point, especially with a scope included, so get this air rifle today at Pyramyd Air.

Things I liked:

I haven't had an air gun since my Crosman 760 in the 80s. However, I just moved and inherited an infestation of squirrels, and there are three different species of these buggers on my property (and in my house), not to mention deer mice and groundhogs. I looked into air guns and while I would have loved to drop money on an Edgun Leshiy or a similar gem, I wasn't enamored with the complexities of PCP, though I do like how quiet they are. That left something 1/3 of the price, maybe an underlever for fixed barrel accuracy, like a Weihrauch, Beeman, or RWS. In the COVID era, feeling the financial crush of these times, I kept moving the price range down. That moved me into break barrels. Something like the SIG ASP would be great, but I felt it was too loud. Finally I ended up with this Crosman Shockwave as it was cheap and fairly quiet. I'd rather not have a made in China gun, but here it is. So far so good. 90% of my shooting is inside of 40 yards, and for that it's accurate enough.

Things I would have changed:

Should NOT be made in the People's Republic of China. Metal elements on sight adjusters. Better trigger, as I feel most misses come from the heavy trigger, which causes pulling to one side. The cocking effort is good and the integrated baffle stays put, which is better than the little piece of plastic on the end of the Umarex Impact, which I sent right back to Pyramyd and they did an easy swap for this rifle (Thanks guys!). The sights are not as good as on the Umarex, and it offers a lot of left-right slop. I put Birchwood Casey orange paint on it, but it is what it is at this price point. I put a UTG Bug Buster scope on, but ended up sticking with open sights. Squirrels are incredibly tenacious and resilient. While I had several head or lethal body shots, I have also had as many misses, or as many shots they walked away from. For that reason I'm moving my ammo to JSB Ultra Shock Heavy Diablo 25.39gr and JSB Jumbo Beast Diablo 33.96gr. I now believe foot pounds of energy is the key.

What others should know:

I've had this rifle for 6 months and put Predator Polymag Shorts 15.89gr, Crosman Premier hollow point 14.3gr, H&N Terminator 16.36gr, and JSB Jumbo Heavy Diablo 18.13gr through it. They all shoot well. I have not put this through a chrony, but it hits with authority. For instance, If I hit mud from a 15-20 foot elevation, the mud jumps and there is a good size hole. It thwacks solid objects like fences pretty good, and goes through regular objects used for plinking. The nitro piston is a plus and it is fairly quiet, thought it is still in the medium loudness category. Without jumping into PCP, I'd love to get a similar gun in the low loudness category (Any suggestions? Some have said the Benjamin Trail NP XL is really quiet). Overall, this is a good, cheap-o varmint gun. It is no family heirloom, but on the plus side it doesn't need to be babied and is easily replaced. That said, I'd rather have any of the Walthers or SIGs or Wiehrauchs in a similar configuration. Maybe someday . . .

Things I liked:

Well , this particular Crosman .177 caliber is definitely quieter than my friends .177 cal...which I shall not name. I really like the the fixed sights on the rifle in case I do not want to use the scope. Which I replaced with my old Weaver off my Marlin Glenfield .22 rifle. Minor adjustments to the sights out of the box at 35 yds. and I like the two stage adjustable trigger. I am looking forward to shooting with my grandchildren and small game hunting with it.

Things I would have changed:

I would have liked to see more efficient sound deadening for squirrel hunting especially but small game hunting in general.

What others should know:

For the money this pellet rifle is hard to beat. And Crosman is an old (over 90 years) company whose been focused on air powered guns for the whole time and are very reputable.

Is this an improved model of the summit ranger?

    • Mark from USA answered:

Crosman produces a lot of very similar model guns. You can look at this as an improved Summit ranger.
