Description
Heralded by firearms collectors, enthusiasts and historians as one of the best rifles ever made, the ubiquitous Mauser Model K98 is probably most commonly recognized as the standard firearm of the German Army in both world wars. But Germany was far from the only country that outfitted its military with this reliable, battle-proven workhorse. More than 30 nations used it or one of its variations over the years, with the total number of K98s produced estimated around 102 million. From Argentina to Yemen, the K98 has seen service with armies all over the world.
Thanks to the skilled gunsmiths at Ense, Germany-based Diana, who have already recreated it as a spring-piston air rifle, you can now own a pre-charged pneumatic version of the venerable bolt-action rifle. Outfitted with a real hardwood stock, rifled steel barrel, metal sights and authentic, bolt-action operation, this compressed-air powered Mauser clone is a premium, high-quality replica firearm anyone who appreciates such a historically significant gun would love to get a hold of.
Weighing in at 6.6 lbs, this K98 replica has nearly the heft and feel of the real McCoy. It features similarly placed controls and the action works like that of a firearm. Whether you’re a collector who owns the real-steel deal and would rather not shoot it, an airgun aficionado who simply has to have the latest and greatest air rifles on the market or are simply looking for an accurate, reliable shooter for plinking, pesting or taking small game, this could be the perfect PCP for you.

8 of 8 Diana Mauser K98 Reviews
this rifle is ligh and easy to handle. plenty of power for target shooting. good fit and finish. iron sights are fine for casual plinking. whisper quiet. single shot tray is great.
Things I Would Have Changedlarger air cylinder. trunks out of power after 20 shots. magazines are expensive.
What Others Should Knowbuy an air compressor or work on your abs because pumping this gun up is a workout.
I received mine a few days ago. What an absolutely beautiful replica. Sure not everything is 100% spot on. But this is a very close replica to the K98. Out of all my air rifles, this is now my absolute favorite. Just something about this gun. I am shooting the HN 21gr slugs and getting plenty of power and accuracy at 25 yards using the open sights. I plan on taking this groundhog hunting on the farm this year because I personally believe this will take them at that 25 yard range. Once I get this out hunting I will update my review or post another review. If you love WW2 guns this is a must have!
I like the way gun shoots. I like the sights. I like how easy it is to pump up. Don't need a compressor. Found a nice scope. Have to single load ammo.
Things I Would Have ChangedI would have made a five round 22 cal magazine. Original K98 rifles held five rounds. Snipers used no speed loader. A five round magazine may have fit under the scope.
What Others Should KnowLoading base for single shot is not available. Extra magazines are not available. The front sight is threaded and appears to be adjustable but requires a tool that is not available. As good as this rifle is the things that I might need aren't available through Pyramyd Air. Should not have bought this rifle.
The Diana K98 PCP is one sweet looking rifle! The price per performance is reasonable. The small 100cc reservoir makes for short charging sessions with a hand pump. I'm getting 15-20 real good shots (pellet dependent) off of a 2900 psi charge in .22 caliber with a high muzzle energy of 32 FPE, low of 25 FPE, and an average muzzle energy of around 28 FPE using the JSB 18.13 grain Exact Jumbo Heavies . This is magnum performance for a magnum gas ram rifle and is exactly what I was looking for in a reasonably priced PCP.
Things I Would Have ChangedMake the trigger guard, barrel bands, and cleaning rod facade out of metal. Especially true for the barrel band that also serves as the front end holder for a sling. The trigger second stage let off is heavy. I don't have the equipment to measure it, but wouldn't be surprised to learn it's in the 4 - 5 lb area as it came out of the box. The manual states that to decrease it, the adjustment screw needs to be turned clockwise. When I tried to adjust it, it was already bottomed out... Lastly, unbeknownst to me the cocking handle fell out of the bolt assembly. Very unlucky that it chose to do that instead of when I was actually cocking the gun I didn't notice it had fallen out until the the next day when I went to shoot it again. I searched and searched and couldn't find it. My wife saved me by actually finding it after I had mentioned what happened. lol Make sure the allen screw at the back of the bolt assembly is TIGHT! A little blue Loctite would be a GOOD idea!
What Others Should KnowThe Diana K98 PCP has become my favorite back yard plinker. The muzzle report is quiet due to the barrel shroud and like so many modern PCP's the low report creates the illusion that the gun isn't hitting that hard. Untrue! At the peak of the power bell curve the 18.13 grain JSB's are being launched at 890 FT/SEC... Plenty fast enough! I can fire and recharge the little 100cc reservoir all afternoon as each hand pumping session is short.
nice looking rifle
Things I Would Have Changedwould make rear site adjustable for windage, would make pressure gauge larger, guage is hard to read , only goes to 3000bar
What Others Should Knownice looking, powerful, but seeing a fixed rear site and tiny pressure guage makes me question the quality
Accuracy (with scope). Just fun to shoot. Will get 24 (2 mags in .177) shots per fill. Smooth bolt action for sure.
Things I Would Have ChangedAbsolutely crappy rear sight. No windage adjustment. It can be reworked or possibly replaced
What Others Should KnowI really like this little shooter. Have ordered a WWII looking fixed 4x scope for it. Will try to x-out the rear sight with a traditional metal one with windage adjustment. Its a keeper.
Quality look and feel. Just plain fun to shoot. Accurate at 25 yards, hole on hole capable even with my eyes at that distance. Shoots exactly 24 .177 pellets (two mags) before needing a fill. Trigger is adjustable but I like it factory setting. Smooooooth bolt action. Diana must have made sure that the Chinese followed their specs perfectly. Never a misfeed over the 200 or so pellets fired so far. Easy to breakdown until you get to the sight mount. Grrrrr
Things I Would Have ChangedHoly crap! the barely adjustable rear sight is just ridiculous. On an airgun that is otherwise flawless, there's just no excuse. I Googled some old Diana steel sights that they could have remanufactured for the K 98, kept the look of an original K 98, and had a proper windage and elevation adjustment. I have to take a red dot from my Shoot and See target and place it 3 inches right and three inches down from the bull, to group 3 inches high and 3 inches left. Its six inches off mark at 25 yards! I know with a scope the K 98 would shoot spot on...but I wanted this for my "iron sight close in snake gun." Tried to remove the iron sight and x-out with my Diana 34 rear sight, but I didn't have the time to figure out how to remove the sight assembly from the mounting bracket.
What Others Should KnowSo, am I sending it back even though Annie Oakley couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with it out of the box?? Heck no! I believe the rear sight is something I can eventually replace, or I could mount it with something that resembles a WW II German scope. In any event, its a bit pricier than the Stormrider, but has all the quality that you would expect of a gun in this price range or slihtly above. Bottom line: It's a keeper that I look forward to shooting. When I fix the rear sight I know this will be in my favorites category. Hard Air Magazine online has a nice intro to the K 98 PCP.

The rifle ie solid. The bolt comes back feeling heavy and cocks with authority, much like a real military rifle. The rifle has good accuracy at 25 yards with the supplied open iron sights. Add a 4X scope and the accuracy is excellent. I am not saying that the accuracy is Olympic grade, but it is very good. In several instances I was able to put five shots into an area the size of a nickel with a 4X scope @ 25 yards. My model is a .22 shooting JSB 13.8g Diablo heavy. Crosman premier 14.7g .22 HP group just as well and are still cheap compared to other brands.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe rifle needs a larger air reservoir or one that will take greater pressure. The air chamber pressure falls rather quickly limiting the number of magazines that can be fed through before a refill is needed. The open iron sights should be all metal. The ramp is black plastic. There is no windage adjustment, which is a pain unless you add a scope, red dot or some other type of sight. The pull from the hand hold on the stock to the trigger is a bit long. A person with a small hand might have problems stretching across that distance. The trigger pull is Ok, but could be better. The first stage is easily felt, the second stage is positive with a consistent break point. I would like a lighter trigger pull, but the factory trigger is pretty good, but not what I would call target grade.
What Others Should KnowThe stock is all wood with a metal plate, and the stock looks great. Some of the other parts are plastic to add to the authentic look, but all they do is add to the look so plastic is fine. The magazine is well made, heavy, and operates easily. Very dependable feeding. I think the noise level is slightly below medium and back yard friendly in most cases. You can actually put a sling on this rifle using the hole in the stock. The sling will hang from the side. I have been shooting this rifle for almost one year and no malfunctions. The rifle takes 11mm scope mounts, the small ones. The amount of rail for scope mounting is small. The magazine sticks up above the receiver a long way, so you need to mount the scope high or use a sighting device that doesn’t go over the magazine area.
